This is what I said last night.

You can’t enter a relationship by saying you’re damaged from a previous one and you need the new person to overcompensate.

You have to heal first, or at least heal alone via therapy while in a new relationship, rather than demanding constant reassurance from the start. It’s draining. Though, of course, someone who cares about you (whether friend or romantic partner) should be sensitive to your past trauma and needs.

Having said that, Stephen isn’t as naturally demonstrative, reassuring, supportive and sensitive as Nelly needs. Not convincing he was ever really looking for love, or that into her. Seems to be riding the process out.
