CLASSIC CORRIE THREAD. Now in March 2008.

SabreIsMyFave · 04/03/2026 19:53

Wow soooo much has happened since the last thread was started - almost a year ago... We were in June 2006, and now we're in March 2008.

Keith was still in the street then, (who was dating Audrey,) and had just been booted out of his house by Charlie Stubbs. Now Charlie is dead after being killed by TracyLuv who is in prison now, and is never seen!

Les Battersby left in 2007 after going to work as a roadie with a band.

Ronnie was in it (Steve's girlfriend at the time) and was trying to set Steve up for a hit and run she had done. And Lloyd had just joined. Streetcars.

Mike Baldwin had just died. (Early 2006.)

Leanne Battersby and Mike's son Danny Baldwin were still together (after he left his wife Frankie for Leanne.). And in late 2006 Danny's son Jamie Baldwin (who was dating barmaid Violet Wilson) started having an affair with Danny's ex - wife Frankie... (His stepmum!) Obviously Violet finished with him.

Now Jamie has just left the street with Violet, (after they made it up,) with a baby she has had with Sean Tully. (Sean and Violet were platonic friends.) Sean is distraught that they have left, and he doesn't know where they've gone.

Janice and Cilla were at each others throats, but now Cilla has gone - to live in Las Vegas, leaving poor Chesney with Kirk and Fiz.

Amber had just arrived back then - Dev's daughter, and now she's part of the furniture!

Ashley was fighting for the right to keep Joshua after his bio dad Matt said he wants him. They had a court order for Matt to have access, but Matt has hardly been seen since!

Poor old Fred Elliot has died! (October 2006.) He was just about to marry Shelley's mum Bev too. Ashley's butcher shop is starting to have problems. (Financially.) Bev and Shelley are no longer on the street.

And now we have Tina McIntrye who only came into Corrie a few weeks ago, and is with David Platt, and currently pregnant by him!

The Mortons joined not long ago, and have the kebab shop, and new owners of the bookies have surfaced. Father and son. (Harry and Dan.) Both currently sort of dating Kelly Crabtree and her long legs! But Dan is starting to have eyes for Leanne.

Jason and Sarah got married in late 2007, but it didn't last long, after Jason saw Sarah as spoilt and selfish, and uncaring (after her brother David ran his car into the canal and she only cared about her wedding.) David was offered a job with his uncle Stephen (In Milan,) and Sarah tricked Stephen into thinking David was a drug addict, and she had the job instead! (David had had some drugs a little while back that Bethany had accidently eaten, so Stephen believed Sarah.) Jason and Sarah have now split and Sarah is now living in Milan with uncle Stephen, and she's taken Bethany with her!

Vera Duckworth died very suddenly just a few weeks ago, leaving Jack devastated. His grandson Paul - and Molly and Tyrone have been consoling him. Although Paul did just steal £3000 off Jack via a betting slip that Jack had lost and Paul found. So he takes after his father - Terry!

Big Jim McDonald came back after trying to stop Elizabeth (his ex wife Liz) from marrying Vernon. The slightly-annoying-and-ever-so-bonkers-but-still-nice-and-stable musician she has been dating for a while (on and off!) They were dating for a while, then Liz had an affair with Derek - Newton and Ridley delivery man! That was quite short lived and Vernon forgave her and Liz and Vernon got married in December 2007.

Rosie Webster has had a fling with her teacher, John Stape - who was dating Fiz! That caused a big furore, as Kevin hit John, and then went to jail for 2 weeks for it.

Roy Cropper just got back from Mozambique where he has been visiting his wife Hayley who is a volunteer out there.

Maria is pregnant by Liam Connor, and Liam's sister in law Carla is jealous and has tried to come between them. Liam got hurt on a recent trip to the Lake District with Maria, and called out Carla's name when he was drifting in and out oof conciousness! Despite this Maria still agreed to marry Liam!

Oh, and Leanne is getting bored running her restaurant! And Chesney is starting to really struggle at home with no mother or father there.

Probably much more that I have missed out.

Wonder where we'll all be at when this thread ends?! Grin

Poor Maria has been driven to madness by Carla's scheming and Liam couldn't seem to see that. There was hope when he threw her out with the words 'can't you just leave us alone'. But Maria carried on berating him and it became a self-fulfilling prophesy. They had better script writers back then. Modern day Corrie writers would have made a right bugger of this story.

Poor Maria and Liam. Awful Carla, hanging around when they wanted to be alone, like a big black raven of doom.

I literally said to DH when we were watching earlier, if Carla was a bird she woukd be a raven! Shock As she was flitting around and stalking them, I said 'be gone Raven Woman!' Funny I'm not the only one who thought it. 😆

As has been said, Carla is horrible, jumping in and taking advantage! And now she and Liam are going to spend the night together. FFS! I'm fewmin! Angry

My husband who obviously doesn't watch classic or current commented that it's amazing how Carla was so man obsessed to organising a gay wedding.
She's awful.

SabreIsMyFave · 09/04/2026 23:04

Also, I see Natasha - Sam's mum - has come into Corrie now. (She's working at Audrey's salon.)

