I didn't see it....when I saw the trailer it didn't grab me.

BUT I did think that it would be VERY mumsnet! lol

Actually, the kids aren't scripted although the adults are. One of the links earlier in this thread explained it very well.

I could identify so well with lots of things in that episode, especially that slight feeling of panic that your child is going to be seated away from you in the company of other children and thinking of all the things they might get up to. The only thing that really didn't strike true was the dad trying to persuade the little girl to eat her peas. I could imagine that conversation happening at home, but, really, could anyone be bothered about pushing veggies at a wedding?

nappyaddict · 21/11/2008 11:10

EC - which things did you find rude and brattish then? the only thing i could think of was when the little girl was talking to the bride just before they were going to enter the church.

tonton · 21/11/2008 11:13

Missed it and have tried to download it from iPlayer several times but for some reason it dopesn't seem to be available. (except to 'play' which my connection is to slow for).

i love it too, dh and i were in pieces last night. loved the "perfect mum" next door!

mrsruffallo · 23/11/2008 09:05

I love it, I think it's hilarious.

christywhisty · 23/11/2008 22:06

We all loved it, DS 13 has been you tubing the first series this afternoon.

DH and I have had exactly the same conversation about DD as they did about Karen and the dead mouse ie it's always Mummy's fault, never Daddy's.

SpirobranchusGiganteus · 29/11/2008 22:01

We play Scissors, Rock, Paper, Nuclear Bomb too.

It's hilarious. Don't understand why anyone would disagree (unless you don't have children).

This is so much like the chaos in our house it is hilarious (apart from that the "perfick mummy" next door to us is Greek Cypriot not blond, but Perfick nonetheless)

DS1 (agd 8) loves it!

SlartyBartFast · 29/11/2008 23:59

it gets on my nerves. the ways the kids speak and the adults respond. drives me nuts - why all the explaining - ALL the time - COS I SAID SO i am almost screaming at the screen.

SlartyBartFast · 30/11/2008 00:19

the parents are a bit wishy washy, but it is recognisable yes.

Tinker · 30/11/2008 00:21

The parents talk about being stressed (not sure if they do but they should) but don't actually appear to be at all.

Saturn74 · 30/11/2008 00:24

I think the two boys are very good.
I'm not so keen on the little girl.

Twinklemegan · 30/11/2008 00:43

Is that really true? That it's the children doing the improvising. I'd assumed it was at least partly the other way around. I think it's great (although I do find the boy with the hair a bit spoilt brattish, but then aren't we meant to?)

Tortington · 30/11/2008 01:44

and they are the THE most articulate children ihave ever heard in my life, in fact i would be very pleased if my 15 yr old came out with some of that vocab and sentance structure.

southeastastra · 30/11/2008 14:58

hmm tend to agree with custardo, some bits are funny, but i don't know, i find the children quite annoying.

seems more like a children's programme in a way

squeaver · 30/11/2008 22:49

There's an interview with Andy Hamilton in the Sunday Times today. Everything the 2 younger ones say is improvised. Sometimes they then change the adults' scripts to fit in with what the kids have come out with.

I wonder if some people don't get it because it's a London "thing". I "get" and sympathise with nearly all of it and see a lot of other people I know in it but I just could not imagine it being set in, say, Glasgow. And I say that as a Scot living in London.
