Who doesn't watch the X factor?

Not having a go at those who do but just looking for like minded individuals! I started a new job recently and we were out for lunch the other day and I realised I was only person round the table that doesn't watch it! Maybe I am the only person in Britain who doesn't watch it? (apart from DH!)

No. TV for the brain dead.

Likewise Strictly Come Dancing, things where people compete to be in musicals or to be models, celeb ice skating, celebs in jungles, etc.

Monadami · 04/11/2009 19:58

I only ever watch the audition episodes because it can be hilarious. Apart from that I don't bother with the rest of it, as I really don't give a flying fig who wins.

hannahsaunt · 04/11/2009 20:00

We have never watched any of them. Only thing that we sat through was Graham Norton and his Nancies. Otherwise we tend to be doing other things at that time of evening and the TV just isn't on.

bebesequin · 04/11/2009 20:01

No just don't get x factor - do sky plus strictly though and watch it alone during the week usually when ironing

missorinoco · 04/11/2009 20:01

I don't watch it. HAve been in a similar position to the OP on a hen weekend, where I was the only non-watcher of Strictly.

Phew...That's great there are another 56 people who feel how I do - I was beginning to wonder...now can you please come and work with me?? Like Majormajor I think my new collagues reckon I'm weird/snobbish... not worried enough to start watching though!

I watched with friends recently. What mindless, shite drivel. WHY watch karaoke like this? It's so utterly devoid of interest or meaning. Baffling.

Fleecy · 04/11/2009 22:41

We don't watch it either - and I do watch a lot of crap so not at all snobby. Just not any of the so-called talent shows.

Love it when I find kindred spirits! Everyone I know seems to watch.

MrsWeasley · 04/11/2009 22:43

We dont watch it either. Too many of that type of prog on the TV.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 04/11/2009 22:43

We have never watched it, I cannot bear that type of humiliation programme, I cannot stand Simon Cowell or any other air heads, it seems so stupid and mindless they all seem such nobodies.

But.. we do watch Strictly - they actually do learn something. Plus the professionals whether dancers or judges actually have talent.

BellaBonJovi · 04/11/2009 22:47

Nope, never - although made teeny exception for certain US rock band's appearance last Sunday

Thankfully they were on quite close to the start

Frozentoes · 04/11/2009 22:52

Christ no.

stillenacht · 04/11/2009 22:55

Totally agree with everyone here. It is mindless exploitative rubbish.

YanknCock · 04/11/2009 22:58

QI and Mock the Week repeats here as well. Can't stand reality competition shows of any sort. Now that I'm home in the daytime, I'm also mystified as to why there is such a large following for Deal or No Deal. My mom forced me to sit through it as she's visiting and wanted to see if it was the same as the U.S. version. If I ran that show, it would be over in five minutes. Pick the stupid box, stop dithering and fawning over each other, quit telling sob stories and your sentimental reasoning for picking numbers.

LilyBolero · 04/11/2009 22:59

I watch Strictly - totally different basis imo, as it is not taking vulnerable people, waving a possible record contract in front of them and then kicking them down. They're celebs, they know the score, they're not basing their lives' hopes on the witterings of someone like Simon Cowell.

And the dancing is fab! Especially when the pro dancers do stuff on their own.

stillenacht · 04/11/2009 23:02

We love Strictly in this house too (we are a house full of musicians).

SmallSCREAMCap · 04/11/2009 23:07

I don't like it. It's mainly because I just cannot see how about 8 people each singing a song can be strung out into about 4 hours of programmes over the course of a weekend.

I do like Big Brother and Strictly, so I'm not a reality TV snob.

I did enjoy Pop Idol back in the day (and I was much too old for it even then).

When I do catch a bit of X Factor now, I feel like I'm being hit repeatedly in the face with a vibrating glow-stick. There are so many fast cuts, big lights, CGI logos zipping around and choppy shots of people in front of wind machines - makes me feel dizzy.

KittyBigglesworth · 04/11/2009 23:47

bluejeans, you're not alone, we don't watch the X Factor nor Strictly. I seem to catch what's going on without watching it anyway because there are so many references to it throughout the week, there's no escape! I don't really like any type of enforced hysteria. Harry Hill has a certain type of silliness that appeals though!

skihorse · 05/11/2009 13:38

I've never seen a single episode of X-Factor nor Strictly. I really object to X-factor from the pov that we (the paying, voting public) are choosing acts to make Cowell etc. rich - seems barmy to me.

Icanneverthinkofagoodname · 05/11/2009 14:05

I try to avoid watching it whenever possible as it is truly awful. None of them seem to have any talent. Sadly when I am forced to visit my PIL's on a Saturday they make us sit through it. Dont understand why its acceptable to invite people to dinner then make them watch dreadful TV all night.
When I am in on a Saturday night, tend to watch dvds from Lovefilm. Especially loved Life on Mars box sets recently. Best TV in ages. Agree with earlier comment that the Restaurant is the only show like this I would watch and thats because I love Raymond Blanc on it (hate the other judges tho).

sfxmum · 05/11/2009 14:13

no X factor I actually like music

no reality tv apart from the odd episode of Grand Designs but switch off when they are ridiculously poncy (which means watch very few)
