I have a feeling this is going to be awful actually, they are focusing on lone parents

Just starting on C4 now.

But i do agree in the way that she is saying people are picky. My friend wouldnt go for a job which was the minimum wage cos she said it was beneath her!! I worked minimum wage for years to support my family.

And how can the banks allow someone who is on benefits to rack up 75k on credit cards and thats not even including her catalogues!

My dd is poorly a lot and companies give carers leave if your child is ill

expatinscotland · 20/08/2009 21:31

NOT.A.WORD.ABOUT.THE.NON-RESIDENT.PARENT'S.CONTRIBUTION.

Shaming and condescending to people for being lone parents.

What a load of bullshit.

5inthebed · 20/08/2009 21:31

I would like to bet she doesn't have any kids. She is very unsympathetic.

BitOfFun · 20/08/2009 21:32

Tough love? Consistent harrassment more like.

bethoo · 20/08/2009 21:32

work it love, pretend you care!

blissa · 20/08/2009 21:32

Do you think she paid them to say that?!

stubbyfingers · 20/08/2009 21:32

patronising bitch

Katz · 20/08/2009 21:33

why the hell were they singing her praises, she's utter rubbish, she is patronising and not exactly helping, her suggestions aren't coming across as veyr helpful.

NervousNutty · 20/08/2009 21:33

Not all companies give carers leave, especially ones where you are working for minimum wage.

I would work for minimum wage gladly, but I cannot be 100% flexible, which is one of the first things you are asked.

SparklyGothKat · 20/08/2009 21:33

i would have slapped her if I had been there.. nasty bitch

BitOfFun · 20/08/2009 21:34

There is something deeply sinister about this woman and her maniacal zeal, coupled with a complete refusal to acknowledge basic realities.

expatinscotland · 20/08/2009 21:35

I'd bitch slap her and I'm not a lone parent on benefits.

Lulubee · 20/08/2009 21:35

Pauline from Royston Vasey JobCentre!! She is!!

expatinscotland · 20/08/2009 21:36

Around here, a lot of the min. wage jobs also want you to have a full UK driving license and your own transport.

And of course, be available for all shifts.

lisad123wantsherquoteinDM · 20/08/2009 21:36

im really lucky, my work are great with me and if kids/dh is sick and im fairly flexible with my work if they need me to be BUT not being big headed, Im good at my job and they know it

5inthebed · 20/08/2009 21:37

I'm pretty sure by law you are allowed 13 weeks unpaid leave for a minor under 8. I know my last job had this policy.

chocolatefudgebrownie · 20/08/2009 21:38

THAT woman should be in a horror movie!

radiohelen · 20/08/2009 21:38

I quite like the fact that she's told it like it is, for all that she is clearly a hateful individual and I'd slap her if she tried her tactics on me.
I'm judging here - and I've been a cleaner and worked as a "barista" to pay my way - but there is no "real" reason for these women not to get a job.

Unless of course they have stinky breath and piercings.....

NervousNutty · 20/08/2009 21:38

Yeah, I remember ringing a hotel once to see if they had any vacancies for room attendant. The woman said, 'well you need to be able to drive'. I said 'no thats ok, i live within walking distance'.

She said 'yes but we have a very long driveway, so you must be able to drive'

WTF

NervousNutty · 20/08/2009 21:39

Hiw many lone parents, or any parent infact, could afford unpaid leave if their child is ill.

expatinscotland · 20/08/2009 21:40

'but there is no "real" reason for these women not to get a job.'

I've been a cleaner, too. And a waitress. A fruit-picker. Just about every low-income job going but care home work.

And there are some very real reasons why these women have serious barriers to work.

The No. 1 is that many are unskilled and the type of jobs they can get are going to cause major transport and childcare issues.

5inthebed · 20/08/2009 21:42

NervousNetty, that is bonkers! Do they not allow the staff to be seen by the guests?

beanieb · 20/08/2009 21:43

"I have a feeling this is going to be awful actually, they are focusing on lone parents"

well I am loving it. I think this woman is fantastic.

ByThePowerOfGreyskull · 20/08/2009 21:43

I don't think it is all easy, nor do I think absent parents should be let off the hook, however, I think some of this has raised interesting points.

stubbyfingers · 20/08/2009 21:44

AAAAAAAAAAGGGGGHHHHHH!!!!!!!

Somebody, please slap her! Absolutely vile.
