Anyone watched it yet? It’s a really excellent documentary with loads of footage of her police interviews.

You see the police asking her questions about those ‘confession’ notes.

I won’t put spoilers in the OP but I’d love to hear what others made of her responses.

Mid way through I thought she’s 💯 guilty but by the end I’m really not sure. A lot points to her being innocent.

I feel for the parents of those babies so much, the uncertainty must be horrendous 😞

I think it’s way more bonkers to start hugging a cat when you’re being accused of murdering 17 babies,

Perhaps being shocked awake and handcuffed and accused of murdering 17 babies upset her? I am not a cat person, but cat and dog people I know hug their animals when they are upset

TheRozzers · 05/02/2026 18:43

Hugging her cat made me think innocent! Psychopaths kill cats they don’t hug them.
Surely, surely there must be something in her past that’s a red flag? From 0 to serial killer is just insane.

You may not relate to this especially if you’re not an animal person. It’s likely that her home life revolved around caring for her cats, that can be as important as hugging your children or family members

Ian Brady was enraged when the police didn’t take care of his dog

Clarabell77 · 05/02/2026 18:59

You sense wrong, I like animals and I have dogs. I don’t think I’d be making a show of cuddling them if I’d been accused of murdering babies though.

So was Dennis Nilsen.

I didn’t think so as I had to check whether it was Ian Brady or him..

I can see it though too with DN

“Making a show” of hugging a much loved pet. Alright. Sure.

She probably knew she wasn’t coming back!

I agree with Clara - it’s odd when you’ve been arrested for the most heinous crime that exists

although I just think it’s odd, not evidence of guilt

Clarabell77 · 05/02/2026 19:08

JH0404 · 05/02/2026 15:17

I agree it’s weird, but not beyond refute. I’m not sure I could name every item in my household as things accumulate and aren’t used very often. Also it wouldn’t be wise to use a home shredder as clinical notes are taken away and incinerated. I thought that using the diary for self reflection was plausible as was writing down intrusive thoughts which a therapist advised her to do. I hope there is a re trial, but I can’t see how they could do it in this country without the jury being biased from what we’ve seen in the media

Surely you’d know if you had an item like that in your house.

Regardless, she marked “keep” on the box and had them organised in chronological order. Doesn’t sound like she had any intention of shredding them at all.

IAmNotPrepared · 05/02/2026 19:12

Whereas I don’t think looking for comfort in a traumatising situation is remotely odd

In the Thirlwall enquiry Lucy Letby had to redo her final student nursing placement for being ‘cold’ and not having empathy with the families. Don’t think this happens much although I don’t know.
i do worry that she could be innocent though.

I disagree I couldn’t tell you the name of every power tool in the shed, I’ve often come across things in my house if I’m organising or clearing out that I hadn’t seen for years and didn’t remember. It would also be obvious a large item like this would be found easily and she knew they had searched the house. I think she forgot.

I think the box of notes had likely got out of hand as she hadn’t prioritised bringing them back to be disposed of properly which isn’t good. It’s plausible to write keep on the box as it could be catastrophic for them to be thrown away by accident.

This is my opinion and none of us can really know, your opinion is also relevant. I don’t want to be part of a pile on as I can see you are defending yourself from a few angles ✌️

It’s odd and not at all explainable

we aren’t talking tools - we are talking tools of your job which you know needed shredding

and btw she had only be living at that address for two years and a few months when arrested - hardly time to “lose” a shredder

She'd been living with the accusation that she had killed babies for four years at that point. What difference does it make to hug her cats?

It’s not a tool of her job, confidential waste goes into bags which are in locked boxes at the hospital (there’s a slot to post it in) it then gets taken by a company who incinerates it. It shouldn’t be shredded at home as this doesn’t completely destroy it.

We all have different domestic arrangements. I've been spring-cleaning. Half the stuff I find I don't expect, and half the stuff I expect I don't find ...

Gloopsy · 05/02/2026 19:37

Wow, I thought she was possibly innocent before.

After seeing this - utterly guilty. She said it herself in her notes! The notes like "discriminations" and "bastards" dont make her writing "I killed them, I am evil, I did this" wrong

Her friend doesnt give any evidence for her belief that she is innocent, just "I can't believe she was found guilty"

Mark McDonald and Dr Shoo Lee seem to me like they had decided what the answer should be, and then made the evidence fit what they wanted

This is the baffling thing about this case; that every bit of evidence (including the post it notes) can be viewed in both ways.
I remember seeing a timeline of the baby’s collapses/passings and her text messages to colleagues at the time, which laid out with dates/times, had an uneasy tone to them. However, another person can interpret them entirely differently.

I’ve continually swayed from innocent to guilty and back again etc. There is just not one concrete undeniable piece of evidence. Which makes it heart breaking for everyone involved.

I highly doubt that if you’re getting woken up by police and arrested for murder in a case that has been ongoing you’re going to be thinking “oh no the poor babies that died two years ago” and not thinking about yourself and the fact you consider yourself innocent and why on earth are you being arrested/worrying if you’d been framed or if you’d been so negligent you’d caused harm.

This is correct. I worked for a healthcare company for many years and was responsible for all the patient (primarily children) paperwork. I worked from home but would have to bring all paperwork to be safely disposed of by a specialist waste collection. It was never shredded.

Exactly - either way cats wouldn’t be your priority
