We saw the current London version of The Producers this week - it was pretty good!

Onebattleafteramother · 28/03/2026 21:14

I'm also watching, then the walsh sisters

stonkytonk11 · 28/03/2026 21:14

Saw Alexandra Burke when she was in The Bodyguard musical…she’s got a fantastic voice!

I really want to see it, don't care which Pilate.

I need to check the list. Avoiding Boy George.

Because I’m a miserable cow and couldn’t cope with the whole filming and singing along. Plus it was full of regulars so I was really awkward going up to get a drink at the onstage bar and didn’t know what we were meant to do.

I've just googled how the show works and it sounds horrific. I'm sure some will love it but that would be my idea of hell.

AlcoholicAntibiotic · 28/03/2026 21:18

I’ve just looked at the prices for JCS over summer - top price tickets for the dates I looked at are £395 😱

Silverbirchleaf · 28/03/2026 21:18

Saw ‘Choir of Man’ in London a few years ago. One of those shows which you describe as ‘good fun’.

Also seen Alexandra Burke live who was superb.

i didn’t go on the stage and felt out of place.

I've just clicked on 'book tickets' and was put in a queue. Bleddy telly!

I want to take my dd to see Paddington but the tickets are painfully expensive, even the crap seats are over £100.

You should be able to get some cheaper if you book a very very long way in advance. Or at least you could. Just checked there are some £25 tickets for February 27.

Blimey, that was quick! Anyone else flipping to BBC2 for show tunes?

Yes, and it’s much better than the BBC1 show!

I’d advise avoiding Julian Clary too. Terrible Herod.

I left midway and cried in the loos I was so stressed out 😳 not my finest hour

JustGiveMeReason · 28/03/2026 21:48

Ooh, thanks for the thread.
I hadn't seen this was on.

Will have to pick it up on iPlayer.

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 28/03/2026 22:02

We booked tickets for JCS before the Herods were announced so it was pot luck which one we got! However, quite happy to get Boy George. Just relieved not to get Layton Williams as not a fan of his. Trying to imagine Richard Armitage in the role and not quite succeeding 😅

Hair now, Age of Aquarius

dapsnotplimsolls · 28/03/2026 22:23

I've never seen Hair live but saw the film years ago when it was on telly.

Although I loved him on the Paul Merton room 101 radio show. We saw that recorded live and he was a grat guest.

I generally really like Julian Clary, but he is a terrible singer!

InWithThePlums · 29/03/2026 04:18

I really enjoyed The Producers on the West End. There is a very limited number of songs from it you could put in this show- Springtime for Hitler would need a lot of contextualising!

OlderGlaswegianLivingInDevon · 29/03/2026 11:13

@Girliefriendlikespuppies

Once upon a time London Theatreland used to do a Children's week, in August ? and the idea was that several shows would offer really good priced tickets for children ( and their families ) to encourage children to go / be taken to the theatre.

I have no idea if this still happens, but thought I would add to this thread incase anyone else knows up to date info on this....

Miranda65 · 29/03/2026 11:21

The problem with this TV show is that it's not possible to show the big production numbers with huge sets etc.
The Producers is an utterlly brilliant musical, but the obvious song to feature is 'Springtime for Hitler'.
Ditto 'Superstar' from JCS.
It would also make sense to have a number with the actual bear from Paddington.
But none of them are practical as part of a show where you get 5 minutes per musical.
There is also a tendency to rely on weak jukebox musicals.
(And I just loathe Wicked, though I accept that it's popular, for reasons I don't understand).
So, overall, a TV show meant to promote musicals is actually very underwhelming!
