Am I the only person who still can't get over The Doctor and Rose?

  1. It's just TV show.
  2. I will be 40 years old next year.

So why do I feel like crying every time I think about this?! Bloody Russell T. Davies... why is everybody scared to write a happy ending these days?! [sulk]

She's had veneers, apparently, MT.

Monkeytrousers · 08/07/2008 18:32

Oh ddear

I had an actor friend who had this done on the recommendation of his agenht - and paid for by them - for 'the US market'...he ended up looking like Frank Butcher poor lad.

SciFiFan · 08/07/2008 18:44

I read on another thread that she had just had veneers (is that how you spell it??) put on her teeth and hadn't got used to them yet.

MegReally · 09/07/2008 10:19

Gwen couldn't be a descendant of the Victorian woman though because she died, those weird floaty things killed her. There was no mention of any offspring. She was descended from the same family, maybe.

Tinkjon · 09/07/2008 10:47

I'm glad it's not jsut me then

Maretta, ooooh, I'm liking your theory about DT being able to come back!!!

Yeahbut, Fake Doctor definitely told Rose he loved her. For one thing, you could see his jaw moving in such a way that would go with those words, and for another, Julie Gardner said on DW Confidential that he said it.

I suppose I agree that it was artistically right. But I don't want artistically right, I want kissing and lurrrrving each other! I can't believe that they brought her all the way back only to have to put us through it all over again. Bloody hell, I've only just got over the first time she had to leave him!! It's alright for Fake Doc, poor old Proper Doc gets nothing. And Rose didn't even get to kiss Proper Doc

I think it bothered me more this time because it's all changing - all the main execs are leaving, the show isn't coming back properly next year, DT may well leave [puts fingers in ears] [sings lalala] [refuses to consider possibility] At least I'm going to see DT in Hamlet later in the year, so I have to look forward too.

LOL about the Magnum/mini-milk, KH!

I met a Dalek on Saturday, btw! It was a little scary at first, seeing him in the distance, but he was actually pretty cute when we got to meet him. When we left he said to my DD "goodbye, small human female"

Elffriend · 09/07/2008 10:58

Tinkjon aaaahhhh! and at "small human female"! sooo cute -will never look at Daleks in the same way again.

I want kisses and lurve too (for me -sod Rose!). Am consoling myself watching youTube and sighing deeply (links on other thread.)

I did read somehwhere (clings desperately to the hope) that there were some talks about paying DT LOTS of money to stay past 2010 - so not guaranteed that he's going.

I'll quite happily chip in a few quid if it helps? I've read some of the specuation about potential new doctors and am not impressed. I want DT (and yes, i mean that in every sense!!)

MegReally · 09/07/2008 11:14

yes I would be concerned about a new Dr Who. Not least because everyone is obviously supposed to fancy John Barrowman, and I don't. If they got some Barrow-a-like in it would be instant turn-off for me. Ditto anyone who has ever been in Torchwood. Or Mickey.

SummatAnNowt · 09/07/2008 12:33

I've been dreaming about it, and the Donna thing. I've been telling people I'm still emotionally processing it

KayHarker · 09/07/2008 13:10

Just read something interesting on LJ which has changed my mind about the way the Doctor dealt with Donna. At first, I was peeved, because a heroic death would have been more fitting for her than a reset back to the careless person she was.

But, looking at it from his perspective - your best friend is about to die, and the only way you can save her is to make her forget you ever existed. She doesn't want you to do it, but would you? If you loved her very, very dearly as a friend, and you had that ability to save her, would you do it?

I think most people would, and I think, if I'm honest, I would rather she lived than died. Dramatically, I'd have preferred a death for her, but I can see why the Doctor did it.

edam · 09/07/2008 13:13

I may be sulking about this but he's the flipping doctor, why couldn't he just take the Time Lord bit out of her without destroying all her memories of him? He didn't wipe her brain of everything, she didn't have full memory loss... there are probably reasons but I'm still cross.

beansprout · 09/07/2008 13:14

It's also sadder that she is saved but has no idea of the life she had or could have had. Much more poignant.

