I don't like how Mark is being so aggressive and banging his fists on the table. Theres no need for it.

Hanschristiananderson · 20/10/2025 18:21

Another one disappointed with Mark Bonnar. He really isn’t coming across well.

To be fair, that also happens in the regular version.
In fact, it gets more raucous when they get a traitor out.

the80sweregreat · 20/10/2025 18:32

Mark is just frustrated I guess. It’s a tinder box in that castle !

LindorDoubleChoc · 20/10/2025 18:38

It's OK @RubieChewsDay. You don't need to try and explain it to me, I am happy with thinking Cat's argument is nonsense, much as I admire her. I suppose the fact that she managed to get it past JR is very much in her favour.

We've just had DS (at Uni) home for the weekend. He casually says "oh yeah, I was in Cat's TikTok video the one that went viral". I tried searching for it but can't watch as I don't do TikTok. He also fully knew who Niko is - but obs not watching Celeb Traitors on the TV like his square old parents Grin.

It’s a bit more copped on than the UK version, with more sarcasm (‘Yeah, I’m totally a traitor, going around murdering like mad’) and a bit less hysterical ‘I swear to you on on my granny’s life thst I’m a faithful!’ The tasks are have a budget of about €2.50, though.

But at least Siobhán McSwe3ney can pronounce ‘banshee’. And the funeral is better, and has keening and sandwiches.

Wait, how do you pronounce banshee, if not ban-shee?🤔

The Ban and the Shee need to be elongated slightly (with equal stress on both syllables). Unless you're Irish you probably don't hear a difference.

The funeral was very good especially the shaking hands offering condolences.

I read earlier Paudie and Andrew and going to be joining Gogglebox Ireland. I'm looking forward to Paudie's comments.

I was a huge Mark Bonnar fan before this show but I've totally gone off him now, which is so disappointing. His reason for voting for Tameka was entirely spurious and yet he clung to it. He seems insecure and a bit daft.

@LindorDoubleChoc an article popped up on my phone the other day that I can't find now but it said that in an incident not shown in the edit Tameka had a slip of the tongue and referred to herself as a traitor. I assume Mark heard this so did have a reason for targeting her, even if it turned out that it was a genuine slip of the tongue.

The weakness of the show is that we are only shown a tiny percentage of what is said and done in castle so something can seem like a baseless attack but the accusations actually have a fairly solid basis (even if that basis was incorrect).

in a previous series I seem to remember a traitor being voted out at the round table for no reason. Afterwards it came out that on doing impressions of Claudia the traitor said ‘evening/hello traitors’ so would only have heard that in the traitors tower. It then made sense.

Ahh, interesting. I am a Scottish incomer and it's interesting where the emphasis is sometimes different, probably more with place names eg BearsDEN as opposed to WILLSden or HARLSden.

I remember that impersonation of Claudia saying "hello Traitors" (can't remember who did it but that's just my memory) but I don't think it was hidden from the viewers? It was broadcast as it happened.

NewAgeNewMe · 20/10/2025 20:16

i may well have it wrong
wouldn’t be the first time!

LindorDoubleChoc · 20/10/2025 20:18

In England I think we'd say Banshee to rhyme with Banksy. No pause, no emphasis on the second syllable.

CarefulN0w · 20/10/2025 20:34

Finally caught up with uncloaked and I have to say I thought Ruth came over better. Although she dug in over the allies/alliance I felt there was some humour there. I also thought Diane being on with her was great. Diane’s a good interviewer.

I think the second syllable is more stressed than in Banksy - in fact, I think the Banksy pronunciation is what a few people got a bit annoyed by as this is how Claudia said it.

LindorDoubleChoc · 20/10/2025 20:37

Claudia pronounced it "wrong" and it annoyed people? Good lord. You could have a fight in a vacuum on Mumsnet these days.

I've started watching S.1. and it was Alyssa who apparently said it and was banished, but actually that was never broadcast - it only came up afterwards when Rayan said he heard he say it, but never brought it up. I had to Google as I thought it was what caused her to go, but it wasn't.

Nobody is having a fight. People are merely discussing.
Good lord, everyone on MN over exaggerates these days 🙄

Yes I think that is how an English person would say Banshee, Claudia exaggerated it for effect.

Im Scottish so it is Ban. - Shee

Agree about Diane, she was very good in that. Very astute.

Long and insulting tradition of Brits mispronouncing Irish words in situations where there’s no excuse to — would you not be irritated if the state broadcaster of a neighbouring country, with an official pronunciation unit, persistently mispronounced ‘Prime Minister’ and ‘House of Commons’?

LindorDoubleChoc · 20/10/2025 21:49

People in different countries/with different accents say words differently shock.

Seeing Charlotte and Jonathan in the same room brought back a long-forgotten memory of a teenage Charlotte appearing on Jonathan's show and Jonathan greeting her by saying, "Charlotte, thank God for puberty!"

I thought that joke was off at the time. Apparently, Charlotte was only 15 and she'd first appeared on one of Jonathan's shows when she was 11 (her big break).

Charlotte doesn't seem to bear a grudge though, as she's appeared on his shows a few times as an adult.
