So, can you persuade me that it's worth watching Robin Hood (or not)?

I never watched it before - was thoroughly put off by the trailers.
BUT...
I understand they're making a third series now? So it can't really be that bad can it? It just looked so wooden on the trailers.
Anyway, just found out they're repeating series one on Saturday mornings, so I could theoretically tape it and catch up. But can someone tell me if it's worth the effort?

For Guy of Gisborne yes

lucasnorth · 18/12/2008 21:26

Hmm yes to be honest that is my main motivation. But is the rest of it bearable-enough? And is there plenty of him in it?
Cheers

I think it is only enjoyable if you are a 5/6 year old boy or have a real attraction to Guy of Gisborne

lucasnorth · 18/12/2008 21:33

Well one of those categories fits me to a T...
But is that enough????

I watched the first episode and decided it was such total crap rubbish that I couldn't face any more. And I normally like rubbish TV shows

lucasnorth · 18/12/2008 21:37

Hmmmm
Am thinking may give it a miss and watch North and South on DVD again then...

Thanks ladies

No, no, no. Forget about whether it's good. That's completely irrelevant.

Just imagine Richard Armitage in black leather and eyeliner.

You have your answer.

roisin · 18/12/2008 21:43

I love RA, but struggle completely with Robin Hood. I would choose North & South DVD every time.

I can have it on now whilst doing something else and don't even need to watch as I know the soundtrack, script, and all the camera shots/angles off by heart!

I have never ever watched a DVD anything like as many times.

lucasnorth · 18/12/2008 21:46

FriendNeedsHelp / roisin - you have neatly summed up my dilemma!!
Perhaps I will try one episode to see if the (ahem) scenic attractions can compensate for the general direness I had suspected (and which seems to have been universally confirmed )
I'll report back next week

Watch on iPlayer, Lucas. You can ff through all the dull/stupid/non-Guy scenes.

(I like your tattoos, btw.)

LittleJingleBellas · 18/12/2008 21:49

Family bonding time.

Mmmmm Guy of Gisbourne...

lucasnorth · 18/12/2008 21:49

Oh, and N&S:

"Look back at me"
(melts)

But is it just me or was Margaret a bit of a rude spoilt brat?
He would have been MUCH better off with someone nicer. Like me. (stamps feet)

ooh, just realised that North and South was one of the free Daily Mail DVDs I got a few months back, now that I see RA in a whole new light (thank you Spooks ), I might have to see if DD1 fancies joining me in some Proper BBC Drama viewing...

lucasnorth · 18/12/2008 21:53

Is it on iPlayer still? Can you link? I couldn't find it

(I like my tattoos too )

OP posts:
roisin · 18/12/2008 21:55

My favourite scenes in N&S aren't that one actually. I particularly like the ones with Higgins and Thornton (well, obviously!)

When Higgins tells him of Margaret's dad's death and they go into the canteen, and you just see his knuckles whitening as he tightens his fist.

Then at the end in the empty, silent mill when Higgins (with a sly grin on his face) reveals to him the secret about Fred.

Ooh I'm feeling all nostalgic now: I want to go and watch it again too

FriendNeedsHelp · 18/12/2008 21:58

No, just thought, if it's repeated on Sat mornings, it'll be on iPlayer the same day.

You can watch him:

ride a horse
brandish a leathergloved fist
smoulder and brood
shout at peasants
get tied up

Anyway, up to you...

lucasnorth · 18/12/2008 21:59

Yes, it is hard to pick out favourite scenes because there are just so many. The proposal scene is another that I thought was great.
And for the scene where she first sees him in a snowstorm of cotton is just (literally) beautiful.

Nuts. Now I'm going to end up watching Robin Hood AND N&S and my DH is going to suspect something's up

lucasnorth · 18/12/2008 22:00

OOOooh. Does he get tied up a lot? You're definitely winning me over [festive leer emoticon]

lucasnorth · 18/12/2008 22:02

Regarding my tattoos I don't suppose you got a good look at my inside right arm? It says something fairly long in Russian which I could read if I could get a decent look at it.

OP posts:
FriendNeedsHelp · 18/12/2008 22:05

Tied to a tree, lucas. And gagged.

[nabs your festive leer emoticon]

Can't you ask your ex re the Russian tattoo?

lucasnorth · 18/12/2008 22:07

OK Robin Hood well and truly sold. It could be paint drying the rest of the time and I'd still sit through it.

Regarding my tattoo, it's not the language that's a problem. It's that I move around so damn fast, and don't take my shirt off often enough (petition script writers?), so that I can't actually see the whole thing.

OP posts:
lucasnorth · 18/12/2008 22:09

And clearly my ex is the only woman in the country NOT interested in seeing me with my shirt off, so she's not damn help at all. What I need is a love interest in the next series.

FriendNeedsHelp · 18/12/2008 22:09

[volunteer emoticon]

lucasnorth · 18/12/2008 22:13

it does seem a shame that someone put the time and effort into designing the things and then no one can actually see them properly. Perhaps we need an episode shot entirely in a sauna?

Oh, and I'm so glad they didn't let me out of jail after 7 years because it would have totally messed up the pattern on my back...

OP posts:
FriendNeedsHelp · 18/12/2008 22:15

Someone needs to pin you down and run a small torch very slowly all over you.

[repeat volunteer emoticon]

Hmmm, is this getting a bit weird?.
