Fizzy someone was saying the other day that the fans are a bit distracting.

Can't be the only tournament where people fan themselves when it's hot?!

Karolina is playing well- she really has been playing well in the grass season.

I have one of those handheld electric fans but I'm not quite sure what the correct etiquette is— can you use it anytime or only at the sit downs? When we went earlier in the tournament our seats were hotter than the surface of the sun and I used it a lot.

I hadn’t thought about the fans being distracting Raahh - at Wimbledon the crowd are quite low down and near to the court so maybe that’s the difference

Fizzy that's probably the difference- for a 'big' court, it's pretty intimate, whereas place like PC or Arthur Ashe are vast. Even at the lower levels, the spectators are not that close to the players.

Some people had hand held fans when we were there Ice but we were high up so I don’t think the players would have heard it

Some of the people around us were quite noisy so I wouldn’t have been bothered about disturbing them

I think Camilla had one yesterday but I don’t think anyone would tell her not to use it

The towel sausages do make me laugh- they look so 'low tech' for tournaments that spend millions on the latest line call tchnology and analysis- the ice towel is just a towel with ice in it- held together with what looks like duct tape . (Probably isn't).

The hand held electric fans scare me. I would be that person caught on camera with my hair stuck (and cause a disruption in play )

I think soemone was caught nearly getting hair stuck at either Queen's or Eastbourne.

This has been a good start from both of them.

I used to think they were a bit gimmicky Raahh but now that I have one I love it.

I don't really know who to root for in this match- Coco has 2 slams. Karolina is my Barbora substitute, since she beat her So, I'll give her the edge.

Topsy Turvy scoreline- Coco has got better, Karolina's level has dropped.

So, it will all come down to who holds their nerve in the 3rd set.

Those of us who post on this thread all year round are a friendly bunch. Our so-called nicknames and in-jokes are not meant to exclude anyone else who posts on this thread and I'm sorry if anyone takes it that way. The Gladys nickname for Djok was coined by someone only last week because the blazer he has worn to come onto court reminded them of Hi-Di-Hi. As mentioned upthread, most of us regulars are not Djokovic fans but nor do we all like the same players. When we differ, we either have a friendly banter or don't comment at all. Either way, this thread is for everyone.

I think a quiet hand held electric fan is likely to be less distracting for the players than a manual fan that involves lots of movement.

I understand about the blazer. Federer was also fond of such concoctions. Andy Murray thankfully steered clear of being a fashion plate.

I add to the apologies for anyone who feels unwelcome on the thread - everyone is welcome and it’s nice to have different points of view, even if I don’t agree!
