This starts next week

S2 - which isn’t linked to s1 so seems no need to watch it but if you want to the thread here

https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/telly_addicts/4709428-the-light-in-the-hall-wed-and-thur-9pm-ch4-tv-pace-no-spoilers?utm_campaign=thread&utm_medium=app_share

The new episodes return to the fictional town of Llanemlyn as a controversial plan to expand the reservoir “reignites long-buried tensions”.

A brilliant Welsh cast come together, with former Emmerdale favourite Sian Reese-Williams (https://www.tvguide.co.uk/articles/10-hidden-gem-best-drama-tv-series-you-probably-havent-heard-of-summer-of-sport-the-gathering-top-dog/) back as Caryl.

Sian is the only returning cast member in series 2, which is more like an anthology series, than a sequel.

Here’s everything you need to know about The Light in the Hall: Still Waters, including plot, cast, start date, and filming locations.

Caryl Huws is the central character in the Welsh crime drama series (known in Welsh as Y Golau).

In series 1, Caryl was working in her father’s butcher shop. In series 2, she is an aspiring journalist.

The upcoming episodes follow ex-convict Rhys Owen, who returns to town after 20 years in prison.

It’s worth saying that he has always protested his innocence.

In 1995, activist Llyr died in a bombing, and his cousin Rhys was jailed for his murder. Fast forward to 2025, and Rhys returns to a town facing a new reservoir expansion protest.

Season two sees Siân Reese-Williams reprise her role as Caryl, who has returned to education to become a journalist.

While looking for a story, she becomes fascinated by the death of Llyr Owen in an explosion at a reservoir in 1995. Llyr's cousin Rhys, who was convicted of the murder, returns to the town after serving thirty years in prison.

The official synopsis reads: "Told across two timelines, the story begins in 1995, when activist Llyr Owen dies in a bombing and his cousin Rhys is jailed for the crime.

Thirty years later, Rhys returns home to a community once again divided by protest.

Young protesters Mabli and Hari reignite the conflict, drawing in trainee journalist Caryl. As she digs deeper, long-buried secrets emerge, including affairs, lies, and hidden evidence, which forced the town to confront its past.

The second series features an ensemble cast led once again by Siân Reese-Williams. She returns to play Caryl in the Channel 4 crime drama. Soap fans will know Siân for playing Gennie Walker in ITV’s Emmerdale between 2008 and 2013.

She’s also famous for her leading roles in Hidden, and Wolf. Siân recently played the victim’s mum Carys Davies in the Channel 5 drama (https://www.tvguide.co.uk/articles/the-downfall-of-huw-edwards-channel-5-drama-martin-clunes-disgraced-bbc-news-presenter-plot-cast-start-date-true-story/)Power: The Downfall of Huw Edwards.

Keeping Faith and Out There actor Mark Lewis Jones (https://www.tvguide.co.uk/articles/out-there-drama-itv-cast-martin-clunes-mark-lewis-jones-louis-ashbourne-serkis/) will play convicted murderer Rhys Owen, while Bang’s Nia Roberts stars as Eve Davies. Sherwood and Hustle star Robert Glenister portrays Robert Davies.

It's Tess from Casualty!

daffodilandtulip · 18/06/2026 20:19

I don’t think this is as good as series one.

moto748e · 18/06/2026 23:13

Funny, that; I think it's better.

honeylulu · 19/06/2026 10:20

I need to draw a family tree!
Who is Llyr and Megan's father (brother of Bryn)? I started off thinking it was the Philip Glenister character but he is Eve's father/Mabli's other grandfather.
I presume he's not in it but has that been explained ie is he dead?

moto748e · 19/06/2026 11:54

The bothers were Bryn and Alan. Alan is dead, isn't he?

Alan! Thank you. So Bryn and Alan were brothers but fell out when Alan went to work for Davies (Glenister). Bryn's son Rhys and Alan's son Llyr were cousins and best friends and Llyr died and Rhys went to prison.

Llyr's girlfriend was Eve Davies (the lecturer) and they had Mabli.

Llyr's sister was Megan, mother of Hari and is married to the cop.

So Mabli and Hari are second cousins as well as best friends. But Hari is having it off with her mother Eve.

Got it (I think)!

purpleme12 · 19/06/2026 13:53

But Rhys is saying that he was also getting it on with Eve when they were younger as well

And he thinks Mabli is his

I didn't know this was out. Will check it out. I loved Y Golau.

moto748e · 19/06/2026 18:45

That's the thing about Wales; everyone is related to everyone else...

Blondeshavemorefun · 19/06/2026 18:52

It’s good so far imo

I have watched first episode. Hasn’t gripped like first series. Very tempted to just skip to episode 6. I probably will as not able to concentrate much at the moment.

limetrees32 · 23/06/2026 07:43

If football wallcharts are ten a penny , you'd think we could have a family tree published somewhere.

purpleme12 · 23/06/2026 07:44

?

moto748e · 23/06/2026 10:25

Very tempted to just skip to episode 6.

How odd! I’ve never bothered to watch a last ep if I didn't care enough to watch middle episodes.

I have watched the start of a series - perhaps just 1 or 2 episodes and then watched the last episode to see what happens in the end if I haven’t enjoyed the first few episodes.
I will watch this through though.

Blondeshavemorefun · 23/06/2026 13:53

Pointless watching e6 but not say 345 as will miss vital plot info

I’ve decided to binge instead
fickle I know but so unwell I need to watch in one go as I cannot remember from week to week anymore. Last 2 to go.

moto748e · 24/06/2026 00:29

Still liking this a lot. Seems like she's called Eve for a reason! But there may be a twist in the tale yet.
