Oh dear Stan will need a new racquet now - Baez is having a good tournament

We’ve not had any snow but we’ve got scary black ice today - luckily I don’t have to go anywhere and there is tennis to watch

Raahh · 07/01/2026 12:29

Well done Seb- hard luck Stan.

Jakub Paul seems lovely

Raahh · 07/01/2026 14:17

I missed the end of the doubes - but well done to Switzerland. Belinda is having a great tournament- and Stan fights on for another day Grin(Hope he's got a few more racquets).

Stan said they’re living in a Belinda world Grin Jakub was asked why he hasn’t got a higher ranking because he played so well and he said because he usually doesn’t play with Belinda!

Raahh · 07/01/2026 17:05
Grin Would be nice to see Jakub and Belinda should team up later in the year.

Hope everyone is managing ok with the weather. Yesterday my kids got excited about the potential for a snow day in London but we've had nothing but wind and miserable rain.

I haven't managed to watch much tennis, I always struggle with the Australian swing when I'm not Down Under. Good to see Hubi back and playing well (although I think he's about to lose to ADM), and Grigor.

Fizzywinegum · 09/01/2026 10:34

We have snow here up North Ice - luckily I don’t have to go anywhere today - I’m having a snow/duvet day - hope everyone else is OK

Sonny Kartal just lost out in a close match against Svitolina - I haven’t seen much tennis in the last few days - mainly score watching

I’m pleased to see that the AO have given Stan Bear a wildcard at what will be his last AO - especially as it means that Kyrgios won’t be getting one!

Raahh · 09/01/2026 10:37

Our 'snow' barely lasted the morning the other day, and it's been cold /rainy every day since. I can't say I'm sorry Grin.

I was sorry to see Grigor lose, but it's good to see him back and I agree it's been nice to see Hubi playing well. Not reallysure how the doubles will go - the Aussie pair are the more experienced ii doubles, having Storm Hunter on the team.

Sonay Kartal lost a very close match to Svitolina earlier.

Fizzy I was very pleased about Stan's wild card- they really kept him waiting! Jordy Porntache gets one too, which is nice.

Dick claimed it was his 'choice' not to play in singles and focus on doubles. Yeah, ok Nick. .

Fizzywinegum · 09/01/2026 10:50

Yeah I’m not sure that I believe Nick either! Even Australian tennis have realised he’s irrelevant

IceandIndigo · 09/01/2026 10:51

Yeah, Stan instead of Dick is a massive upgrade, good on the AO. Stan is supposed to be playing in Auckland next week but not sure if he will given Switzerland are still in the United Cup.

I love snow and probably should live somewhere colder. My sister-in-law lives in Aberdeen, they've had masses there and all the schools are closed.

IceandIndigo · 09/01/2026 10:53

Surprised that Iga is not playing in the doubles.

Raahh · 09/01/2026 11:06

I think Iga and Hubi were originally the pair scheduled- they must have decided not to . Iga's own singles match against Joint was hardly onerous though.

IceandIndigo · 09/01/2026 11:28

Gosh Daniil is looking surprisingly... groomed.

Raahh · 09/01/2026 11:55

It's looking like the decision to swap Hubi and Iga for Kawa and Zielinski was wise (so far)- I'd forgotten that Jan has won 2 mixed doubles slams.

I can't watch at the moment, so am flicking through the scores.

Come on Daniil!!

IceandIndigo · 09/01/2026 12:09

Well done Poland!

Raahh · 09/01/2026 12:16

Well done to Poland.

Finally getting chance to watch Daniil- he does look like he's been to the same barber as Casper.

OP posts:
IceandIndigo · 09/01/2026 12:49

Daniil seems to have this match under control now.

Raahh · 09/01/2026 13:01

Well done Daniil!

Well done Daniil.

kazzaD66 · 09/01/2026 15:10

I'm very pleased that Stan got the wildcard. As a former champion and 3-time GS winner, he deserved it in his final year. The guff Dick was coming out with was laughable. I doubt he knows what magnanimous means.

It's Gael's last year aswell. Although he doesn't need a wildcard Grin
Speaking of Gael, I see that Sonay served for the match at 5-3 in the 3rd and only just lost what looked like a very close match, winning two points more than Elina. Shame but well done to her anyway.

IceandIndigo · 10/01/2026 10:00

Really good match between Iga and Coco in the United Cup. Switzerland won the other tie overnight. Daniil going well in Brisbane as well.

IceandIndigo · 10/01/2026 10:06

First set Coco.
