CLASSIC CORRIE THREAD. Now in March 2008.

SabreIsMyFave · 04/03/2026 19:53

Wow soooo much has happened since the last thread was started - almost a year ago... We were in June 2006, and now we're in March 2008.

Keith was still in the street then, (who was dating Audrey,) and had just been booted out of his house by Charlie Stubbs. Now Charlie is dead after being killed by TracyLuv who is in prison now, and is never seen!

Les Battersby left in 2007 after going to work as a roadie with a band.

Ronnie was in it (Steve's girlfriend at the time) and was trying to set Steve up for a hit and run she had done. And Lloyd had just joined. Streetcars.

Mike Baldwin had just died. (Early 2006.)

Leanne Battersby and Mike's son Danny Baldwin were still together (after he left his wife Frankie for Leanne.). And in late 2006 Danny's son Jamie Baldwin (who was dating barmaid Violet Wilson) started having an affair with Danny's ex - wife Frankie... (His stepmum!) Obviously Violet finished with him.

Now Jamie has just left the street with Violet, (after they made it up,) with a baby she has had with Sean Tully. (Sean and Violet were platonic friends.) Sean is distraught that they have left, and he doesn't know where they've gone.

Janice and Cilla were at each others throats, but now Cilla has gone - to live in Las Vegas, leaving poor Chesney with Kirk and Fiz.

Amber had just arrived back then - Dev's daughter, and now she's part of the furniture!

Ashley was fighting for the right to keep Joshua after his bio dad Matt said he wants him. They had a court order for Matt to have access, but Matt has hardly been seen since!

Poor old Fred Elliot has died! (October 2006.) He was just about to marry Shelley's mum Bev too. Ashley's butcher shop is starting to have problems. (Financially.) Bev and Shelley are no longer on the street.

And now we have Tina McIntrye who only came into Corrie a few weeks ago, and is with David Platt, and currently pregnant by him!

The Mortons joined not long ago, and have the kebab shop, and new owners of the bookies have surfaced. Father and son. (Harry and Dan.) Both currently sort of dating Kelly Crabtree and her long legs! But Dan is starting to have eyes for Leanne.

Jason and Sarah got married in late 2007, but it didn't last long, after Jason saw Sarah as spoilt and selfish, and uncaring (after her brother David ran his car into the canal and she only cared about her wedding.) David was offered a job with his uncle Stephen (In Milan,) and Sarah tricked Stephen into thinking David was a drug addict, and she had the job instead! (David had had some drugs a little while back that Bethany had accidently eaten, so Stephen believed Sarah.) Jason and Sarah have now split and Sarah is now living in Milan with uncle Stephen, and she's taken Bethany with her!

Vera Duckworth died very suddenly just a few weeks ago, leaving Jack devastated. His grandson Paul - and Molly and Tyrone have been consoling him. Although Paul did just steal £3000 off Jack via a betting slip that Jack had lost and Paul found. So he takes after his father - Terry!

Big Jim McDonald came back after trying to stop Elizabeth (his ex wife Liz) from marrying Vernon. The slightly-annoying-and-ever-so-bonkers-but-still-nice-and-stable musician she has been dating for a while (on and off!) They were dating for a while, then Liz had an affair with Derek - Newton and Ridley delivery man! That was quite short lived and Vernon forgave her and Liz and Vernon got married in December 2007.

Rosie Webster has had a fling with her teacher, John Stape - who was dating Fiz! That caused a big furore, as Kevin hit John, and then went to jail for 2 weeks for it.

Roy Cropper just got back from Mozambique where he has been visiting his wife Hayley who is a volunteer out there.

Maria is pregnant by Liam Connor, and Liam's sister in law Carla is jealous and has tried to come between them. Liam got hurt on a recent trip to the Lake District with Maria, and called out Carla's name when he was drifting in and out oof conciousness! Despite this Maria still agreed to marry Liam!

Oh, and Leanne is getting bored running her restaurant! And Chesney is starting to really struggle at home with no mother or father there.

Probably much more that I have missed out.

Wonder where we'll all be at when this thread ends?! Grin

Liam will be upset he didn't get to hold his baby, I know it's a soap but in what world would the mother not tell her husband about the devastating loss?

Yeah, this. ^ I also feel so sorry for Liam, and don't think I know a single woman alive who would have kept this from her husband. It may be OK in a situation where a woman is dating a man, (not living together/not married) and has only been with him for say, 6 months... But even then, it seems a bit odd to keep it from the father, and just do it all yourself.

DH and I were saying this, it seems a bit of a batshit storyline. If I was Liam I would never forgive Maria for this, and wouldn't be able to move on. But we know they have another baby, because Liam junior is in it now. So they must stay together.

I have to agree though, that Maria having to give birth to a dead baby was heartbreaking and traumatic.

Yes, I know Maria is all jealous over Carla and I don’t remember Carla acting like this at all, it’s all for fun or something but you would definitely tell your husband something is wrong with the baby and that you’d need to give birth and knowing it’s still born would mess with your mind

CherryogDog · 04/04/2026 11:43

I think maybe Maria can't process her emotions about the still birth so she's projecting all her hurt and anger onto the Liam staying at Carla's scenario. I don't think she withheld it to punish him deliberately.

