Bit of a tv evening for me tonight! Anyone else watching?

I find it difficult to understand all you posters who have said you would give up your own bedroom so that two boys don't have to share a room ?

That is martyrdom of the highest order

So one of 'em was a "light sleeper" ? He would soon learn to sleep through if given enough chance

Let me tell you, I would be a "light sleeper" if I was sleeping on a sofa

I would not give up my bed for the feckin' Queen of England

oneopinionatedmother · 06/08/2009 22:16

the definition the government uses as poverty is dumb : 2/3 of national average?
this would mesn if the averag person had 3 swimming pools, someone who had 2 pools or fewer would be classed as poor...

ridiculous IMO - it makes the target of getting families out of poverty unachievable (SOME WIL, BY DEFINITION, BE LESS THAN AVERAG) SODDING CAPSLOCK.

no, that income doesn't seem low to me. thouh it depends where they live: great for northern UK, rubbish for london.

KatyH · 06/08/2009 22:17

I think less than 60% of the average (median?) income is classed as living in poverty. Don't know what the average is though.

Unlike last week we didn't get to see any of Brandon's school friends. I wonder what they think of his mum? I assume she must have problems that prevent her from working but she didn't want publicised.

I too don't get why the boys could not share a room. Or, if they have to, move the little one onto the sofa bed in the night, instead of lifting a 9 year old.
also, in the parent's room, did I see a bunkbed? (because I saw Brandon on one peering down onto his brother's toddler bed?)
Very confused by the whole sleeping arrangement.

MollieO · 06/08/2009 22:20

If it meant that my school aged son could get a decent night's sleep then yes I would give up my bedroom. Mind you younger child's behaviour would have to be pretty bad for that to happen.

It was good that the 'rich' kids were lovely too. The obvious thing to do would have been to portray them as spoilt brats and they didn't seem to be like that.

MollieO · 06/08/2009 22:21

You must have missed the opening couple of minutes .

Not sure why younger boy wasn't sleeping on the sofa and I wonder if there is some family dynamic there?

The rich kids seemed lovely. Was in awe of the 3-villa complex in Spain all owned by the family. How superb! (and yes, am extremely )

nomorecake · 06/08/2009 22:21

it must have actually been quite difficult to take money from someone else.

and so hard to feel like you cant provide for your family, and for someone else to step in for you.

i take issue with the program in regards to holidays. i know only two families that take an annual holiday. not everyone goes on holiday.

as a kid (upto 16) i only went on holiday 3 times. staying a couple of days with relatives was a mini break!

also, i do hope it wasnt i hairdryer i saw in their kitchen- please, no personal grroming in kitchens!

nancy75 · 06/08/2009 22:21

i really dont believe brandon slept on the sofa, it was either done to make their life look as bad as posiible or in the hope the council would feel pressure to give them a bigger flat.

poshtottie · 06/08/2009 22:22

Little Daisy did say she had a louis Vuitton handbag.

Probably one of her mother's cast offs.

hippipotamiHasLost54lbs · 06/08/2009 22:22

The whole Brandon does not have a bedroom thing / sleeps on the sofa bed made me feel like he did not really 'live there'. Like he was not a true part of the family but a visitor who had never left...
Poor little chap And he was soooo nice!

thegrammerpolice · 06/08/2009 22:24

Ah I missed that bit Poshtottie (I did indeed miss the first few minutes Mollie)

MollieO · 06/08/2009 22:25

I wondered about Brandon, especially if younger son is son of both mum and dad rather than just mum. I can imagine Brandon complaining about younger one's behaviour and being told that if he didn't like it he could sleep on the sofa.

Just watching it on +4 now. Will report back once I read everyone elses comments, but dear me! Did she have to buy that laptop, and not buy coats for the kids!

FluffyBunnyGoneBad · 06/08/2009 22:29

You know the letter they sent to say thankyou for the first load of money said she would have liked to have spent more on the children
You can buy alot of clothes with £500. Laptop or clothes. Hmm.

MollieO · 06/08/2009 22:31

I don't understand why they had to get such an expensive computer complete with webcam. A desktop would have been half the price.

hippipotamiHasLost54lbs · 06/08/2009 22:31

That was the bit that really irked me fluffy, it was like saying "more please"

Really did not like Zelda. She was a cold fish compared to last week's lovely lovely mum.

cheesesarnie · 06/08/2009 22:32

why on earth didnt brandon have a bedroom yet his parents did?they should have had the sofa!!

i dont think they were that badly off tbh.they earn more than we do,have a smaller family-although maybe there rent etc is more.i consider us kind of struggling but fine!we live in a lovely house, our dc are happy(we make sure they are clothed befoe treating us!!)

all the children in tonights were lovely!

i would not buy skin cream from that woman!

cheesesarnie · 06/08/2009 22:34

last weeks mum was soo lovely and i cried throughout!she really was thankful and what the 'rich' family did really did change there lives!

LadyOfWaffle · 06/08/2009 22:34

They must have debt - we managed a £600 mortgage on £18,000 a while back. I saw the camera scan onto "HD" on her first list Watching on +1, hope it gets better for those adorable kids.

FluffyBunnyGoneBad · 06/08/2009 22:36

The 'I've not had a holiday for three years' was

LadyOfWaffle · 06/08/2009 22:36

and I am sure they already had a computer, am sure I saw the dad clicking a mouse in the first few scenes...

MollieO · 06/08/2009 22:37

Looked on C4 website to see if more info. I completely missed that Brandon is only 9 and Ashley is 13. Would have thought they were similar ages.
