Guilty pleasure Christmas movies

Is it too early for a Christmas film thread?

A sick dc means I've been up since 5.30am so I just gave up and got up and decided to break the Christmas movie seal!

It was actually pretty good and I'd recommend, a bit of a different twist which was good. Journey back to Christmas with Candace CB on My5.

I love Christmas With the Kranks, Mickey's Christmas Carol and The Family Stone

Coffeeishot · 10/11/2025 22:56

I have edited this because I posted on the wrong thread sorry

Crushed23 · 10/11/2025 23:42

I thought The Holiday was utter wank, personally.

My favourite is Home Alone 2. Watched it a couple of weekends ago when I was sick in bed. Will watch it again nearer Christmas. Love every minute of it.

Purplebunnie · 10/11/2025 23:55

Muppets Christmas Castle

StrikeForever · 10/11/2025 23:59

Love Actually and Bridget Jones Diary. Not very original, but well, it’s not even going to be Christmas until I’ve watched Love Actually ❤️

Workingmammabear · 11/11/2025 00:06

Last Christmas, cant believe its not been mentioned already! It's one of the most British Christmas movies since Bridget Jones. Comedy, love, magic and a bit of music. I watch it every year.

JustAquaMentor · 11/11/2025 00:10

The Family Stone for me x

strugglingwithlife · 11/11/2025 08:22

I also watch the family stone every year.
And the holiday, home alone and home alone 2.
While you were sleeping. The first Bridget Jones.
Your Christmas or mine.
Muppet's Christmas carol.
Christmas with the Coopers.
National Lampoon's Christmas vacation.
Christmas with the Kranks.
Elf.

greengreytrue · 11/11/2025 08:47

Muppet Christmas Carol

Cherrypi · 11/11/2025 18:03

No one mentioning last year's Netflix contribution - Hot Frosty?

BotterMon · 11/11/2025 18:07

Die Hard!

The Holiday and Love Actually. So what if they're considered crap by the intellectual snobs; they're fun.

BellaTheDarkOverlord · 11/11/2025 18:09

Dh loves all the prince/royalty cheesy ones where it’s the stuck up prince of Andora/Andaloosha/Angoria and they are always already engaged but he finds the protagonist is more his type. Dh says next week is start of Xmas movie week and is going to make me watch the princess switch ones 😂

How come the royal families in all of these movies speak proper English but the subjects in the country they rule over all speak with accents and look like something out of 1800s.

BellaTheDarkOverlord · 11/11/2025 18:10

Oh and we enjoyed Hot Frosty too and the Lindsay Lohan one where she loses her memory.

I’ll be watching Vicar of Dibley Xmas specials whilst wrapping presents.

Muppets Christmas Castle

Castle? Castle?? I meant carol😂😂can't even see that it's a typo

Had forgotten Vicar of Dibley Christmas special, I think I need to watch again

I remember Journey Back to Christmas - where she 'crashes' her car in a non-existant pile of snow!

Mrs Miracle is my fave of the lesser known Christmas films.

My overall favourites are the ones everyone else is too mature to enjoy nowadays and have to find fault with - Love Actually and The Holiday.

Love Actually is what DD and I consider to be our Christmas film.

unsync · 11/11/2025 18:51

Elf.
White Christmas.

Whippets81 · 11/11/2025 19:01

I’m just watching the Holiday Calendar - it’s only a few years old but I’ve watched it every Christmas since - it’s a modern classic!

CraftandGlamour · 11/11/2025 19:05

My absolute favourite is Spirited and I love the soundtrack too.

Another long time fan of While You Were Sleeping which manages to be genuinely funny and sweet.

Elf, It's A Wonderful Life (which, when you think about it, is not a very Christmassy film), The Night Before and I adore Krampus.

JennyForeigner · 11/11/2025 19:42

A Christmas Prince on Netflix. We get together as a group of friends every year and BINGE.

Spoiler alert, the secret adoption papers are in the wooden acorn, in the spare log cabin palace which is only accessible by horse, because... American journalist, obvs.

I love a Christmas film.
It helps that I have a very low bar.

Some new ones coming out on Netflix.

Yes! I've watched it the last couple of years. The Kat Graham one?

Thank you! Just the thing I was looking for! I was just thinking I hadn’t seen any new Christmas things on Netflix and was surprised as I feel they normally release them a bit earlier.

Notonthestairs · 11/11/2025 21:52

The Netflix list does look pretty good. They seem to be releasing at least one new film a week for the next month.

Hallmark will have to raise their 🎄 game!
