CLASSIC CORRIE THREAD. Now in March 2008.

SabreIsMyFave · 04/03/2026 19:53

Wow soooo much has happened since the last thread was started - almost a year ago... We were in June 2006, and now we're in March 2008.

Keith was still in the street then, (who was dating Audrey,) and had just been booted out of his house by Charlie Stubbs. Now Charlie is dead after being killed by TracyLuv who is in prison now, and is never seen!

Les Battersby left in 2007 after going to work as a roadie with a band.

Ronnie was in it (Steve's girlfriend at the time) and was trying to set Steve up for a hit and run she had done. And Lloyd had just joined. Streetcars.

Mike Baldwin had just died. (Early 2006.)

Leanne Battersby and Mike's son Danny Baldwin were still together (after he left his wife Frankie for Leanne.). And in late 2006 Danny's son Jamie Baldwin (who was dating barmaid Violet Wilson) started having an affair with Danny's ex - wife Frankie... (His stepmum!) Obviously Violet finished with him.

Now Jamie has just left the street with Violet, (after they made it up,) with a baby she has had with Sean Tully. (Sean and Violet were platonic friends.) Sean is distraught that they have left, and he doesn't know where they've gone.

Janice and Cilla were at each others throats, but now Cilla has gone - to live in Las Vegas, leaving poor Chesney with Kirk and Fiz.

Amber had just arrived back then - Dev's daughter, and now she's part of the furniture!

Ashley was fighting for the right to keep Joshua after his bio dad Matt said he wants him. They had a court order for Matt to have access, but Matt has hardly been seen since!

Poor old Fred Elliot has died! (October 2006.) He was just about to marry Shelley's mum Bev too. Ashley's butcher shop is starting to have problems. (Financially.) Bev and Shelley are no longer on the street.

And now we have Tina McIntrye who only came into Corrie a few weeks ago, and is with David Platt, and currently pregnant by him!

The Mortons joined not long ago, and have the kebab shop, and new owners of the bookies have surfaced. Father and son. (Harry and Dan.) Both currently sort of dating Kelly Crabtree and her long legs! But Dan is starting to have eyes for Leanne.

Jason and Sarah got married in late 2007, but it didn't last long, after Jason saw Sarah as spoilt and selfish, and uncaring (after her brother David ran his car into the canal and she only cared about her wedding.) David was offered a job with his uncle Stephen (In Milan,) and Sarah tricked Stephen into thinking David was a drug addict, and she had the job instead! (David had had some drugs a little while back that Bethany had accidently eaten, so Stephen believed Sarah.) Jason and Sarah have now split and Sarah is now living in Milan with uncle Stephen, and she's taken Bethany with her!

Vera Duckworth died very suddenly just a few weeks ago, leaving Jack devastated. His grandson Paul - and Molly and Tyrone have been consoling him. Although Paul did just steal £3000 off Jack via a betting slip that Jack had lost and Paul found. So he takes after his father - Terry!

Big Jim McDonald came back after trying to stop Elizabeth (his ex wife Liz) from marrying Vernon. The slightly-annoying-and-ever-so-bonkers-but-still-nice-and-stable musician she has been dating for a while (on and off!) They were dating for a while, then Liz had an affair with Derek - Newton and Ridley delivery man! That was quite short lived and Vernon forgave her and Liz and Vernon got married in December 2007.

Rosie Webster has had a fling with her teacher, John Stape - who was dating Fiz! That caused a big furore, as Kevin hit John, and then went to jail for 2 weeks for it.

Roy Cropper just got back from Mozambique where he has been visiting his wife Hayley who is a volunteer out there.

Maria is pregnant by Liam Connor, and Liam's sister in law Carla is jealous and has tried to come between them. Liam got hurt on a recent trip to the Lake District with Maria, and called out Carla's name when he was drifting in and out oof conciousness! Despite this Maria still agreed to marry Liam!

Oh, and Leanne is getting bored running her restaurant! And Chesney is starting to really struggle at home with no mother or father there.

Probably much more that I have missed out.

Wonder where we'll all be at when this thread ends?! Grin

And also why it disappears again. From memory, it was only used in the Steve Michelle era. Although I can’t recall accurately when they stopped showing it

The rovers doesnt look like its big enough ti accomadate all those rooms
There must be at least four bedrooms
One for Steve and Michelle
One for Liz
One Amy
One for Ryan
And now this mysterious extra lounge/ kitchen
And presumaby a bathroom

I am finding auntie Pam really quite annoying! (Still.) 😆

How on earth has Eileen not spotted her sister Julie yet?! She's been there about 4 months now?

Glad Michelle is leaving for a few weeks!

I wasenta regular watcher at this point
But i dont think they know they are sisters?
I tjought Julie,s mum was groomed by Eileens Dad when they were friends at 14 ?

WheresThatCatGoneNow · 31/05/2026 23:06

Where did that room come from?

And I was in tears when nasty Tony just let that poor cat go onto the streets and said "You're on your own now."

Absolute cruelty.

NewGirlInTown · 01/06/2026 13:44

This is not a very pleasant phase of Corrie.
Tony Gordon is a vile character and I’m so bored with that storyline.
That Pam woman who just keeps appearing in Tyrone and Molly’s house is annoying as heck.
Michelle is a revolting character and treats people very badly.
Does it get better soon?

