Ha ha yes! I lived in the US for a year and it was normal to travel 40-50 miles to pick up a favourite dessert!

Whereas here I work with people who won't drive 14 miles to the next town because it involves a motorway and is a whole 30 minute drive.

The city of Adelaide itself is only about 25,000 people. Loads more in ‘greater Adelaide’.

I live in a place of 120,000 people and when I was single and on the dating scene I’d honestly say I knew (at least by sight or first name) the majority of the people on the social scene in the same age group and demographic (by which I mean we were going to the same fairly nice bars, I’m sure there were others in the pubs or home at house parties). In fact for a time the single Ladies would exchange notes on Tinder matches, as no doubt anyone you matched with someone else already would have. My now DH was about my only match that none of my friends knew, although it transpired we did have a few acquaintances in common, and a colleague of mine had known him for years.
