the fool, agree completely,
he has the bigger picture in mind, when its one vs millions there really is no choice.

jodee · 10/07/2009 22:30

MUST NOT READ THREAD! Flaming Iplayer, I've not been able to watch it at 9, and every night it's been on just after 10, tonight's episode won't be available until after midnight! BUGGERS.

JamieJay · 10/07/2009 22:30

Really good drama and agree with bigfatmummy (and probablt others I've forgotten to name check), it wasn't Torchwood.

Day 4 and 5 were starting to feel to much to social commentary on our attitutes to under-achieving children.

Never thought I'd say it, but I hope Torchwood doesn't come back.

Have a feeling it could come back just because of the ratings, maybe with that female agent replacing Jack and he could end up with another show charting his journey seeking redemption (a spin-off of a spin-off of anyone!)

I found it harrowing and don't yet have children so can only imagine how it must has felt for those of you with LOs

No, its as if we ( I say we, not me personally obv LOL) saw off cybermen, Toclafane, daleks and the like

then forgot to check if this bunch were a risk before almost handing them the future

unlikely, one would hope

UnquietDad · 10/07/2009 22:33

Do hope if it comes back we don't get Evil Harman Type as PM! Harriet Jones wouldn't have let that happen... she'd have found a way to blow the 456 out of the sky!

Still not properly explained why they had to ask for the children and not just take them. I was thinking the act of making the choice was going to be important in some way.

scrappydappydoo · 10/07/2009 22:33

I don't watch torchwood (until now) so will probably be corrected....
I think the whole plot is to emphasise (sp?) Jack human side - I believe he is human?? Something along the lines of yes he can't die but it doesn't mean he can't make mistakes and part of the problem in not dying is that you have to live with those mistakes forever. He is a still human and therefore still flawed.
I found it difficult to watch and when they picked up the kids from the school my thoughts were 'thats it I'm not sending dds to school ever!!'

KayHarkerIsKayHarker · 10/07/2009 22:34

So, is the children thing one of the things he couldn't remember doing as a time agent, then? I'm lost, tbh.

GColdtimer · 10/07/2009 22:34

So just watched last nights then saw the trailer for tonights episode. Because I am so hormonal at the moment I didn't think I could cope with it so came on her to see how bad it was. Do I win wimp of the year .

Not sure I can cope with watching it - sounds awful.

Just want to know, why did Jack sacrifice his grandson?

MomDePlume · 10/07/2009 22:34

merr, that's what's really interesting though, isn't it? Because if CJ was right to sacrifice one child at the end to save millions, he was arguably right to do the same in in 1965 as well. Which is what led to all the trouble. That's why I liked it so much, because the problem seemed genuinely complex.

midlandsmumof4 · 10/07/2009 22:34

Storyline may have been off in parts-but how spot on where the politicians .

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 10/07/2009 22:34

How on earth are they going to do another series after that? RTD has said there is another series ready to go if the ratings on this one were good enough.

Who will be in charge? How would Jack redeem himself in any way shape or form?

There are too many questions.

cornsilk · 10/07/2009 22:35

Why did Frobisher shoot himself and his family? I was in and out during that bit.

merr · 10/07/2009 22:35

"Day 4 and 5 were starting to feel to much to social commentary on our attitutes to under-achieving children."

I hate to say it jamiejay, but the point is if there ever was a reason to have to shed part of the population, the least useful/likely to be useful would be the first to go.

Its uncomfortable, but at least it makes people think/talk about it.

PeachyTheRiverParrettHarlot · 10/07/2009 22:36

Actually I also think Jack had no choice

which doesn't make t any less worse of course

But you'd think there'd be at elast one passing hoodie in the area, at elast tehn you'd get the DM back on side for the press onslaught

TheOddOne · 10/07/2009 22:36

As if Jack's daughter would ever let her son leave her side! My 2DSs would be RIGHT THERE!

I must confess i turned to DH and said i bet DIGITAL CHANNEL 141 is run by Mumsnetters (he laughed).

UD, probably no good explanation except that it was making the choice that made the drama.

PeachyTheRiverParrettHarlot · 10/07/2009 22:37

merr can you not do that please, some of us have the children with us at home that are erm,

least useful

please.

read the thread see how upset I got last night

KayHarkerIsKayHarker · 10/07/2009 22:37

Oh this is so why I don't like Torchwood. It just doesn't have the rich vein of optimism that Doctor Who has as a progamme.

bethoo · 10/07/2009 22:37

f%%$%$ traumatised!!!!

bethoo · 10/07/2009 22:37

AitchTwoOh · 10/07/2009 22:38

he could have chosen harriet harman's kid, she'd have deserved it. presumably he was playing footie with the rest.

capt jack not human.

GColdtimer · 10/07/2009 22:38

this is moving so fast everyone missed my question.

Why did Jack sacrifice his grandson? I am too wimpish to watch the last episode - only just watched last nights!

merr · 10/07/2009 22:39

momdeplume, your'e totally right!

part of the reason i found it so interesting is the whole 'trying to do whats best' angle, because as parents thats what we do all the time, its our job.
but often what we think is the best thing ends up being counterproductive.
