New 4 part drama starting this week - thriller

An unexpected inheritance has chilling consequences in this domestic thriller starring Eleanor Tomlinson as Amanda Blakefield, whose ordinary life is turned upside down when she's left a vast sum by a deceased man she's never heard of.

But the mystery legacy draws her into a bitter entanglement with a family whose past is full of shocking secrets.

Matthew Lewis also stars as Amanda's husband Jimmy, alongside Denis Lawson as the mysterious benefactor, Martin Worral while Rebecca Front is his widow, Fiona, and All Creatures star Call Woodhouse is their son, Anthony.

Look out for Paula Wilcox as Amandas mum Linda and Stephen Tomlinson as Boots

But why would he shoot man on boat and boots

Honestly I have no clue what's going to pan out in this and who's going to do it 😆

Meredusoleil · 06/06/2026 22:39

Anthony seems like an entitled spoilt private school brat to me. I reckon he would kill Boots to stop him telling Amanda everything. Also, less people to share any potential inheritance with if he gets his hands on it in the end!

Blondeshavemorefun · 07/06/2026 10:15

Tho also why change will to leave his family wife and son with nothing - that’s not the act of a loving man

and give it all to Amanda

rather then add her and share it 3 ways instead of 2

Yes. This is what I don't get either. It's as if he didn't really like his wife and son (and we can totally see why, as they both seem like money grabbing entitled snobs).

SorryWeAreClosed · 08/06/2026 22:59

They dropped in that the son was privately educated. Why such a broad accent then?

Blondeshavemorefun · 09/06/2026 12:59

E3 tonight

I’m watching ep3 now.

Husband and her boss definitely up to no good.

SorryWeAreClosed · 10/06/2026 08:39

I'll catch up with ep3 tomorrow. I'm waiting to start finding the plotline believable.
I don't think the immediate angst over finding out you've inherited money is the way people would feel. There'd surely be some initial excitement, but all the having to read letters in the bathroom is odd, unless you're partner is abusive. Maybe that's where it is going.

I'm loving the film location and scenery though.

butterpuffed · 10/06/2026 13:22

It's all getting a bit Channel 5ish . Starts off well and then gets unbelievable .

Martin's wife has been lying to her 'son', Boots too , Jimmy has something going on apart from with Amanda's best friend , Anthony's a bad 'un.

The only seemingly normal one is Amanda and she's falling to bits .

Doncha just love a Channel 5 drama 😅

Blondeshavemorefun · 10/06/2026 14:18

That’s about it @butterpuffed

so daddy’s firing blanks - can’t have kids

son/anthony is boots son

he killed his dad

Bit puzzled with the taxi driver /now with care home Amanda’s mum

who is her dad?

The taxi man who says money isn’t everything ?

is he Martins brother ?

he’s not even mentioned in the names in the op yet seems to have a big role

does he think she should get it all ?

How will this end tonight

OP posts:
Blondeshavemorefun · 10/06/2026 21:16

So taxi man wants her to take the money But why

why doesn’t he want wife and son to have it

did he have an affair with Linda

OP posts:
Meredusoleil · 10/06/2026 21:19

I'm so confused about all these similar looking older men 😕

MyGhastIsFlabbered · 10/06/2026 22:22

So that ended up quite tidily.

Blondeshavemorefun · 10/06/2026 23:16

Little confused. Doesn’t take me much 😂

so dead dad was bearded taxi man

they thought he was dead shot on a boat ?

so who did they shoot

still little confused how /why it was her fathers money rather then Martins money

and why it went to Amanda

did feel sorry for Fiona. She brings up another couples baby , knowing her dh paid off another man (think she knew) and then relieses her ‘son’ is a murdering selfish git who blows his brains out in front of her

wondering how much Amanda kept for Luke /her family and how much she gave to Fiona

poor boots

OP posts:
MyGhastIsFlabbered · 11/06/2026 06:54

It was a mannequin shot on the boat.

Martin stole Barry’s money then made a fortune with it so his fortune was gained through fraud.

Fiona wasn’t that nice - they could have split the fortune and each had plenty, but money turns people into arseholes. I’m glad her ‘son’ killed himself as he wasn’t a nice person at all.

I thought Amanda just gave Fiona the house.

just my thoughts.

Meredusoleil · 10/06/2026 21:19

Why do dramas always do this?! There needs to be a strict, different hair colour, different build, different skin colour casting law.

daffodilandtulip · 11/06/2026 08:09

Nice tidy ending but it all felt a bit pointless in the end.

BatchCookBabe · 11/06/2026 11:30

Bloody hell, that was a lot to take in, lots of different strands of storylines going on. Bit odd that Amanda's husband (Neville from Harry Potter) kept this wild secret from his wife, and conspired with her secret father who was alive all along. (When she thought he died years ago.) DH would have told me immediately if he had been approached by my dad who was actually alive after all!

No idea why Fiona's son killed himself. Bit odd. For all he knew, Amanda was about to give half the inheritance to him.

What was the point of Amanda's mate in the cafe? And why was she and Amanda's husband messaging each other back and forth and planning to meet? (And then didn't meet in the end anyway!) She seemed like a pointless character. I don't even feel like Amanda's little blonde son was needed as a character. All he did was sit playing video games and asking where his dad and his gran were.

I barely recognised actress Rebecca Front (who played Fiona.)

Quite hard to follow and a little bit bitty and messy IMO, but overall I'd give it 3 stars (out of 5.) Not brilliant, but also didn't feel like 4 hours of my life that I can never get back.

Umanresources · 11/06/2026 11:55

I don’t think I was that invested in this. Until I saw the recap I didn’t know that Amanda’s mum was missing. Then when I came on here at the end of the last programme I found that Boots’ son had shot himself. I must keep dozing off during these programmes!

EscapeTheCastle · 11/06/2026 14:05

Channel 5 dramas are so thin arn't they? Thin plot, sub soap level acting and very boring empty scenes. I did watch it all though!
One bit made me laugh. Near the seafront when the main character lost sight of her son for a few minutes and became panicked running around shouting and screaming out his name, meanwhile the only three extras the whole show employed carried on queuing for an icecream without even looking her way or helping.
