Nope...watched it with the elderly next door neighbour - 1963-64 ish.

Could you be thinking of Playschool?
That was broadcast on BBC 2 but I agree with pp that watch with mother was on bbc 1 in the 60s

We had cable tv. My teenage years were basically Music Box.

2, but we only ever watched the BBC. Probably because it was too much bother to walk across the room to change channels!

Yes we didn't have a TV at all until I was about 7. And there were only the 2 channels in the late 50s when we got our first one - rented as was the norm then.

We were only allowed to watch BBC because my father couldn't stand the adverts on the commercial channel.

@BuoyedWithOptimisticIgnorance

Technically 3 but we weren't allowed to watch ITV because it was common

😀

I was just reminiscing with my H about getting the double issue Radio Times & TV Times at Christmas and he said, “We didn’t get the TV Times”.

I remember we had the huge box that could record, Dish... And 500+ channels. I watched mostly from 1-100 and some in the 200s.

Yes indeed playschool - gosh wish I'd never posted.

I remember when channel 5 launched (1997, I was 7), then we had Sky.

Growlybear83 · 09/12/2025 07:54

Two. I can remember BBC2 launching. My two earliest TV memories are watching the first episodes of Coronation Street and Dr Who.

iSage · 09/12/2025 07:57

Three until I was 9, then Channel 4 was launched.

I remember being awestruck when someone told me that in the USA, they had 20 TV channels including one that showed nothing but children's programmes.

I don't think I would have believed that one day we would have access to hundreds of TV channels, and multiple children's channels. However, I had no concept back then of TV channels that consisted of little more than adverts, or the same programmes repeated several times throughout the day.

3 to start as a young child, then C4 came in.

TheBewleySisters · 09/12/2025 08:38

Two. BBC and ITV.

I was just trying to help clarify, not be picky. 😊
I find it fascinating piecing together bits of memories from my childhood.

Four. I definitely remember when channel 5 was launched!

I think I was about 6 when channel 5 started. I remember happening it but vaguely
