MAFSAUS #22? The post-reunion. The men have emerged from the trenches with blacks belts in bullshit, fighting off flying pantyhose and ready to kiss even more trouts. Will Bec still be a mess? Will it all be too much for the baaaybe? DyanowaImean

Latest is that Jaqui is speaking out on incidents that happened in her year. No names mentioned. She wants to take it to Australian Human Rights.

Waqui's grasp on reality seems to be tenuous at best, but I wouldn't be surprised if there had been some incidents involving other people. They were trying to pressure Ryan, for example. What does she mean by 'australian human rights'?

murasaki · 20/05/2026 14:19

She has a point about the edits (given stuff they can't show) could very well lead to not being believed.

Jaqui was a target to come across as whacky. The public continued to like her, but the editors were not kind, she could have faced the public backlash. God knows what happened behind closed doors.

I've listened to a lot of the interviews on the Lara on Eyre podcast. It's shocking how badly the participants often get mis represented. In her latest podcast, she's interviewed Rebecca, Mel and Juliette who were very upset about how they were portrayed which ended up in horrid online trolling and Mel saying she had to go on anti depressants. They all regret going on the show. I love MAFS, but I think it's gone too far in its shameless quest for ratings and too many pp have suffered.

I'll miss all the chat with you lot tho, it was the best thing about it!

MargoLivebetter · 20/05/2026 15:28

I'm sure Rebecca, Mel and Juliette weren't happy with how they were portrayed, but how they behaved was there for all to see. Even if it was provoked in some way, it was still their behaviour and their words that we all saw coming out of their mouths.

What I'm struggling with, is the blurring of the boundaries between what is entertaining viewing and what is watching people be abused in some way or another. I think these kind of reality shows are open to exploiting vulnerable people. Rebecca, Mel and Juliette do not come across as vulnerable, but there have been some people on the shows who have come across as very open to being caught up in abusive relationships with toxic partners. This is the stuff that happens behind the scenes and it sounds as though it has not been as fully investigated, exposed, protected against as it should have been.

On the wedding night/honeymoon, don’t they usually get a suite with a couch in the living room? And some couples do sleep apart. On the recent Aus one, believe Mel/Luke, Brooke/Chris and Steph/Tyson didn’t share beds.

Yes you're right, sometimes they sleep in a separate space. But I think they should have completely separate hotel rooms/apartments. But maybe the budget doesn't stretch that far though. Along with the fact that the producers seem overly keen to get things moving with the couples.

Agree. It’s so wrong. Also a show like this will attract the dodgy guys.

The fee for appearing on the After The Dinner Party was alluded to in the final one last week - they'd asked Danny to come on, he gave radio silence and then said he wanted more £$£ which the two presenters said they hadn't agreed to. Nice little earner for the willing participants.

Oh it was paid! And here was me naively thinking they went out of the goodness of their hearts.

Milking every last drop. It’s weird cos I’d never watch Love Island but somehow the presence of the experts makes it appear more serious. But we’ve been hoodwinked.