DumbledoresGirl · 09/07/2008 13:22

I am only worrying about what sort of relationship Martha is going to have with Captain Jack. And where does that leave Gwen and Ianto? Oh and surely thick Micky can't have a place in Torchwood, can he?

Bring back Tosh and Owen!

charitygirl · 09/07/2008 13:27

Think he should have killed Donna somehow - its what she would have wanted, rather than going back to a life we know she hated. Like she was bloody lobotomised.

Grumble - made me feel very down.

SciFiFan · 09/07/2008 16:53

MegReally - what about Captain John in Torchwood!! He's never a turn off in my book.

Hopefully he'll be back again in Season 3 (yay).

MegReally · 09/07/2008 17:30

he's like a big plastic Ken doll. And CAMP! so CAMP! I'm sorry but I do not see the sexy there

I bet if you got him up to your room he would just spend the time admiring his own bare arse in your bedroom mirror

MegReally · 09/07/2008 17:31

oh you said JOHN sorry was still ranting about Barrowboy

okay sorry I take it all back. Spike as the Doctor. Fine. But he has to get the hair back and go to the gym again. Okay?

SciFiFan · 09/07/2008 18:02

Sounds good to me and I fully agree with your analysis of Captain JACK. LOL to the bare arse in the mirror bit .

How about Spike AND the Doctor (I might have to go and get some air after that thought ).

CalmCalmCalm · 09/07/2008 22:31

Oooh, Spike and the Doctor. Now you're talking!

I really didn't like the Rose and Doctor 2.0 ending. The only saving grace, in my mind, is that the Doctor sent his evil twin off with Rose so she'd stop stalking him. I know, I know, he probably [cough] loved her [cough]*, but I'm an Old Who fan. I'm still struggling with the idea of Doctor/companion shenanigans.

So, it can't be your age Tinkjon and NoBiggyFinish, I was 40 a couple of months ago.

MegReally · 10/07/2008 09:49

yes very true CalmCC - it was a bit like that. And he had River Song to look forward to. And he moves on quick, I tell you - he'd had two companions by the time she found him. As well as falling in love with a woman at a school. "I'll travel the universe alone" my foot. It was a bit 'he is damaged so he needs you, but I'm fine now thanks'.

I think twas a bit smug. What did he plan to do with the Daleks instead of offing them? Cuddle them to death?

bananaknickers · 10/07/2008 10:08

I found it odd when the doctor said goodbye to Donna in the kitchen. He walked in and said "i am off now".
I thought even the original Donna would have said " corr, who the hell is this totty standing in my kitchen".
I am sad, but this is the only thing I found unbelivable. . I would be thrilled to wake up with the doc in my kitchen.

MegReally · 10/07/2008 10:13

yes but she didn't fancy him. He was too skinny. She was going to marry the stocky bald black guy, remember? What use would she have for a pasty thin bloke with slightly vain floppy hair?

the bit I didn't get in that scene was he said she wasn't allowed to remember him, and then he stands about in her kitchen saying 'look at me! look at me!'

SaintGeorge · 10/07/2008 10:15

But Donna didn't fancy the Doctor, so why would she pay attention to him just because she had lost her memory? Her tastes wouldn't have changed.

MegReally · 10/07/2008 10:36

Where did he drop her though, in time? After all the shenanigans? In which case why isn't her mate on the phone saying "What are you talking about? This gossip is months old"

MegReally · 10/07/2008 10:37

it is timey-wimey stuff, isn't it?

UnquietDad · 10/07/2008 10:42

What I don't quite get is how he is going to ensure that every memory of his adventures with Donna is purged. I mean, even if she forgets everything after their second meeting, surely someone will say "ooh, didn't you work as a temp at Adipose? What was their boss like? I hear she was a bit weird?" And that will spark something off.

And then what about the events of "The Runaway Bride"? Surely even Donna will remember that she was once about to get married and was transported out of the church in a pillar of Huon energy (or whatever it's called)...

And then there's the wedding photos and videos! And the fact that one of her friends is sure to mention "ooh, that weird wedding of yours where we had the reception at Christmas in bright sunlight..."
