Couldn’t see a thread on this

I’ve seen it heavily advertised

Stars Nicola Walker, a woman whose mid twenties daughter has just shagged her best friend

Anyone going to watch? I love Nicola Walker

I will be watching!! Can’t wait

BillStickersIsInnocent · 08/06/2026 12:01

I was so keen to watch this as I love Jemaine Clement, Nicola Walker, and Joel Fry. The Guardian review today has put me off a bit. I’ve watched 2 episodes, I’m finding it very uncomfortable viewing for many reasons, but I guess that’s the point.

Rhodesbride · 08/06/2026 12:04

I’m half way through the first episode and I’m finding it uncomfortable.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 08/06/2026 12:37

Won’t be watching til later on but yes I’m very put off by the Guardian slating it

The Guardian review was savage wasn’t it? I’ll watch though, Nicola Walker is my fave actress. Look forward to chatting with you on here.

WinterFrogs · 08/06/2026 16:42

I'm going to watch. I love Nicola Walker and I enjoyed the interview with her and her co-star that I read 'somewhere'. But I'm expecting it to feel uncomfortable.

BillStickersIsInnocent · 08/06/2026 17:54

I’ve watched it all, I’ll be interested to discuss it once others have watched it. I don’t think the Guardian review was fair actually, and kind of missed the point perhaps.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 08/06/2026 17:57

I’m just starting now. I won’t be able to binge it I don’t think

Not fitting my mood so I’ve left it on one. May or may not go back.

Eeek I’m quite enjoying it! Haven’t read the Guardian review and like the actors in it. I do find him weirdly hot…

VivienneDelacroix · 08/06/2026 22:00

I love Nicola Walker. I'll start this later in the week, when I've finished Tip Toe.

hampsteadmum · 09/06/2026 00:53

I binged it all this evening. I must admit that (unusually) I disagree with the Guardian review. As a 50+ old mum with a 21 year old daughter (and 18 year old son) I went in with trepidation, fully expecting something toe-curling. Instead, I would describe the series as something meaning to challenge us. From that viewpoint, I think the series succeeded. Would I like to go through something similar with my daughter and family? Heck no. Did I enjoy watching it? For the most part, yes. There were some uncomfortable parts, but overall, I liked it.

Same here. Didn’t agree with Lucy Mangan in the Guardian . I liked Zoe Williams’ article, also in the Guardian, though.

BlondeFool · 09/06/2026 09:38

Guardian article is brutal. I might try it but the whole premise is ick to me (I have 23 and 21 year olds)

BillStickersIsInnocent · 09/06/2026 10:15

The premise is really ick and I’ve been thinking about what other event could precipitate such extreme destabilising of identity - which is what the point was I feel. I can’t really think of anything comparable, unfortunately, it either tips into illegal territory or something not as cataclysmic, which is probably why the writer chose this very specific transgression.

I think it was very perceptive, I can recognise all the emotions Alice was experiencing in the transitions of roles highlighted by the event - the loss of youth and opportunity at the same time as the flourishing of our children, the separation /loss of control as children grow and mature and head out into the world to make their own successes, or not. I mean she was totally unhinged at very many points of course in responding to those emotions, and it was excruciating to watch.

I thought Joel Fry was amazing in this too, in his quiet rebellion against the role Alice had decided for him (I’m the joyful one, you’re the steady one).

definitelybothered · 12/06/2026 20:48

Just started this and I also find it icky. Is Steve supposed to have known the daughter her whole life? As he and Alice are so close, you’d assume he would have been like an uncle to her. I’m finding this all a bit gross tbh and yes I know it’s fiction.

SapatSea · 12/06/2026 21:52

Gross

NerdyBird · 12/06/2026 23:25

Watched it today. I really wanted to like it as Nicola Walker is generally fab but it just didn’t work. It’s just so unlikely that the friend and daughter would fancy each other, especially as is mentioned later in the series, he knew her as a child. Zero chemistry between any of the characters, plot lines you can see a mile away and just overall ickyness. I was glad they didn’t have her going along with it though.

VivienneDelacroix · 12/06/2026 23:36

I'm two episodes in and I really like it. My 2 best friends are men I've known for 40 and 30 years and I can see Alice's point of view. Loved how she tried to show him up at the dinner party.

FourCatMama · 13/06/2026 00:18

I didn’t find it uncomfortable - just didn’t like it, as much as I love Nicola Walker.

notototo · 13/06/2026 08:57

I got totally confused when the son rang from the party and said ‘they’ had left and was by a bridge and I thought it was a group of people- I didn’t know what was going on at that point and it just lost me.

definitelybothered · 13/06/2026 09:25

As if the daughter would even be interested in 52 year old Steve. If they wanted to make it more believable they should have cast a more attractive actor. Plus he slept with her mum years ago WTAF. I watched 3 episodes but not sure I can continue with any more.

BillericayDickie · 13/06/2026 10:10

having seen an interview with Nicola and she said it was really funny.......it was not.
I didn't like that Alice's live unraveled, yet it was Steve that was in the wrong.
as someone said he would have known the daughter her whole life and been like an uncle. so it was really creepy.

definitelybothered · 13/06/2026 10:25

To me this show seemed to say yes straight men and straight women CAN be friends…. But that doesn’t mean he won’t fancy your 20-something year old daughter in the future despite decades of friendship.

McPancreas · 13/06/2026 13:06

Love most of the actors in this and they are brilliant in the show however the story/writing isn’t particularly believable and oddly paced.

The bit where he cracks up talking about hair styling and wins the friends over and they go upstairs to fool around was strange