Liz really pissed me off last week. Saying to Steve that Michelle was using him to look after Ryan while she went away without a hint of self awareness for the fact that Michelle had just taken Amy shopping + was looking after her when Steve buggered off to Spain. Reflects that women are seen as default childcare so much so that its not even noticed when we do it but bet Liz would notice if Michelle downed tools and behaved in the same way as Steve

Flowertrees · 01/06/2026 14:53

Agree it’s crap at the mo. Hate all the Conors (don’t really hate Liam but I hate what they make his character do) and hate Tony. Pam is just annoying. Nothing good really at the moment and I’ve got a feeling it might continue to be rubbish from hereonin

Me and DH went OMG! 😢 when Tony Gordon said 'you're on your own now!' to that man's cat! I mean it's obviously fiction, but I bet there are plenty of people like this in real life. Tony Gordon is a reprehensible, vile creature! Angry

In response to a few peoples posts, I agree that Classic Corrie is a bit 'meh' at the moment. What on earth is the point of Molly's auntie Pam? She is bringing nothing to the show other than annoying people.

I have a feeling that Corrie never goes back to its old self after this phase.

A number of people on the Classic Corrie threads have said a few times (in the past year or so) that the Connors coming into Corrie signified its demise, and I agree. It's fairly OK for some years yet, but I think it lost its way from the mid to late noughties, and from then, it was never the same as the Corrie that the older fans (who watched it in the 1960s, 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s remember.)

I’ve just seen Tyrone in Classic Corrie and now as a kid in Heartbeat. Is there some sort of rule that actors who are in Emmerdale or Corrie are in Heartbeat first lol

NewGirlInTown · 01/06/2026 18:29

Wouldn’t it be wonderful if they abandoned Classic Corrie here , and go right back to the 70s/80s?
The stupid, overly dramatic storylines are creeping in and I think this is the beginning of the end… 😢

eggandonion · 01/06/2026 18:40

They can move these ones trundling on and go back to the start at the earlier afternoon time. I started watching before lockdown with Hilda and Bet and proper stories. Steve and Vicky...Alec...Audrey and Alma ...Mike and assorted ladies in his posh flat...so much better.

WheresThatCatGoneNow · 02/06/2026 08:43

Did anyone else notice that photo when the elderly man in the hospital bed opened the tin?

It was Minnie Caldwell and her cat Bobby!

I agree, I dislike the Connors intensely, apart from Liam and he won't be around much longer. I do like Tyrone and Molly but I think this is the start of weddings that cannot possibly go without a hitch, and I watched their wedding on YouTube at the weekend. Can't stand Aunty Pam, Teresa and the kids, Fiz and Gail acting like lovestruck teenagers, David not getting the message about Tina and the upcoming storyline with Dev and his women!! I long for the days of Bet and Alec, feisty Rita, Hilda and Stan, even Mavis and Derrick!

I started watching it around 2018. I think they were airing the 1991 episodes, when Deirdre was trying to hold on to her council seat but Alf won it back.

I was off work at the time with depression and burnout. My poor wee nan, with her bad legs, used to walk round to my house with her walker to make sure I'd gotten out of bed that day. Then we'd sit and watch it together before she'd take herself back home. At the time, I used to think she was a nuisance for calling, but I appreciate now how much giving me something to get out of bed for, even if it was only for an hour, helped my recovery.

I was born in 1989 and we'd always watched Corrie, so it was interesting to see those episodes from an adult's point of view. Percy scared me a bit as a child, but I loved him as an adult.

I've been toying with the idea of packing it in now. I don't get that same comfort from the episodes any longer, just boredom, or stress from the way some of the characters are carrying on.

Absolutely!
My late mother and I used to watch it together, and I started watching Classic as a comfort when I was having a tough time.
I’ve recently realised it is making me feel stressed rather than relaxed and
comforted. So unnecessary. Did it really need a gangster type threatening the small
businesses in the Street in his bid to take over the world.
The threatening of that older man made me feel genuinely upset.
We know there are these bad people out there, but I would suggest the Classic Corrie audience don’t want to be reminded. We like the escape back into a world we loved but which has
gone forever.
Given the way today’s Corrie has gone, Classic was a refuge.

Shitzngiggles · 02/06/2026 17:08

I'm on holiday at the moment and missed some episodes before I came away. Judging by these posts I dont think I'll bother catching up on the episodes I've missed, I'll just start watching again from when I get back.

I absolutely hate that Tony character. I know he can't help his physical appearance but his dodgy eye gives me the absolute creeps.

CherryogDog · 03/06/2026 09:03

Those of you who are missing the good old days of Corrie, they are on YouTube. Bet was just fabulous in my eyes!

WheresThatCatGoneNow · 04/06/2026 17:36

I think Auntie Pam has been brought in as a comedic replacement for Vera.

Was the actress in Phoenix Nights?

Flowertrees · 04/06/2026 21:19

The woman dev is having an affair with is so weird. She’s supposed to be some kind of gorgeous femme fatale but I’m just not seeing it. And the way she acts and speaks makes me never want to watch this programme again!!

x2boys · 04/06/2026 21:32

Did anyone notice that Theresa was stood outude Jerrys house waiting for the Taxi and talking to Mel it was raining and she waa wearing a coat
And yet Mel who she was talking to outside weatherfield general presumably only a couple of miles away was in a vest top and the sun was blazing🤔

Doy · 04/06/2026 23:12

How did Liz keep a straight face when Vernon was singing to her??

justthecat · 05/06/2026 16:52

That woman kicking off at Roy and Becky in the background, didn’t take her long 😂
