I think I've got a crush on DCI Gene Hunt

So I've just watched Life on Mars and I am now watching Ashes to Ashes which I think I am enjoying even more.
Somewhere along the lines I seem to have developed a crush on DCI Hunt.
He's very much of his time of course but he's actually really honest, loyal and cares about fighting criminals/evil. I guess he is firm but fair.

I find him very amusing to watch 'you're surrounded by armed bastards'

Did anyone else feel strangely attracted to him? I sort of miss more old fashioned men. I know that is really uncool to say that but so many men nowadays seem so feminine/unmanly.

Gene Hunt. Your DCI and it's 1973, almost dinner time. I'm 'aving hoops

... aaaand knickers melt

I remember men like him too, usually had a slightly sweaty smell from the polyester shirts. Didn't put me off though, I think its a pheromone thing rather than sweaty armpits. 🤣

Yuk! Never turned ne on then or now. I do have to add that there were plenty of liberal, hippy types who were pretty toxic too in their way tradwife, 'good woman' stuff.

Me too, along with D.I. Reagan in The Sweeny (Played by the wonderful John Thaw).

Lostsadandconfused · 17/05/2026 15:19

DCI Gene Hunt and Supt Ted Hastings from Line of Duty.

I was thrilled to see Adrian Dunbar in a small role in A2A as he’s my No.1 celeb crush.

Ooh yes. And Doyle (The Professionals). Martin Shaw ❤️

My absolute favourite crush is Gene Hunt! After it finished I was quite excited to watch Phillip Glennister in other programs but alas, it is only Gene I fancy, not the actor 😆

Hell yeah!

SirChenjins · 18/05/2026 21:57

Oh god yes! DH was like Confused but bloody hell he was sexy in that part.

GellerYeller · 18/05/2026 22:27

Loved Life on Mars and Ashes to Ashes, and especially Gene. The music, the nostalgia and the total lack of political correctness, with John Simm and Keeley Hawes failing-mostly-to rein them all in. Such a clever show.

Another recommendation for Mad Dogs from me too. Look out for Tiny Blair!!

Ponks · 18/05/2026 22:31

Have to watch this again now. I’m still in the queue for Gene Hunt 😂

MyGhastIsFlabbered · 18/05/2026 23:23

I’ve always had a crush on him. I didn’t know this was a bad thing!

Oh yes Adrian Dunbar was a bit of alright in Line of Duty wasn't he.

Well I've done series 2 now of Ashes to Ashes and about to start series 3. Still loving it. Will report back after series 3. Am loving Keeley Hawes as well and thankfully the young policewoman has got a better haircut in series 2. Loved her saving Chris at the end in her wedding frock and her gun. Girlpower!

He would be absolutely filthy.

Obsessed with Gene Genie! I’ve watched both series several times! My dad was a GMP detective and I asked was it like that in the 70s, he said no, it was worse 🤣 he absolutely loved it too!

wait til you get to the scene in Ashes to Ashes when he reems off several modern day boy bands in one sentence, and Alex’s reaction, absolutely brilliant!

I know I know. So many funny one liners from the Gene Genie.

Was watching clips on you tube and laughing at him shouting 'Come on Eileen, Come on Eileen' over and over at woman trying to give birth.

I fancied one of the others, Ray.

I thought Ray was yuk to look at and well a bit of a misogynist without Gene's charm.
However having googled him he is quite good looking in real life without the tash and daft hair so......
Also loved seeing his personality change towards the end of the show and of course once you have been through the whole series to the end you understand better the macho postering.

Yeah Adrian Dunbar is a bit of alright as well. Not so much the character, just him. First thought that when I watched Line of Duty. Course he played the hero/good guy in that so that increased his attractiveness.

So everyone I have finished the whole series. WTH. I don't want to say what happens for anyone who has not finished it yet but I did not see that coming.

Love the Gene Genie even more now!
I'm going have to go back and watch the whole series again now from Life on Mars. I bet I pick up lots of stuff I missed first time round.

For those who want a laugh / ogle here one of the clips on you tube.

Beat me to it. Jack Regan is impossible to top for sex appeal. But Gene Hunt is a close second.

I think it’s about rough-edged men who are nevertheless trustworthy and decent underneath.

I really liked the tash and daft hair 😀
He does look much better without it though.

Wasn’t he in one of the soaps for a while after A2A ended?
