'Full of shocking reveals': hit Aussie mystery-drama The Family Next Door is your next 'gripping' binge watch
The new series is coming to ITV – and it's perfect for fans of Big Little Lies

Searching for your next binge watch? Look no further. Australian mystery-drama The Family Next Door is a twist-filled ride where nothing's as it seems. Critically acclaimed, the six-part series won rave reviews after debuting Down Under last year

Based on Sally Hepworth's bestselling novel, The Family Next Door follows Isabelle (Teresa Palmer), a seemingly haunted woman who moves to an idyllic cul-de-sac in Osprey Point.

Confronted with a strange mystery, Isabelle begins to suspect that her new neighbours aren't who they claim to be, unravelling a web of lies, secrets and deceptions in the process.

And rather than befriend her new neighbours, she ruffles more than a few feathers as her suspicious eye falls on everyone!

"The Family Next Door is a funny and authentic portrayal of suburban life and exploration of motherhood, underpinned by a compelling mystery," said ABC Head of Scripted, Rachel Okine (via Screen Australia (https://www.screenaustralia.gov.au/sa/media-centre/news/2024/11-21-family-next-door-abc)).

Isabelle who moves into a small seaside cul-de-sac where her obsessive drive to solve a mystery casts suspicion on four neighbouring families.

We get to know other members of the community – including Fran (Ming-Zhu Hii), Essie (Philippa Northeast), Lulu (Jane Harber) and Holly (Maria Angelico), who periodically gather on foldout chairs in the cul-de-sac to sip wine – and learn of a controversial property development project Ange is leading, which has created backlash over concerns about its environmental impact.

Early on, Ange meets a spooked investor who wants out – but she talks him around, buying herself some time.

Her quest to reunite one family will have consequences for them all."

Biggesr load of shite ever. It's worse than a Ch 5.production, didn"t think that was possible. The background music was beyond dire and the acting reminded me of 1980s neighbours..but worse.

Blondeshavemorefun · 19/05/2026 17:41

I’m really enjoying it

We are on episode 2 and quite enjoying it. I find the lighting to be a bit strange though, very yellow.

I’m another Lisa Jewell fan as well and The Night she Disappeared would be a great show.

Ah. Seen no 5 as won’t manage to stay up late tonight

making sense now and still very good

Oh I’m so behind on this! Seen the first two. It’s very channel 5 vibes but I’m intrigued.

Hmmmm, not sure if I'd say it's 'shite' but it's not great IMO. I am struggling to stay with it. I'm two thirds of the way through episode 3, and I'm not sure if I can be bothered to watch the rest. I suppose it's only another 3 episodes so I may as well.

I still can't figure out what it's about really, or why the blonde woman (the journo?) is spying on the family next door? Who are all these people in it (all these different women) and why does the journo want to spy on them all?

Maybe I''m missing something... Possibly not paying attention because I'm struggling to get into it.

I’ve been paying attention but still can’t answer your questions!

You find out more in e4 I think

Thank you @FrankieMcGrath and @Blondeshavemorefun ! I will finish episode 3 this morning, and watch episode 4 tonight!

Zov · 21/05/2026 08:42

I have to say though, what kind of name is ELVIS for a girl? Confused

Blondeshavemorefun · 21/05/2026 09:07

I don’t think that’s her real name. It’s a nickname

Where are you up to onTV pace. I have finished and wanted to discuss the ending.
