Now I’ve had a look at the article, I’ll remember Ellie as quiet blonde lady, Jack as cow/horse, Roxy as Judy’s daughter … but I still can’t think what Matthew had said or done!

SomethingUniqueThisTime · 07/01/2026 11:24

I’m not convinced by all the theories about connections between players, however I do wonder whether each player has a ‘secret’ not disclosed to the rest of the group. For example:

Amanda - retired detective
Harriet - crime writer and ex-barrister
Jade - studying for a PhD (rather than just a MA), and a tactical gamer
Roxy & Judy - daughter and mother
Ellie & Ross - potential relationship

This is what I think of with each of the contestants and remember them

  1. hugo traitor barrister BANISHED
  2. rachel traitor mum with dementia
  3. Stephen traitor isle of Hebrides London security consultant
  4. Judy, foster and social worker BANISHED
  5. Nettie, single mum and teacher, limb difference MURDERED
  6. Ben, ex navy MURDERED
  7. Sam - bloke who went for Judy and also got in the chariot in second episode for shield
  8. Ross - PT who knows Nettie and also got in chariot in second episode for shield
  9. James - random theory guy think he said he had adhd, and got in chariot in second episode for shield
  10. Harriet - ex barrister crime writer, now I think of the three older women together
  11. Fiona - lady trying to play dumb but seems sneaky in diary room
  12. Amanda - ex detective now volunteer
  13. Faraaz - young man who wants to take his family on Hajj and have a car. I don’t think they’ve shown us much more about him or any scheming he’s doing?
  14. Maz - civil servant who does yoga. The ST wants him out! Or the ST thinks he’s inconsequential and a shortlist filler name.
  15. Jade - PhD student in pregnancy and women’s health, why isn’t this mentioned rather than the gaming!
  16. Jessie - colourful and fun dresser with stammer

Then I start to get shaky,

  1. Reece - shield obsessed in painting game
  2. Adam I think is the builder?

So remembered 18 names without looking. Who have I missed? Ellie (so quiet), Jack, Matthew can’t remember anything distinguishing those two … and ah Roxy! Should have remembered her! https://www.bbc.co.uk/mediacentre/mediapacks/the-traitors-series-4-contestants

Jack - chess playe, 90s dresser.

Does anyone else feel think the stuff around the edges is actually taking over, for example talk of the ST and talk of connections, because the core of the show has run its course.

I don’t mean it negatively, I’m just pondering because I was thinking “come on, let’s just get on with it really” but actually we’d probably be complaining about all the people who think they’re found clues but haven’t, all the people ignoring smart comments by older players etc.

It’s obviously now a huge show which they’ll want to keep going, but I wish they could keep it fresh and interesting int the core structure without the need these changes. I personally hope there are not more connections.

Its such a psychologically intense show I think for the reason it can exhaust viewers. If you couple that with 'the same format' every time, people will get 'bored'.

It's actually a lot different to what I expected - I thought there would be more exploration of motives and you'd have to figure out people's motives. The challenges seem to be mostly physical, maybe mental ones would be good too.

ChinFluff46 · 07/01/2026 12:29

ClaudiaWeveAllHadChildcareDaysLikeThat · 07/01/2026 10:11

@MaggieFS yeah the show changes slightly each year in its gameplay focus. I thought the first year was more like Mole, there were people actually trying their best to win money and the prize pot, and they tried to figure out who was the traitor based on how they behaved in the challenges - I think it was mainly around behaviour about shields? I really liked that in the first series, the challenges were interesting and things actually happened during them. Now it’s more like a jolly. Clearly the back biting, diary room and round table were more popular than the challenges so that’s the way they’ve gone.

I don’t understand why the traitors were instantly offended and so focused on the Secret Traitor - were they guided by production? It just seemed like self sabotage. Why would a traitor have to worry about an ST? There was nothing said about how it would affect them winning the prize money. If they got through as a traitor, they’d still win. The comment from Rachael that the ST would direct heat to the known traitors was very flimsy I think.

I don't think the current traitors are great strategists.

Stephen- goes with the herd
Hugo - left his thoughts and observations unfinished, while they were good, he didn't follow them through and was a bit reactive
Rachel - good but we're not seeing her inner processes

Most of the interchangeable young men said they were brilliant strategists, it's unlikely current traitors will remain so, perhaps we'll see a switch in game play.

If he's not ST, I really want to see Jack as traitor for his chess background. Everyone has blind spots though I guess.

ChinFluff46 · 07/01/2026 12:33

Traitor strategy seems to have been 'let's create confusion'. That's a bad move as during the confusion others will be marshaling their attacks and strategies like Fiona on Hugo. Funny Hugo dug his own hole like he said Ross had.

I like it when Traitors say let's think two steps ahead and get rid of the strongest players. But arguably that gets predictable, you end up with nicest players going I don't know why I'm still in the game, and amidst them are one or two traitors who have pulled off being nice, mainly as the nice are too nice and unassuming to question. So be interesting to see what happens.

ThatCyanCat · 07/01/2026 12:44

Honestly, with some rare exceptions, I think strategy is vastly overrated in the game. There are very few situations where you can genuinely reason your way through (which is why it was SO FRUSTRATING when Molly missed the chance to do just that, after Jas had been so ridiculously clever and used his own opportunity for logic when he worked out why Paul and Harry had to be traitors!). It's almost entirely a guessing game, coming down to people just having to choose whom to believe. Traitors get to choose who to murder but even that often isn't hugely strategic, especially in the game's early stages.

