Is traitors scripted ?

I have absolutely adored celebrity traitors. I haven’t watched the first 2 series so this is my first viewing of it and it’s honestly been brilliant. Proper heart pounding, tense and so funny too. I just love it.

But it’s scripted right? At least in parts? It’s all a bit too perfect at times. Or is it just clever editing to string more of a coherent story line out of all the rough cuts?

The final was a blast to watch but sealed the deal for me that it’s a bit scripted. Although I did think Nick was going to turn the fire red and get rid of Alan.

I was listening to an interview with one of the producers on radio 4 thia week and whilst it isn't scripted it is edited to show a story.

JellyStarz · 07/11/2025 22:21

It won't be scripted but they will be stopped and asked to redo things as they had just done, over and over fro. different angles, so they are only acting out their own reactions and movements and things like shocked faces zoomed in will likely be the first takes. Some of the straight or stressed faces will likely just be them sat waitong for others having their close ups.

An example of this was Joe already had a name on his board but there was a shot from above of his chalkboard with his hand covering the name as though he was poised to write and thinking.

I thought this series that most of her wardrobe was awful. That last jumper and white netty skirt combination was appalling, looked like a 4 year old who wanted to dress up as a fairy but then got cold.
The more I look at her hair on this and on Strictly I'm sure that either her fringe is fake or she's got a fake hair topper, the two have different textures. I think she's becoming a bit of a caricature of herself.

I loved the jumper and white tiered skirt.
Her wardrobe stylist Sinead McKeefry is excellent.

Yes lots of details like this to build suspense but are they also perhaps nudged to vote in certain ways to create a narrative and suspense? Like Nick voting for Joe? Or do we think this is all genuine and it’s simply post production editing that builds the tension?

No nudging, all editing.

I recently did the Traitors Live Experience in London. Our host said that each round table takes a minimum of 4 hours to film. So I reckon it's mainly editing.

I fancy doing this is it any good?

I like her a lot but she’s no Alan Cummings. Alan and his Traitors wardrobe really are next level.

Did Alan Cummings host the first two series? The celeb one is my introduction to the show so I’ve not seen series one and two yet

He does the USA ones, which are also filmed in Scotland. His dog LaLa helps him 😍

I’ve looked at reviews and it seems a mixed bag depending on when you get banished/murdered!

If it’s early on you’ve paid £70 to be voted out and sit in a room watching on a screen.

If you last a while then it seems most people have a brilliant time.

Its put me off as I know that’s the game but I wouldn’t be happy if I left too early

Georgiepud · 08/11/2025 01:11

That's interesting about the 4 hours to film the round table. There was an occasion where Cat was sat next to the person being filmed (can't remember who), and she looked thoroughly bored or half asleep.

AsMyWhimsy · 08/11/2025 01:29

ShesTheAlbatross · 07/11/2025 10:07

Absolutely they choose who to start with (and then go round from) based on that. There’s no way that’s random. Joe voting last in the first vote yesterday, Nick voting last in the second.

Well, there’s a camera on everyone at the round table, so the producers can see over their shoulders who everyone’s voted for, then tell Claudia through her earpiece what order to call on each contestant in, to build maximum tension.

HuskyNew · 08/11/2025 08:28

As soon as Alan walked out of the castle having won, he was saying “parting is such sweet sorrow” and other references to his murders. So the faithful finalists must have known that’s how Celia went.

LonelyFans · 08/11/2025 08:32

Yeah the train thing was clearly editing and I thought that was a bit patronising to the audience really. I think they need to trust the show is good enough without needing to make it look like challenges are down to the last few seconds

Coffeeishot · 08/11/2025 08:34

ShesTheAlbatross · 06/11/2025 22:24

I think the audience is played all the time by the editing.

But I do think Joe was genuinely surprised that Nick voted for him.

He was so shocked he said on Traitor Uncloaked .when he texts/messages Nick he calls him.Judas 😀

OP my Dh also thinks it is scripted he thinks the round table is a waffley script and they are directed who to vote for he doesn't understand why Nick voted Joe, he is still going on about it !

Well we don’t know how much time they have. For example, Joe and Cat probably had a fair amount of time to chat while the final round table was filmed. And if I was Joe, that’s probably one of the first things I’d ask, because I’d want to know what I hadn’t picked up on!

Why would they need to direct them who to vote for?

They clearly don’t do that on the non-celeb version (they’re trying to win money, they can’t just force the outcome), and people love it.
If Joe had worked out the traitors and persuaded Nick and worked together and they’d won, it would still have been a great ending. They didn’t need to change it. They’d just have changed the editing of the penultimate episode ending to make it look like the faithful had no idea, rather than edit it to make it look like the traitors were toast. And so it would still have been an ending people didn’t expect, it would’ve edited to make it look like they snatched victory by working it out in the nick of time.

I said all this to him he is convinced it is staged!

I thought the first round table was drawn out and lost my interest a little bit. It felt like they had been steered when discussing their choices. BUT still enjoyed the series.

In previous series they have filmed the final scenes when they throw the pouches in the fire outside. I presume the weather wasn't on their side this time.

I said to DD2 that it must have been raining. We then went back and watched the end of series 2 (I won't say why as if anyone is looking to watch the normal traitors for the first time, that is a great one). They were inside for the pouches and I would have sworn they were outdoors!

I don’t think so. Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM) is a charity Joe Marler is an ambassador for and they’ve posted that “Joe might not have come away with the cash to support our life-saving service, but you still can”. So does your DH think that Joe Marler has just lied to a charity he’s worked with for years, and there was never any chance of them getting the money because it was all fixed?

I think your DH is underestimating the power of the editing to make almost any outcome look tense and surprising!

Coffeeishot · 08/11/2025 09:16

No of course not, I am also being light hearted it is a tv programme that dh had a gripe about but we enjoyed it and laughed about some of the vote offs not making sense etc.

Well there are people who work in the industry on this thread saying it’s not scripted. Carefully and cleverly edited seems to be the consensus.

I agree with this. It’s all great fun if you just go along with it but it’s all too perfect with the little comedy moments too. Joe being clonked on the head, Alan and his bum bag etc.

It’s a nice win-win for the charities of the finalists as they will still raise a good amount of money. Lots of people will donate now to the charities of their favourite celebrity who they were rooting for.
