Is traitors scripted ?

I have absolutely adored celebrity traitors. I haven’t watched the first 2 series so this is my first viewing of it and it’s honestly been brilliant. Proper heart pounding, tense and so funny too. I just love it.

But it’s scripted right? At least in parts? It’s all a bit too perfect at times. Or is it just clever editing to string more of a coherent story line out of all the rough cuts?

The final was a blast to watch but sealed the deal for me that it’s a bit scripted. Although I did think Nick was going to turn the fire red and get rid of Alan.

It's the edit I think, although I did think the time checks might have been a bit flexible on that last task. I know what you mean

skippy67 · 06/11/2025 22:16

I recently did the Traitors Live Experience in London. Our host said that each round table takes a minimum of 4 hours to film. So I reckon it's mainly editing.

peekaboopumpkin12 · 06/11/2025 22:16

I do think the time blast was timed for that shot, but still enjoyable

Nickyknackered · 06/11/2025 22:18

Because its all prerecorded (as opposed to like Big Brother) they can wait and see how it ends before editing the whole series. So not scripted, but edited to carve storyline and focus.

4 hrs??? What can they possibly have to say for 4 hrs! How many times can you say “I just have a sense you’re a traitor”.

But I agree it’s the edit, and it’s not scripted

4 hours bloody hell! Sounds exhausting. I’m sure editing plays a huge part.

So do we think the audience is being played by editing trickery? For example Joe and Nick’s friendship being exaggerated by choice shots of facial expressions? And perhaps cherry picking talking heads that highlight a particular line of thinking when in fact someone behind the camera has probably asked questions to elicit answers that could fit all kinds of narratives?

It’s exceptional nonetheless because an editing team has done an outstanding job putting it all together and I honestly have been so invested and my heart has been pounding! 😅

Yes I had thought it was mostly this but then a few things had me thinking they were perhaps nudged in a certain direction by the production team in order to create the series they wanted

I think the audience is played all the time by the editing.

But I do think Joe was genuinely surprised that Nick voted for him.

lottiegarbanzo · 07/11/2025 07:22

Editing. Likewise on things like Bake Off. They film huge amounts of material then edit it, knowing who has won, to create tension and tell the story they want.

IPartridge · 07/11/2025 10:01

The order that they reveal who they have voted for at the round table seems to be manipulated to build the suspense. The producer (or whoever) must see who they've voted for and then decide the order.

I haven't seen any previous series though.

Absolutely they choose who to start with (and then go round from) based on that. There’s no way that’s random. Joe voting last in the first vote yesterday, Nick voting last in the second.

Yes lots of details like this to build suspense but are they also perhaps nudged to vote in certain ways to create a narrative and suspense? Like Nick voting for Joe? Or do we think this is all genuine and it’s simply post production editing that builds the tension?

Yes is this the thing with the train? Multiple angles, with no other camera in each shot...... obviously they film all these things multiple times. 'Guys can you all run in a line towards Claudia, look back at the train, smile, scream'.... I actually can't believe anyone doesn't realise these things 😁there will be a sea of production people there, interviews, 1 on 1s, asking leading questions, planting seeds. It's all just for our entertainment.

Clearinguptheclutter · 07/11/2025 13:50

no I think all "natural" albeit heavily edited and I'm sure the producers would have prodded them to discuss various things

However I think Claudia was almost entirely scripted and is completely wasted on this .

ItalianChineseIndianMexican · 07/11/2025 20:26

Aw, I love Claudia on this! And her wardrobe 😍

LemograssLollipop · 07/11/2025 20:43

I thought the first round table was drawn out and lost my interest a little bit. It felt like they had been steered when discussing their choices. BUT still enjoyed the series.

In previous series they have filmed the final scenes when they throw the pouches in the fire outside. I presume the weather wasn't on their side this time.

They all went outside at the end so I guess it was more that they wanted them to all walk out there.

I like her a lot but she’s no Alan Cummings. Alan and his Traitors wardrobe really are next level.

I thought this series that most of her wardrobe was awful. That last jumper and white netty skirt combination was appalling, looked like a 4 year old who wanted to dress up as a fairy but then got cold.
The more I look at her hair on this and on Strictly I'm sure that either her fringe is fake or she's got a fake hair topper, the two have different textures. I think she's becoming a bit of a caricature of herself.

Mydahliasareshit · 07/11/2025 21:09

My guess is the amount of information anyone receives directly correlates with their importance or worth to the show. The most anticipated and expensive series of the year, with many celebrity egos, won't be left entirely to the whim of chance.

So someone legitimately employed on the show might say one thing, and wholly believe it to be true, while others may know exactly what occurs with a select few.

Think of all those panel shows where it was all supposedly wit and bantz (but with a credit list of half a dozen comedy writers that flashed by in an eighth of a second).

She probably takes off her fake fringe and make up and walks down the street without anyone clocking it’s her

stomachamelon · 07/11/2025 21:11

@Buxusmortustruthfully I think after reading her book that she would be ok with that!

I'm still grinning at the aerial shots of the train - at the start it had four carriages and by halfway through (and with no stopping to unhitch and re-hitch), the end two carriages had morphed into open wagons.😁