Umbilicat · 07/01/2026 12:49

Over the years there've been rare times when a humdinging clue is dropped (won't say for spoiler reasons) and traditionally the faithful never pick up on it

Which is why Reese probably won't notice the buffoonery at the family tree

If he did he should be telling everyone as that's the best way to protect himself from murder

Yes strategy is overrated because it’s more like psychology / how do people behave, react and respond when in a totally alien environment cut off from support and usual routines and with completely new people. There won’t be rhyme or reason. Perhaps Ellie the psychologist would disagree 🤣

@Umbilicat could you please PM me what you’re referring to? I’m terrible at remembering based on cues like that.

ClaudiaWeveAllHadChildcareDaysLikeThat · 07/01/2026 13:18

I can’t wait until 9pm tonight! How will we all get through the last week of January when it’s all finished!?

LittleBitofBread · 07/01/2026 13:38

AuntyAngela · 05/01/2026 09:48

Don't be confused by it - all it means is one 'finger loading' (for want of a different description) from the pot made the edit. It may have even been shot after the dabbing was done.

Same with the handwashiing - Rachel could very well have gone to the loo and washed her hands - the shot we were shown was her washing her glass. Which she may have been asked to do.)

On the fingerprint detection - wouldn't hink there's a ruse possible. I don't think fingerprint matching is done looking at someone's fingertips (especially not covertly looking) and then matching to a fingerprint. The differences are too minute!!

I agree the whole Reece happily walking off for Rachel and Stephen to chat was odd. I'm wondering how often that happens, that two people want to talk and the others leave them to it. Could be normal? We've certainly seen in past Traitors someone coming up to a group and say something like "can we talk" and extracting one person.

I can't remember it happening previously, but will take your word for it! What struck me as odd was that Rachel made vague noises about wanting to talk to Stephen alone, and Reece leapt in and said something like, 'Do you want me to go? I can go.' Maybe he's an agreeable person and was just trying to be agreeable about this, but it seemed a bit keen.
I've no idea what it might mean though Grin

It’s 8pm isn’t it? (Annoyingly, as I generally don’t get back until 8.30 on a Wednesday)

Yes 8-9pm I can’t wait until 9pm after I’ve finished watching it 🤣 sorry for confusion

MaggieFS · 07/01/2026 14:23

I think it’s much more about luck and chance than strategy. I’m always amused when contestants find it suspicious that other contestants are keeping notes. Surely that would be the least you’d do. But apparently not!

ilovesooty · 07/01/2026 14:26

I think the ST is tedious. I just wish they'd reveal who it is and shelve the whole thing. The connections were interesting for the first two series and are now boring and distract from the activities in my opinion.

CharlotteRumpling · 07/01/2026 14:48

I also don't like the ST and I didn't like the seer in the last season.

ClaudiaWeveAllHadChildcareDaysLikeThat · 07/01/2026 14:57

Oh yeah I did not like the Seer at all. Link explaining if anyone struggles to remember like me! Francesca was portrayed as so dramatic about it, and they just overloaded the production of her walking in and the betrayal. It was too artificial. www.radiotimes.com/tv/entertainment/reality-tv/the-seer-the-traitors-season-3-twist-explained/

ThatCyanCat · 07/01/2026 15:17

I don't think they'll do the Seer again, it went so wrong. What you want is to be the Seer, but without anyone else knowing it!

booksnbaking · 07/01/2026 15:40

QueenOfThorns · 06/01/2026 18:36

It’s easy! They’re all Matthew, unless they’re wearing a hat, in which case they’re Adam. Or mention a shield every 30 seconds, then they’re Reece. I’m proud to have worked it out Grin

Or have a haircut like a sheep perching on top of their head and dad glasses, in which case they're Jack.

(Sorry to Jack if those glasses are the very latest trendy thing. I'm much too old and indifferent to keep count of which ancient trends have come round again.)

Mimosa3andmore · 07/01/2026 15:52

Annoyingly I am out both tonight and tomorrow (booked several months ago!) so I won't catch up with you all until the weekend.

I hope both episodes are good!

RescueMeFromThisSilliness · 07/01/2026 15:53

I'm not entirely sure that being a strategist/gamer/psychologist/chess player is all that much use, because you'll normally be up against people who think along similar lines to you. All these people in the castle aren't going to be playing like that, and are likely to go off on wildly unexpected tangents. Interpreting their motives and behaviours against your usual benchmarks will send you right up the garden path on a wild goose chase without a paddle.

Enjoying the ST though, but I do think their presence has made us drop the rope slightly, because we've been discussing little else. Looking forward to tonight and finding out who they are.

MaggieFS · 07/01/2026 16:12

I think my chances of DC being settled by 8pm are nil and I’ve stupidly got DH hooked too, so I can’t sneak off to watch and leave bedtime to him. Error.

TreesandGreen · 07/01/2026 16:17

I've got no idea who the ST is at all!
I thought Harriet for a while, but I think I've changed my mind about that now.
I think I've narrowed it down to Fiona, Amanda, Jade then possibly Ellie after those three.
But, I might be way off, as it's so hard to tell due to editing. We might all have been manipulated by the editors, and it could be one of the more obscure players we've not seen so much of...
No idea 🤷‍♀️

ilovesooty · 07/01/2026 16:41

CharlotteRumpling · 07/01/2026 14:48

I also don't like the ST and I didn't like the seer in the last season.

Without the Seer at that stage I think Charlotte would have won.

ilovesooty · 07/01/2026 16:43

I'm going to have to watch on catchup - I've got a football match to view.
