Here we are continuing to watch, chat about and admire Race Across The World 2026, Sicily to Mongolia. Everyone welcome!

Link to thread 1 is here https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/telly_addicts/5510122-race-across-the-world-2026?reply=15225883.]]

I'm sorry I've had to start this probably a little early as I'm not watching live tonight (got home very late from work).

Race Across The World 2026 | Mumsnet

Hooray! This is back for another series, starting Thursday. I just googled very quickly and they set off from Sicily and end the race in northern M...

The problem is we have no idea who that poster is or if that’s true. And frankly, some random anonymous poster making insinuations about a couple of 19 year olds about things that could have happened when they were literal children is a little gross.

This is true but it's also true that we know nothing about the true characters of any of the participants. How they behave in a competition like this is not an indication of if they are "lovely" or not.

You must have missed the poster who wrote about how one of these boys bullied her friend in school.

You again! 🙈. You must be seriously twisted to be so obsessively slagging off two young lads you know nothing about. They're on a TV entertainment show and have done nothing offensive yet people being nice about them or saying they like them makes you venomous. Maybe have a think about why that is.....or see a doctor

LindorDoubleChoc · 22/05/2026 11:34

Although they weren't my favourites I did feel rather gutted for Molly and Daddy when they realised they were in the wrong place, especially after that nauseating taxi ride! I honestly thought Molly was going to barf, poor woman.

I got a bit distracted by John Hannah saying that they were in the coldest capital city in the world when they got to Ullanbaatar. Cue much googling of capital cities and considering how northern Mongolia isn't even that northerly when you look at the map. It looks like all of Canada, the UK, Sweden, Norway and Finland, most of Russia and even parts of Japan are further north although I know the printed world map can be very deceptive. Anyway, my socks were knocked off by that.

Not only did they not show Mark and Margo arriving at the final check point, they also didn't show how they arrived at the hotel at the start of the episode. It was all explained away by "taxi rides" Hmm. But I'm so pleased they made it, there would have been a much sadder feeling to the series, which was otherwise really positive and thrilling.

I loved Katie and Harrison and felt a wee bit sorry for them. But the lads were also very likeable and worthy winners. I'm going to miss RATW and this thread Sad. Hopefully see you all next year!

The aussie guy wouldn't have known which homestay they had chosen would he. Molly and Andrew showed him on the map which one it was and he booked the driver. Absolute lol that its a big conspiracy theory by the production team to send them to the wrong place.

I think he did. They had the booklet with the home stays listed out when asking him.

If they had gone to the right one they would have won by a day

skilpadde · 22/05/2026 12:02

@LindorDoubleChoc It’s the coldest capital city because of its altitude as well as its latitude.

Ah, but most people know that we don’t need to go nosing through people’s childhoods looking for reasons to justify disliking them because they were on TV. Not being able to comb through their diaries shouldn’t really matter.

Did you miss the poster who said her DD was at school with one of them and he was one of the few boys she actually liked?

Stopsnowing · 22/05/2026 10:12

I found the tour guide a bit glib about it - he must have know that there are many towns with the same name so he could have double checked.

There was actually a cutaway to the booklet (Molly was holding it ) and it definitely said the correct one in it. He told them there were lots of them and checked which one they wanted. Then it cut to a map and John Hannah explaining all the different ones so the mishap was telegraphed!

Do you think that the programme makers would deliberately sabotage contestants, when there's £20k.at stake?
Seriously?

I very much doubt it

SnappyUmberLion · 22/05/2026 13:19

Given that there so many places with the same name, and the stakes were so high, the onus was on Molly and her dad to be absolutely certain they were going to the correct one before they set off.

I also liked that Jo is going to Senegal to trace his roots.
That would be a good tv show.

I love Senegal, so I may finally have warmed to Jo at least! 😁

And the effects of continentality

My thoughts, too.

sunflowersintheday · 22/05/2026 13:39

KeyLimeCake · 22/05/2026 10:46

Yes

Well that would undermine the whole programme and they would risk an exposé and a lawsuit.

trendingup · 22/05/2026 13:47

Up until the error from Molly/Daddy I spent most of the programme feeling sorry for Jo and Kush and thinking they'd been a bit stitched up. The two different routes were billed as "rural and risky but direct" Vs "out of the way but major cities with great transport options" and it turned out that the cities actually had basically no transport options and they went hundreds of km out of their way and then were equally dependent on taxis. And it wasn't just that they were unlucky and just missed connections, the transport options were basically non-existant.

If it wasn't for Molly/Daddy's error they would have beaten Jo and Kush by a whole day and I think that's unfair when Jo and Kush did everything they could but there was no way that route could be done faster. I thought that the major city route was the sensible option so felt for them.

trendingup · 22/05/2026 13:48

Also, after someone else on this thread mentioned it I checked Molly's Instagram and in her latest post about RATW she mentions the Aussie host twice in the caption both times saying they shouldn't have trusted him/he led them astray. So they obviously feel the blame 100% lies with him and she's clearly still a bit angry about it!

I don't blame her - they were in a really good position to win.

True, and I liked Molly but because Daddy was a prick, I’m not sorry they didn’t.

I’d warmed to Jo, it was Kush who spoiled their pairing for me.

I wondered if he had deliberately sent them the wrong way to make more money for his taxi friend

It was certainly very odd.

Yes

Well, they are not allowed to (by law) where there is money at stake - so you are wrong.

I got the impression his hotel was of good quality and well-run. He would have known that he was being filmed by the BBC. I’d be surprised if he’d jeopardise his reputation just so his pal could make some extra money.

Yes, it must just have been an unfortunate mistake.

BillericayDickie · 22/05/2026 16:22

shame though as maybe they would have won. must be gutting for them.