She really is awful @eggandonion I don't remember her being like this! She has form for being a bit snitty and mardy, but not horrible, and cruel.

I know. It doesn't add up. Of all the women on The Street, Carla would be the least likely to become same sex attracted.

I thought this. I know it's been known for someone to 'come out' in middle age (50-60,) after spending many years with someone of the opposite sex, but it's normally someone who has been married some years to the same partner. (Maybe 30+ years.) Not a woman who was a sexy siren, had quite a few different blokes, and a tumultuous Burton-Taylor kind of thing with one of them for some years (Peter Barlow.) Suddenly fancying a woman at around 48 was really odd IMO, and I'm glad I'm not the only one to think it.

@SabreIsMyFave I might have said this on the Corrie thread as well but I would have preferred Carla and Lisa to have a strong female friendship like Corrie was based on plus there was no inkling that Carla even liked women or been with women

SabreIsMyFave · 10/04/2026 17:43

100% agree @JewelleryCat and I think a few more posters said something similar.

Friends would have been good . Like Liz and Deirdre. I knew a woman whose husband left her once their kids were finished education. He was a sort of Ken type. She moved on to a relationship with a woman. But she hadn't had assorted relationships with assorted men.As far as I know!

Flowertrees · 09/04/2026 20:37

I’m confused, I can only find one episode shown yesterday and that ended when Maria arrived at the funeral. I seem to be missing one of the actual funeral

@Flowertrees yes same here. I watched the funeral and then realised I'd missed an episode, it is available on the ITV X app. I watched it after, so not in the correct order.

Middlemarch123 · 11/04/2026 18:34

Sorry to be picky, but this really bugs me; I’ve organised two funerals, and the undertaker needs the death certificate before they can organise the funeral. Perhaps things have changed, but how did the funeral take place before collecting the death certificate?

Doy · 12/04/2026 07:53

@Middlemarch123 this struck me too, how absurd. From my experience you get a certificate of stillbirth not a death certificate. This is provided by the midwife and you take it to the register office and then you name the baby officially and then you have the funeral.

And how did the funeral take place so quickly?
It was nearly a month between my mums death and her funeral last year
Maybe it was quicker 18 years ago
But i still remember waiting 2/3 weeks afer both my Grandmothers died on the early 2000,s untill their funerals.

thecatdidit · 12/04/2026 13:00

The issue of a burial before registering the death bugged me, too. Also I don't understand why baby Paul wasn't classified as a stillbirth 😟.

I thought he was classified as a still birth ?

thecatdidit · 12/04/2026 13:07

Oh I can't recall whether Maria said she was off to register baby Paul's birth ( sad even talking about this, but you do have to register a stillbirth)

Would she not have got both certificates
Like sarah did when Billy died ?
Although i think Billy was born alive and lived for a very short time?

thecatdidit · 12/04/2026 13:13

Oh this is outside my wheelhouse, sorry I don't know the answer in Paul's case
In Billy's case he would have had to be registered for birth and death as he lived for a short while.
Sorry to be discussing such a distressing subject.

PlattyCat · 12/04/2026 16:00

My aunt’s death was unexpected, so we received a letter from the hospital allowing us to bury her without a death certificate. They couldn’t issue the certificate until the cause of death was confirmed, and there was a backlog at the coroner’s office. She died in February, was buried in March, and her death wasn’t officially registered until September.

This was just two years ago.

Middlemarch123 · 12/04/2026 17:59

This is a sad subject. My dad died unexpectedly five years ago. The coroner was lovely when I spoke to him, but explicitly explained that because a PM was required to ascertain cause of death, I had to wait for this which would be added to the death certificate. He told me to make contact with the funeral director, but not plan the funeral date. The undertaker said this was normal procedure.

Sorry to all of you who have suffered bereavement x💐

Back to moaning about Corrie, Maria actress is poor, think she had storylines too big for her in the early days. And Gail blinking and simpering with her new Father Ted irritates. Yes Carla’s a nasty piece of work. Does our Liz with the new twisty curls end up with the bookie?

eggandonion · 12/04/2026 18:13

I have zero recollection of the bookies.
I quite like Gail's dad but shes annoying!

SabreIsMyFave · 14/04/2026 16:43

Yeah @Middlemarch123 I am finding Gail simpering over Ted (her bio father) quite jarring and annoying. If I had never known my father, and he came into my life when I was 50, no way would I be calling him 'dad' so quickly, if ever.... It's just really odd IMO.

I would be courteous and pleasant with him, especially as he didn't know of my existence, (til I was 50,) and would happily meet up with him maybe every 3 weeks or so for a coffee or something. But having him be part of my family straight away, and calling him 'dad' almost immediately, would not happen. And Gail taking him to see David was bizarre. That whole scene was odd IMO. (I do like Ted though........)

Agree about Maria's acting too. I don't think she is a bad actress, but I don't think she is really good. She is a bit annoying ... And it's so irritating how she keeps sighing and breathing heavy after every bloody line she speaks! I really like Becky now and think she is a good actress, and she is funny too. The way she and Roy bounce off one another is enjoyable to watch. Smile
