Give us a clue! What channel please?

Alambil · 19/09/2008 00:00

itv2 plus one - was on an hour ago on ITV2... I'm running late!

It's basically Supernanny abroad with british teens - a bit like that desert one they did recently - Brat Camp

Although they go to different families; American Christians, Indian, African etc

It's BBC 3 sorry

Oh darn I wanted to see this - is it still on?

Oooh it is - thank you so much Lewis!

Alambil · 19/09/2008 00:02

It is - it's just started; one gay boy and one girl in an American trad Christian (altho not appearing to be "wacky") household; interesting!!

Thanks Lewisfan. I cannot see it there so maybe it might be repeated later this week.

Candlewax · 19/09/2008 00:04

Just seen the BBC3 message! Got it now.

S1ur · 19/09/2008 00:06

I'm watching.

Nutty folk.

themoon66 · 19/09/2008 00:07

i saw this. It was very good. Not your usual car crash telly in the style of wife swap.

I thought the alabama family would be really extreme and OTT for the sake of shock telly. But they were lovely with the teens.

S1ur · 19/09/2008 00:10

The boy is making me laugh, reminds of several people I once knew.

TeenyTinyTorya · 19/09/2008 00:10

Want to slap that boy, Ross!

Alambil · 19/09/2008 00:10

I thought that too - I like them

Alambil · 19/09/2008 00:12

lol slur!

I like the way he's telling her off in a really adult way; he doesn't seem to be "parenting" her like a child which is good

OP posts:
TeenyTinyTorya · 19/09/2008 00:14

The family seem really caring, and not at all the typical fundamentalist crazy sterotype that tends to get portayed on telly.

Alambil · 19/09/2008 00:16

It's refreshing to see, isn't it? That a Christian family can actually be NORMAL too!

I think the way they're caring for them is fantastic; seems to be working

I wonder why though? I mean, they've taken these "uncontrollable" teens in their houses and had NO issues (well, no major issues) so far... why? Why aren't they so calm at home too?

Weird.

OP posts:
S1ur · 19/09/2008 00:18

Well, they are caring and very involved.

It is the over involvement that gets me though. That is a wee bit barmy. I would be suffocated in that house. There is a line between support and smothering.

Saturn74 · 19/09/2008 00:22

the red-haired son of the family reminds me of what rod and todd flanders would be like when they grew up.

if they existed.

obviously.

TeenyTinyTorya · 19/09/2008 00:23

They are quite involved, but the teenagers are trying it on a bit. The parents are making a good point about trust.

Alambil · 19/09/2008 00:24

I don't see that; I think the ethos is good; perhaps they are a bit OTT regards to music etc.

My parents censored our music growing up and looking back, it was OTT and they admit that... but at the time it seemed fine.

I like however, the way that they've just broke the rules - now they're being corrected and it's not OTT in my eyes... it's just being mum and dad and getting the respect they deserve. Seeing their genuine disappointment helps I think

OP posts:
Alambil · 19/09/2008 00:26

Imagine that in their normal homes; they'd have never ran upstairs without a murmur

I wonder WHY it's so different.... seems bizarre that they've not answered back and argued and all sorts I imagined they would

OP posts:
TeenyTinyTorya · 19/09/2008 00:28

I missed the first fifteen minutes - are they totally crazy at home then?

Alambil · 19/09/2008 00:31

Yeah, they're completely their own boss

Ross doesn't do ANYthing at home; he expects to be paid to go to college and all sorts...

The girl is very angry at home and ignores her mum a lot and argues/fights etc

OP posts:
S1ur · 19/09/2008 00:38

Oh I don't know Lew! I thionk they are different mainly because they are teenagers on film transported to a new country with a different (very different) family.

If they had grown up there? If they stayed there from now permanantly?

I think they would be resentment and anger about sexuality, independence, freedom of thought and actions.

They are not parents I would emulate despite (and perhaps because of) their extraordinarily well contained children.

I do think they are not completely nutty though, they have said some lovely kind things to those teens.

Alambil · 19/09/2008 00:40

I like the fact they've not tried to convert them or said anything about his being gay - I thought that was going to be a real bone of contention for them.

I'd LOVE to be that kinda parent!! I've been writing tips haha! (joke)!

seriously though - it wasn't the carcrash I thought it was going to be

OP posts:
S1ur · 19/09/2008 00:53

I agree not a carcrash and they were nice (if misguided ) and they tried and they were caring and they didn't say you shouldn't be gay. But of course they would've if lad had been a permanant fixture I feel.

So yes they were not bad, they were kind. But I am not going to be converting to strict religious approach to parenting.

Unsurprisingly.
