at tonights dinner moony!

Blondeshavemorefun · 30/09/2008 21:44

I just find it sad that woman and men cant cook or know how to

bundle · 30/09/2008 21:44

there is nothing emancipating about crap food, though I can see where the idea comes from as a route to freeing up women from "traditional" tasks.

I just get dh to do all the washing up, emptying bins etc, stuff i hate

NappiesGalore · 30/09/2008 21:46

well i feel lucky and glad that i have been taught about good food and basic nutrition and basics of cooking (even if i am crap at buying ingredients)

and i reckon its a shame other poepl dont have that door opened to them

Blandmum · 30/09/2008 21:47

and also if you cook 'old fashioned' stuff like roasts, you get a doddle of a meal the next day from the left overs.

So on sunday we had a roast gammon, with veg, tatties and cheese and mustard sauce.

Monday night we had cold gammon with peas and chunky chips (skin on, olive oil, 40 mins in a hot oven)

Piss easy, and just as fast as 'convenience' food. And we still have some left for sarnies

moondog · 30/09/2008 21:47

Crap food is dispiriting and it shows in your eyes and hair and skin.

Mind you,I am becoming obsessed by the thought that too much choice actually becomes a very repressive and confusing thing, and i think there is too much choice re what to eat/cook.

I've made a conscious effort just to buy and eat quite basically most of the time-porridge,muesli, sandwiches, brown rice, lots of veggies, cold roast meat- that sort of malarkey.

PigeonQV · 30/09/2008 21:47

Oh I bloody love JO for just this sort of thing.

Yes, he makes money from it, but, look at what he's doing in return?

He's fucking brilliant.

Blondeshavemorefun · 30/09/2008 21:48

ditto pigeon

moondog · 30/09/2008 21:49

I think JO is a good bloke but even he is selling us summat, which is a glossy expensive cookbook.

I went to look at cookbooks today in a bookshop and for the first time ever, not one stirred my loins. Must be getting old.

zippitippitoes · 30/09/2008 21:49

i used to msake pastry for ja m tarts when i was little

i think now looking back cooking was me and my dad

when i was a teen he did all the weekend meals and we did the shoppinmg together

i made cake and sunday pudding and a styarter lol

OP posts:
zippitippitoes · 30/09/2008 21:51

he rotated a different roast each week

for sunday

we had liver and bacon or faggots and peas for saturday lunch

Blandmum · 30/09/2008 21:51

Pork loin, MD?

Carmenere · 30/09/2008 21:51

The thing is that JO could just do regular poncy cook books and tv programmes if he wanted to and he would remain rich and famous but he really tries to make a difference which is admirable.

PigeonQV · 30/09/2008 21:52

OH of course he is selling something. ANd he is promoting the JO 'brand'.

But, all the work he does - even if it does amount to PR - it benefits A LOT of people, and, mostly children. I really can't fault him for that.

His enthusiasm rubs off too. I wish there were more like him tbh.

expatinscotland · 30/09/2008 21:56

she can't afford decent ingredients but she can afford takeaways and cigarettes.

WTF is wrong with people?!

seriously, where are peoples' fucking priorities?

'oh, it's stressful, let's eat a bunch of shite.'

zippitippitoes · 30/09/2008 21:56

hmm not sure how the no money thing wsorks here

in some way

OP posts:
zippitippitoes · 30/09/2008 21:58

wwell thats what i think i have the same thing weith my dd2

OP posts:
Blondeshavemorefun · 30/09/2008 21:58

so she sells her jewerely, and then buys fags and takeaways

but cant afford to buy veg

grrrrrrrrrrrr

moondog · 30/09/2008 21:58

It may well have been actuALLY..

I buy 1/2 a lamb for £25 and half a pig for £40 locally. No food ponces, just regular farming folk who bring it to yuor house and stay for a gossip and a quick drink.

I love it.

giddykipper · 30/09/2008 21:58

He could have taught them cheaper recipes though with ingredients you can buy in a corner shop. Salmon's not exactly cheap.

expatinscotland · 30/09/2008 21:59

do people just pack it in that easily?

fucking hell.

'oh, i have bills i can't pay.'

yeah? so do 90% of the people out there.

that's fucking LIFE.

and for not having any more jewellry she was covered in it.

sorry, i lose patience really easily with people who give up at the first sign of trouble and just fuck things up even worse.

Blondeshavemorefun · 30/09/2008 22:00

agree expat

though some on tonight programme, did try to help theirselves and learn how to cook

zippitippitoes · 30/09/2008 22:00

well i agree salmon isnt the cheapest

i dont actually like jamie but i do think people can cook or could cook

artichokes · 30/09/2008 22:00

They lack more than cooking skills, some of them lack an understanding of how to get on in life.

zippitippitoes · 30/09/2008 22:01
