Anyone watching?
I can't decide if I want to watch this year or not.

OP posts:
Bobbiewickham · 11/06/2008 20:12

Sorry love, you are cutting no ice.

You can dress it up however you like, it still sounds just as pathetic.

I have fears, but they don't involve people - that is PEOPLE- with a disability.

Huff and puff all you like. I've made my mind up about your "fears".

DirtySexyMummy · 11/06/2008 20:15

There were people on the therapy course I was on with all sorts of fears.

It is not unusual.

There were people with fear of water (which included rain, BTW)
People with fear of other people
People with fear of the ground
People with fear of speaking
People with fear of food.. all sorts of things.

Have you really never heard of this sort of thing before?

I think it is shocking that you would describe it as pathetic. But, I will put it down to ignorance.

Bobbiewickham · 11/06/2008 20:16

Sorry, I'm sure you didn't need to read that four times.

DSM - sorry, having read your post, I now realise what a thoroughly tolerant person you are, and from now on I shall do my best to understand the irrational fears of those who run screaming from my child.

mybrainaches · 11/06/2008 20:20

BW, I think you are going way overboard here, DSM cant justify herself anymore than she has, I have no irrational fears, yet I understand where she is coming from, and dont find it offensive

DirtySexyMummy · 11/06/2008 20:21

Dear god, I would never run screaming from anything. Of course not. If there is one thing I can do, it is to make sure other people are not aware of my fears when it involves them (which, as it happens, is really quite common)

I think that because of your very understandable personal feelings on this you are never going to understand my point.

I have already apologised for being flippant, and must remember that I am on a forum where anyone can read comments without understanding where they come from.

lazarou · 11/06/2008 20:24

I'm still trying to find the one with the dog by the way, if anyone cares? No? oh....

mybrainaches · 11/06/2008 20:25

lol, I rearly cant remember that one, and I have seen them all, are you sure you did'nt dream it, as I tend to dream about BB over the summer.......most annoying

lazarou · 11/06/2008 20:28

No, it was a cute little mongrel dog. I'm sure a dog went in, but I just can't find it. I've discovered a lot of other big brother sites for other countries along the way though.

Bobbiewickham · 11/06/2008 20:30

Well, mybrainaches, as one who has no irrational fears, you really have performed a leap of consciousness to understand the pain of one who is frightened of albinos. I'm sorry if I have offended your tolerant and understanding nature.

I myself have a fear of people with prejudices. Sorry, I'm not over it yet, so I'm off to read my little boy a bedtime story instead of wasting my time understanding the phobias of grown women who need to get over themselves and keep their yucky prejudices to themselves.

And if that's going overboard, tough titty.

DirtySexyMummy · 11/06/2008 20:30

Ooh I remember the dog. They had it as a pet for a task i think..

It was a wee Scottie dog.

lazarou · 11/06/2008 20:32

Yes! I knew it wasn't all in my head!

DirtySexyMummy · 11/06/2008 20:32

Bobbie - good idea. Go away and calm down and then when you come back, re-read my posts, please.

Then we can possibly have a proper discussion about this? I would like that, as I would like to try and explain to you that when people have fears of things, it is not through choice, and it is not done to offend.

I hope you do come back

Tillyboo · 11/06/2008 20:32

For those having 'a go' at DSM', try reading this ...

There is no need to insult anyone here, DSM has explained herself and said she knows her fear is irrational and I think people should respect her very 'real' fear.

I don't like to see people insulted, it's rude and unnecessary and so feel compelled to respond. I think this topic needs to be put to bed now before more upset and anger is caused.

Night, night ...

DirtySexyMummy · 11/06/2008 20:35

In fact - just some food for thought - there was one woman on my course who had a fear of children and pregnant women.

Also - to add - telling people with psychiatric problems (which is how it is classed, by the way) that their feelings are 'yucky prejudices' and to 'get over themselves' really shows a lack of empathy.

I could take great offence to many of the things you have said, but I am trying not to as I can understand your point of view, and have a reasonable conversation about it. Could you extend the courtesy?

lovelysongbird · 11/06/2008 20:37

so who do you think will go 1st?

Bobbiewickham · 11/06/2008 20:37

Yes,you see I still have a problem with your use of the word "things".

Because, you see, an albino isn't a "thing".

It is a person lacking pigmentation.

You are objectifying. And you are right. I am sensitive about this. As anyone who is close to - or in fact is- a person with a condition they were born with.

So you should think before you are flippant on a public forum.

Just because there aren't that many people with albinisim about, it doesn't make them fair game to have - ahem- phobias about.

And for the record, there are many other incidences of people with other types of SN in my family too, and I'd defend them on here if I had to. But funnily enough, I haven't had to, up to now.

Now, if only albinism was more common....

Raahh · 11/06/2008 20:38

hopefully Steph, but i suspect Mario, as splitting up him and Lisa would be a really good plot twist (in the eyes of BB, though of course there is no plot!) [grin

lazarou · 11/06/2008 20:39

Mario will go first I reckon.

Bobbiewickham · 11/06/2008 20:40

Oh dear, do you really think that getting cross about a flippant and insulting comment about albinos shows a lack of empathy for people with psychiatric problems?

Really?

Seems like a massive exercise in self-justification to me.

Whatever....

Raahh · 11/06/2008 20:40

agree- he has portrayed himself as a bit of a tosser.....

posieflump · 11/06/2008 20:40

bloody hell

lovelysongbird · 11/06/2008 20:43

id like stef to stay.

Raahh · 11/06/2008 20:44

indeed, posieflump (love your name, btw).

DirtySexyMummy · 11/06/2008 20:45

BW - have you actually read my posts?

I say 'things' because there are many things people can have fear of. People are one.

You are absolutely taking this far too personally and not looking at it objectively, though I understand why.

I met a woman with a fear of men. All men.
I met a woman with a fear of children and pregnant women.
I met a man with a fear of SN (incidentally, the same condition as my sister)
I met people with fear of water, fear of germs, fear of light, fear of dark..

Without going into too much detail, because frankly its not the point, but one of my worst fears was agoraphobia, I had a fear of going outside, being outside, and fear of people I did not know. It was one of many.

Nothing is 'fair game' to have a phobia about. It can ruin your life. And you should be thankful that you don't have these problems.