Re Ashley having no money. Didn’t Fred buy the house for Ashley and Maxine when he thought she was pregnant but she’d just bought a cat? It’s why he also felt enabled to move in with them?

ah well at least its getting Sally her conservatory

He bought the house when he married maureen and when that' all went wrong Ashley moved in he had Zoe and Nick and leanne living there at one point
There was a scene though a while back where Clur, had a phone call and confirmed they had a mortgage, which surprised me becsuse Fred was wealthy I assumed Ashley inherited all of Fred's assets?

SabreIsMyFave · 07/04/2026 22:55

I am also baffled at Clurr and Ashleh having a mortgage, as I also thought the house was paid for.

OP posts:
CherryogDog · 07/04/2026 22:58

I thought the house was paid for. Did Fred own the Rovers when he died? I thought there was some dispute with the will from Bev.

Yes he did
I dont think Bev actually got anything from Fred's will because he died before they got married?
It was when Clur, was receiving silent phone calls from Casey
There was a scene where a telesales company phoned and she said yes we do have a mortgage
It made me think maybe the writers had forgotten the background to Ashleh, owning the house ?
It didnt make much sense.

OnTheBoardwalk · 08/04/2026 07:47

Thanks @x2boys I still don’t know what’s going on 😁

if Fred owned the house then surely he would have had some life insurance that would have paid off the balance? Houses were cheap as lamb chops back then, especially for someone who was a multiple business owner

is this the start of the silly stories in classic corrie?

You would have thought?
And yes he had seversl business, s and a large house somewhere else ,there would have been more reason for him to need a Mortgage
I also cant understand how Ashleh and Clur have got into so much debt ,his Butcher shop has been established a few years snd decent Butchers usually have good trade
Plus the proceeds for when he sold the Rovers?

JewelleryCat · 08/04/2026 16:46

Julie is so annoying

JewelleryCat · 08/04/2026 16:46

Yes what was she like sobbing away like that
That was very sad poor Maria and Liam😥😥

OnTheBoardwalk · 08/04/2026 18:45

So Clur loses her big house, garden for the boys and the conservatory for just £25k (before fees and moving costs) makes no sense what so ever

Well I don't think there will be many expenses?
I thought that was the point of the swap ,Sally and Kevin would just pay the difference in the cost of the house?
Having said ,£25,000
Is still a fair amount of money not something i would think Sally and Kevin can easily pluck out of thin air
I love how they gloss over these things

OnTheBoardwalk · 08/04/2026 20:36

I’m well too over invested in this ridiculous storyline

I was thinking solicitor fees and moving fees. I wasn’t watching at the time but can imagine a stupid to me to you story as they are passing all the furniture across the street

Sal and Kev should have massive equity, if any mortgage at all, on the house they only paid, what £20k, all those years ago

argh this stupid story winds me up. No wonder Sal still looks smug when talking about her conservative, she practically stole it off Clur

OnTheBoardwalk · 08/04/2026 20:43

I did luv Clur's face when 'the girls' came rushing in to check out their new bedrooms

Well thats another thing Kev said the house has gone up nearly 4 times the value they paid for it as I recall they bought it off Hilda Ogden in around 1986 what would grotty little terraces in a backstreet in Salford be worth in 1986? ,I think it would be considerably less than £20,000
My parents bought their 4 bedroom, two reception rooms, two bathroom house with a Massive garden in a very nice area for £36,000
I think they sold their smaller but still in a very nice are 3 bedroom semi for £22,000 to afford the bigger house in 1985.j

OnTheBoardwalk · 08/04/2026 20:59

Argh @x2boys don’t be putting more questions into my head

all this storyline does (apart from wind me up) is make me really understand why Sal goes on about her conservatory she robbed from dippy Clur

like Ashley said I hope we don’t have loads of boring stories about the boys falling over in the back yard over Clurs flowerpots

I think this MAY be the start of the silly stories in Corrie, and forgetting about things that have happened previously.

Also, Ashley and Clurr moving into a tiny mid terraced house with almost zero garden, and only half the room makes zero sense. They've got 2 children?! Who would downsize when they've got 2 small children? Anyone I have ever known who was struggling financially sold up and moved into a less desirable area. Not rough, but not as nice as where they were living. Eg, a friend of mine moved from a small 2 bed semi on a little late 1980s built private estate, into a large 4 bed ex council house (built 1940s.) Perfectly OK area, just not as middle class as the other area. But the house was 20% less and double the size. Why would you move into something much smaller as a family of 4?

How funny that Clurr is all pissed off and annoyed at the move (with Kevin and Salleh) now, when she started it all! 😆

Also, I didn't know Kevin and Sally had a loo in the garage!

And OMG, Julie's performative grief in the Church! Shock What a sad sight though, a baby's coffin. 😢

Glad Maria and Liam have made it up now. Carla is pissed off though! 😆

Yes i have to.say that tiny coffin brought a tear to my eye and Liam and Maria talking to baby Paul 😢😥

thenightsky · 09/04/2026 10:47

Poor Maria and Liam. Awful Carla, hanging around when they wanted to be alone, like a big black raven of doom.

CherryogDog · 09/04/2026 11:57

Carla was like a shark using Liam's grief to muscle in.

x2boys · 09/04/2026 12:03

Carla is absolutely vile
I think she's manipulating Liam because hes very vulnerable at the moment

eggandonion · 09/04/2026 18:49

I’m confused, I can only find one episode shown yesterday and that ended when Maria arrived at the funeral. I seem to be missing one of the actual funeral
