Agree about the gay storyline being outdated..
What is the point of Jodie? She looks nothing like the rest of the family and adds nothing to the storyline
Craig and Amy are totally giving me the ick!

Alucard55 · 12/10/2026 23:04

@VivienneDelacroix exactly Christian and Syed were about 20 years ago.

Alucard55 · 12/10/2026 23:06

Agree no point in Jodie but I do think it's good that they have characters with conditions etc. and they don't make a big thing if it. It works well with Barney.

He does try with the crying but it’s cringeworthy. The only thing he does semi effectively is shout. He was in the Bill for years as well. It seems Directors see something in him that the rest of us just miss🤷🏽‍♀️

It's weird isn't it. There are quite a few terrible actors, but Scott Maslan is probably the longest running of them. And the fact that his character is so often paired with the likes of Max, Denise, Stacey in the past... Just makes him look even worse!

Why is Zack staying at Peacock Palace

Cos he’s too hot to stay at Vicci’s where he was lodging

Walking about in just a towel Vicki couldn't possibly control herself 😂

true, so he moved in with Mo and Jean to help with the rent and dampen his libido. But they didn't pay the rent.

the80sweregreat · 13/10/2026 05:17

Zac is very underused.
It is weird that they haven’t explained Jodie’s condition or even mentioned it in passing. Not sure if this a good thing or a bad thing really.

the80sweregreat · 13/10/2026 05:54

How a part time chef can afford to stay at Peacocks I’ve no idea, but here we are.

Eastie77Returns · 13/10/2026 06:52

80s they must have Zac on a long term discount rate at Peacocks no way could he stay there on pub chef wages. As I recall, Jean only charged him £500 a month to stay with the Slaters whereas that kind of B&B in East London would realistically be about £100+ a night.

Agree that EE are years behind the times with this Ryder storyline. I thought Josh’s ‘coming out’ to Patrick who just shrugged his shoulders and said yeah I know you’re gay was much more realistic. Of course Homophobia exists but most people just don’t care anymore. EE was groundbreaking when they featured the first soap gay kiss…in 1986. Time to move on guys.

I think the writers have gone in much too quickly with Ned, which makes me again think the actor is on a short term contract (maybe Ned will be murdered this Christmas or New Year?). On orders from Ned, Mark assaulted Ryder in today’s episode.

the80sweregreat · 13/10/2026 07:03

I feel it’s not really the actual ‘ coming out ‘ that they want to focus on, more that Ned can’t bear it and will try to make him uncomfortable and make it clear he isn’t happy about it and do something to him or anyone he knows or goes out with.
I think it was an own goal having him so unlikeable to start with. If they had made him different from the start and much nicer we would be rooting for him more I think.

the80sweregreat · 13/10/2026 07:04

I meant Ryder being more likable.

the80sweregreat · 13/10/2026 07:05

Mark assaulted Ryder ! I assumed he’d go after the man he was with .

have we even seen the two interact? I’ve not watched but seems utterly bizarre mark would do this, he’s a bit of muscle but beating up a young lad seems bad to even for him !

Ned blackmailed Mark into it as he saw him with Lauren at the Slaters' house!

the80sweregreat · 13/10/2026 07:09

Ned threatened to expose marks affair.
I suppose he thinks this is the end of it now , but it won’t be .

the80sweregreat · 13/10/2026 07:13

Poor Ryder though. Ned is truly evil.

I said exactly this to my DH. It feels like such an outdated storyline. It made sense with Christian and Syed, but this is just really lazy. I know there are young people whose families struggle with their sexuality, but it doesn't feel right with this family at all.
And good grief, if they recycle Suki's closeted parent storyline that would be ridiculous.

You would be surprised. I believe football is very much full of homophobia.
It is toxic masculinity. There isn’t many out gay professional football players.
I can’t think of any. I know one manager ended his life because he was gay.
My nephew is gay, he has a large friendship group, none of them play football, gym bunnies, no football.

LateLifeReturnee · 12/10/2026 08:47

And Lauren and Mark - just want to shake her. Again, makes no sense to me. But I don't find the actor that plays Mark that attractive, or the storyline believable.

I don't see the big deal about Mark. Peter seems pretty decent, but Mark's character is as boring to me and he looks like an Easter Island statue. I'm just admiring Jacqueline Jossa's radiant skin most of the time, rather than looking at him. I expect the actor himself is more attractive when he's not in character, but they have made Mark a bit boring to me.

Is Ned basically a therapist that uses what people say in therapy against them? Usually doctors are evil, teachers are perverts, vicars are serial killers, nurses are thieves (Sonia), coppers are bent, so it's a new persona they are creating for therapists that they can reuse in the future. Even Billy ended up digging up a body as an undertaker! You wouldn't want a professional role in EE - just stick to running a market stall or bar so you don't turn into a psychopath.

the80sweregreat · 13/10/2026 08:10

I know a few religious people ( or had a religious upbringing of some kind ) who are homophobic.
It is a lot more rife than people think it is, but they often keep their opinions to themselves so you wouldn’t know as such. Football is well known for it too.

Southeastdweller · 13/10/2026 08:14

It’s just clunky writing e.g the scene yesterday with in the Vic with the coach. I can also believe Ned being homophobic in a NIMBY way, but the writing is poor - dialogue and pace.

OP posts:
the80sweregreat · 13/10/2026 08:17

Irl , someone like Yolande would have views on people’s sexuality that certainly isn’t all rainbows and unicorns!

Shellingbynight · 13/10/2026 08:22

I meant to say, I too thought Josh was good last night with Denise and Kat. He is good is warm/lighter stuff. I think they could make something of him but I guess he will leave with Oscar.

And yes they have thrown so much evilness onto Ned that he won’t be around this time next year, no way he can be a long term character. He's likely to be Nic's victim no.3. 'Accidentally', as usual.

The focus on new (mostly rubbish) characters makes me think uncomfortably of Corrie which started doing this a few years ago and it has ruined the show. I hope Wadey is leaving when his two years is up.
