Based on Sally Hepworth's bestselling novel, The Family Next Door follows Isabelle (Teresa Palmer), a seemingly haunted woman who moves to an idyllic cul-de-sac in Osprey Point.

Confronted with a strange mystery, Isabelle begins to suspect that her new neighbours aren't who they claim to be, unravelling a web of lies, secrets and deceptions in the process.

And rather than befriend her new neighbours, she ruffles more than a few feathers as her suspicious eye falls on everyone!

Isabelle who moves into a small seaside cul-de-sac where her obsessive drive to solve a mystery casts suspicion on four neighbouring families.

We get to know other members of the community – including Fran (Ming-Zhu Hii), Essie (Philippa Northeast), Lulu (Jane Harber) and Holly (Maria Angelico), who periodically gather on foldout chairs in the cul-de-sac to sip wine – and learn of a controversial property development project Ange is leading, which has created backlash over concerns about its environmental impact.

Early on, Ange meets a spooked investor who wants out – but she talks him around, buying herself some time.

Her quest to reunite one family will have consequences for them all."

Finished it all now. It did pick up by episode 4, and was pretty good overall. (Once I realised what was going on!)

It really bugged me though, how the woman who was kidnapped as a child (Essie) always looked she was confused, annoyed, and about to burst into tears! 😂😩

Anyway, that aside, it was decent after all, but it's a shame that Isabelle (the one who went looking for her sister) didn't end up getting a relationship with her. Essie just wanted her to leave her alone.

A happy ending for no-one really. It feels like Isabelle threw a bomb into Essie's life for nothing

I don't understand why she was looking for birth certificates if young kids and where they were born?

I really thought that although it was criminal and horrific taking a baby, it was not any good for anyone to involve the police. I was surprised when they turned up at the end. I can understand the sister wanting no relationship it would have been totally confusing at this stage. Once the ‘mother’ has been prosecuted for it there would be no chance of a relationship.
This woman literally turned up in this cul de sac and blew up everyone’s lives!

But then again in two Australian Tele programmes it's had a woman called Reggie as well which we would say was a boys name

But it felt like justice to Isabelle that the police were finally aware of who took her sister and could do something

Yep and prob the blame went from her from a child

I like that it was solved, but it feels like everyone’s life is now ruined and she just walks away. I think it was worth watching in the end, just a bit slow.

I thought it was gripping

I really felt for Isabelle when it was revealed what it was all really about and the effect it clearly had on her

Late to the party but I really enjoyed it. I thought the actress who played the uptight Ange was brilliant.

Me too. I thought Essie was horrible about it all at the end. I get that it blew up her life but thought she’d have more compassion for all the years of suffering Isabelle had been through. So I was glad Isabelle called the police. It was like a ‘well, fuck you too, then!’ to Essie. After she’d been rejected by her she owed her nothing.

even later to the party, really enjoyed this and glad I stuck with it….ep 3 & 4 I was so confused! And Barb should be punished for taking the baby, when you think of the pain on Isabelle’s mum, dad and herself. Good telly.
