Hope you have a lovely day Startup

StartupRepair · 14/01/2026 00:43

Thanks it is a real treat. Learner took the first set from Cilic.

Casper has just lost in Auckland. That's not great.

Cilic

That's a great picture. I always forget how tall he is!

We were sitting so close to the players - Kooyong is very much an old fashioned intimate tennis club.

IceandIndigo · 14/01/2026 09:21

Hope you had a good time Startup, it sounds like you saw some great players.

I wish I could say I'm surprised at Casper losing his first match in Auckland, but that's exactly what he did a couple of years back when I was there visiting family and had bought tickets hoping to see him in the next round.

I've missed most of the action today, since I went out early- but Ice I'm not really very surprised by Casper's loss. He doesn't always do well at the is time o year- he's only made the 4th round once at AO . It's surprising, because he's good on hard courts- but he just doesn't start the year well at all. I had hoped his few matches at the United Cup might have helped a bit.

He did say in a press conference that he's on standby to go home if he needs to because his baby is due soon. Maybe his head isn't on his game.

IceandIndigo · 14/01/2026 15:57

Is his baby due soon Raahh? I thought he said it was conceived during Wimbledon?! It can't be easy being so far from home.

I'm sure he said it was in the next few weeks- but maybe he's looking for a excuse to skip AO Grin

Fizzywinegum · 15/01/2026 08:32

Hope that everyone enjoyed the one point slam (I’m not sure that I really understand what it is but it seems to have created a lot of excitement!) - it’s quite funny that a non professional won - not sure that Sinner or Alcaraz need any more millions

Poor Sebastian Ofner got confused by the final set tiebreak in the qualifiers - he thought that he’d won the match not realising that he had to win 10 points - his opponent then went on to win the match - oh dear

Raahh · 15/01/2026 08:34

Catching up om some scores, nothing really surprising. Emma R lost, but I'm not shocked by that at all.
I was glad to see ADF win yesterday,
Unfortunately, Tommy Paul won his match today. I had almost forgotten about him Grin.
Nervy start for Mirra Andreeva against Maya Joint- only the second game though.
Draw is out for AO- Jannik and Djok are in the same half. I can't see Djok being a threat.

Matteo Berrettini, who cannot catch a break, has drawn AdM in the first round.
Fingers crossed Pedro Martinez can pull off an upset in the first round against Djok!

Raahh · 15/01/2026 08:38

Fizzy the one point slam completely passed me by,til I saw the results. What with the Mixed doubles thing at the US Open, and this, the slams are becoming a bit gimmicky. Wheelie Bin tennis at Wimbledon could still become a reality!

I saw the story about Ofner- how embarrassing for him!

Fizzywinegum · 15/01/2026 08:57

Yes Raahh Tim is probably frantically wracking his brains trying to come up with something for Wimbledon - what’s wrong with just normal tennis! (although I would quite like to see a reappearance of wheelie bin tennis Grin)

Fizzywinegum · 15/01/2026 09:03

Wonder what the French Open will come up with? Maybe putting a women’s match on in the evening - that would be a novelty!

Don't get carried away Fizzy - that would be a step too far Grin

Raahh · 15/01/2026 09:23

I disappeared for a bit, and it looks like Mirra's early wobbles were soon behind her. She looks on course to win this 6-2 6-0 now.

That might be a bit radical Grin

I only saw a clip of players watching the one point slam and none of the actual tennis! Poor Ofner I’m not surprised he was confused

IceandIndigo · 15/01/2026 22:37

The one point slam is on the AO YouTube. I recommend watching the last few rounds, it’s a good laugh.

I've switched on Adelaide- ADF playing Humbert- just starting. I ought to walk the dog,but he's fast asleep and it's wet and miserable outside. So maybe I'll watch this for a bit.

Raahh · 16/01/2026 08:19

ADF's serve is a bit off today. His first game is taking ages- Ugo's was over in about a minute.

IceandIndigo · 16/01/2026 09:27

Come on ADF!

OP posts:
IceandIndigo · 16/01/2026 09:43

Great game by ADF to take the second set.

OP posts:
Raahh · 16/01/2026 09:59

The dog woke up and started getting demanding- so I missed most of the second set.

Glad to see that ADF got the set.

StartupRepair · 16/01/2026 10:05

Would love to see ADF get a title...we watched the one point slam on tv. It was pretty gimmicky and TV focused but quite pleasant to watch. The players were mainly in very sweet and playful moods which was nice to see.
