I thought so too jackieNo.

cornsilk · 10/07/2009 22:48

Yes but they were well hard soldiers with a helicopter etc. Surely they could have swooped down and grabbed a hoody if they'd really wanted to.

bigfatmummy · 10/07/2009 22:48

Never thought I'd see the day - but I've complained to the BBC!!!

AitchTwoOh · 10/07/2009 22:48

was it soldiers? i thought it was other kids.

cornsilk · 10/07/2009 22:49

Twas soldiers.

cornsilk · 10/07/2009 22:49

oooh big fat mummy - what did you say?

BlackLetterDay · 10/07/2009 22:50

Also why didn't the soldiers taking the children have guns? Never seen soldiers with batons before.

AitchTwoOh · 10/07/2009 22:50

better if it wasn't kids...

i watched a lot of torchwood but was never really in thrall to it. like i was, say, with the extraordinary buffy.

KayHarkerIsKayHarker · 10/07/2009 22:50

reality, well, I think it's likely, which will wipe out Torchwood even existing.

Which I will be quite happy about, tbh.

AitchTwoOh · 10/07/2009 22:50

interested to knwo what the complaint was...

poorbuthappy · 10/07/2009 22:51

Aitch, he was playing football with the soldiers, not other kids.

I thought that Jack would swap places with Stephen at the last minute cos of the whole not ageing (sp??) thing...

I hope it doesn't come back, its lost something, and I doubt I will watch it again.

Bloody hell, the new doctor must be bricking it! Never mind the tv critics, come and read our opinions!

JamieJay · 10/07/2009 22:51

AitchTwoOh - you're right about the Frobisher thing, a civil servant (even a Perm Sec) isn't going to be enough of a public figure to convince other people to follow suit.

Felt a bit like RTD wanted to show what parents would do to prevent their children from being taken (posts on here have shown that his actions were realistic) and needed a family to fill the plot.

UnquietDad · 10/07/2009 22:52

Jack would have done it himself if he could, but it had to be a child.

AitchTwoOh · 10/07/2009 22:52

oh, also, i really mean it about the caretaker, why was he a baddie, what was all that about? dd2 was being a pita at the time.

cornsilk · 10/07/2009 22:53

I loved the scene where Gwen was running away from the soldiers carrying the child. The expression on her face was so desperate. I really liked her in this series.

cornsilk · 10/07/2009 22:53

I think the caretaker was just a bit of a twat really.

I don't think the caretaker was a baddie really. Think he had been stuck in the basement obsessing over his wavelengths for too long.

FluffyBunnyGoneBad · 10/07/2009 22:54

It was wrong to use children like this. It's playing on the concerns of every parent and this is wrong to me. Everyone wants their child to be safe, we can't be there with them at school so we have alot of trust in the staff. Anything that hints your child isn't safe is menacing.

aitch - I don't think he was a baddi - just being very negative about the possibility of Jack finding a way to get rid of the 456. So the baddie assassin woman shot him . Seemed a bit of an overreaction, really, when he might actually be helpful.

bronze · 10/07/2009 22:54

Dh is away I don't want to be on my own

BLD agree re Dekker

JamieJay · 10/07/2009 22:55

I think the caretaker was a baddie to be honest. Think he'd just become so focused / engrossed in these creatures after 40 years that he'd lost his connection with humanity - it was just like some big experiment to him.

Hence the way he made the comment about what would happen to the child with a almost sense of excitement.

So you oculd say baddie but not in the classic sense

KayHarkerIsKayHarker · 10/07/2009 22:55

If it's any help, I'm really quite looking forward to emo-Doc now. I really don't fancy him, and I like the look of his companion, so it's all good.

I can't see how Torchwood can continue now they've killed off so much of the original team, such as it was, and turned Jack into the prince of darkness; which he SO doesn't have the acting chops for.
