AbbaFan · 15/11/2008 23:08

I loved this, and actually did LOL a few times. The kids are sooo funny, especially the boy with all the hair.

I don't remember the 1st series at all. Will try and see if I can watch it online or something.

seeker · 15/11/2008 23:11

"I watched a very short bit of it before DP turned over." Excuse me? You were watching that!!!!!!!!

Is is suitable for children? The trailers look good, and I was thinking of watching it on Iplayer with dd12 and ds7. Suitable?

MrsGeneHunt · 15/11/2008 23:15

ds 14 watched over my shoulder on iplayer, aboslutely fine.

Threadworrm · 15/11/2008 23:21

I saw this for the first time today. Really brilliant. Whoever got those fantastic performances from the younger children is a genius.

The questions asked by the boy with all the hair are exactly like those of my DS2.

nappyaddict · 15/11/2008 23:24

Fine too watch with children but they might start picking up some of their ideas

Wanted to say to the dad actually you can be allergic to peas

AbbaFan · 15/11/2008 23:36

Series 1 is available to buy on Amazon. Think i'll be adding that to my christmas list

MaryAnnSingleton · 16/11/2008 08:52

we watched it with 11yr old ds who laughed a lot ! was hoping he will relate to sensitive and sensible Jake

AbbaFan - that's a good idea - my parents might like it actually !!

My ds(10) thought it was hilarious. He attempted to tell ds2 about it but he couldn't speak for laughing. He especially loved the bit about Jesus 'zapping' Herod and squashing him with a hippopotamus. I don't think he'll be able to look at a crucifix without sniggering after the little boys suggestion of how Jesus's expression on the crucifix should actually be. Loved it.

seeker · 17/11/2008 21:15

We watched it this evening - dd and ds(12 and 7) howled with laughter all the way through and went off to bed quoting lines at each other. I think it's time to introduce them the Blackadder.........!

Wallace · 17/11/2008 21:22

thank you for the recommendation, I really enjoyed it

nannynick · 17/11/2008 21:50

Outnumbered is great.

For those looking for repeats:

Episode 2 (of 7)

  • Saturday BBC1 21:10 (England, Scotland, Wales and N Ireland)

For those wondering what Outnumbered is, watch this Clip from Series 1 - Santa and other subjects

nannynick · 17/11/2008 22:15

Short audio from Andy Hamilton about how they didn't script the children - MP3 file

nannynick · 17/11/2008 22:26

Andy Hamilton was also talking about Outnumbered on Radio 4 - Front Row, last Thursday - Listen Again (probably until end Wed 19 Nov 08)

easycar · 19/11/2008 22:09

OMG . I really can't believe this thread. I watched this in utter horror at how awful it was. The chidlren were anything but funny. Spolit precocious middle class brats. I am amazed they claim they were improvising as it looked like they were reading from autocues. Definitely not in the slightest bit cute (I just wanted to slap them (and I am v anti smacking!!) and tell them to SHUT UP). AAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!

Please tell me that you work for the BBC and this is some desperate attempt to get people to watch this rubbish. Noone I know in real life actually did watch it so hopefully it will be soon back on BBC3 at 1 in the morning or dropped all together.

MaryAnnSingleton · 19/11/2008 22:17

no,don't work for the BBC - it's great ! they are middle class because that's what they are (though that shouldn't be a criticism)

RTKangaMummy · 20/11/2008 11:28

WE all think it is deffo brill

DS {13 years} watched and loved it too

I watched the last series too but DH and DS didn't

nappyaddict · 20/11/2008 11:52

I didn't think they were spoilt, perhaps the little girl a tiny bit. In what way do you think they were spoilt?

MaryAnnSingleton · 20/11/2008 11:54

seemed to me that easycar was bothered by their being middle class, and therefore spoiled, though she may correct that notion !

bran · 20/11/2008 15:07

I think good comedy is one of those things that polarises opinion. For instance I hate The Office, I know that it's won loads of awards but I find it cringy and totally unfunny. DH and I though Outnumbered was hilarious, but then we are raising what easycar would probably consider to be a spoilt, precocious, middle-class brat who is already verbally outwitting us at only 4 yr old (and we love him very much in all his brattyness).

nappyaddict · 20/11/2008 16:31

bran - i don't think being witty is brattish at all

Redazzy · 20/11/2008 18:53

Another one here who loved it. In fact dh and I tend not to 'get' the same comedy and we both really liked this. It is on skyplus series link now! An honour indeed for any programme!

easycar · 20/11/2008 19:17

No middle class wasn't the issue really as I would consider myself middle class.

I just thought the kids were complete brats and totally unfunny. Yes my kids (4 and 8) do say some very funny things and sometimes it's funny because they are unexpected and sometimes slightly inappropriate coming out of the mouth of a 4 or 8 year old. However I just hated all this idea of children being treated like mini adults as if they are the centre of the universe and every rude or brattish comment treated like some pearl of wisdom. You can just hear the parents' oh you must meet Tarquin. He's only 4 but he's soooooooo witty'. My BF had this exact same thing when friends of theirs brought their 4 year old to an adult dinner party genuinely under the impression that everyone would be as enrupt with the the utterances of their offspring as they obviously were.

Plus of course it is all totally false. It's not cute kids saying witty things it's drama school kids reading (quite obviously a script) and making sure they eeeeeeeeeeeeeenuuuunceeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaate properly. Awful.

For the record I hated Different Strokes and Cosby show for pretty much same reasons although I do LOVE the Office
