Is anyone watching this? It’s so sad. Why are social media morons so convinced that there is something more to this? Feel so sorry for the family watching this.

Id have thought you'd have to have a heart oa stone to watch his mum and not feel desperately sad for her. I'm genuinely surprised that you could be so unfeeling

You see I am always surprised when there are threads on here about random people (the Nicole Kidman divorce one) and people are so upset and involved. we are just al different in what affects us or what we let affect us or what we have headspace for. Nothing would get done if we were all the types to go to pieces over someone we don't know - not saying we don't have empathy. But it was an accident, they happen, of course it's sad that a mother has lost her child but what about all the other kids that die, why this one - it's only because the media have told us to be interested.

Mum massively downplayed the drugs in his system. Her attitude was it was what all teenagers do. Err no it isn’t.

Have you got teens? Have they been on clubbing type holidays? Did you go on clubbing type holidays when you were a young adult? Loads of young adults take drugs on these holidays.

Some people really are naive.

Toddlerteaplease · 30/09/2025 19:23

@HowManyFilmsCanIWatchInARownooe never went clubbing!

AngelofIslington · 30/09/2025 19:29

I watched it. I felt for the family, there are lots of youngsters that think they are invincible and end up making silly choices that their family then need to live with the consequences of.
As for all of those shown on the programme stating that they knew what happened, all of the conspiracy theorists came across as idiots.
As the saying goes “empty vessels make the most noise”

It's nothing to do with any media interest, I would be heartbroken watching any mother talking about the death of their child, I can't really understand why anyone wouldn't feel like that

It doesn't bring tears to my eyes because of the social media craziness, it's human empathy for a mother having lost her child

Obviously I'm not going to pieces, that would be strange and as a adult with a brain of course I'm not sad because the media told me to be, thats actually quite insulting.

Also, 100% this. Where is all the 'GoFundMe' money? And why no mention of the machete attack on the lad who Jay attacked? As has been said, I am not glad he is dead, but am struggling to feel any sadness about it. Also cannot fathom why his story/death received so much attention and publicity.

Signi Zoekhonden the Dutch search team were given money from the
Go Fund Me and a lot was used to pay for food and accommodation.
According to Jay Slaters mum.

If you’ve not been in the environment, then you have no idea. Do you have teens/young adult kids that could discuss the reality with you, because maybe it would make you less judgemental.

I don’t believe my kids would take drugs, but you can never say never. I’d never judge or be horrible to a mother, like you mare because you just don’t know. Judge not, lest ye be judged.

ButterPiesAreGreat · 30/09/2025 20:50

I started watching this but couldn’t do it. Jay was same age as DS(literally about 6 weeks difference in age), we live in the same county - and the social media posts spread to us before it became a national thing -plus DS also likes to go to festivals. It felt way too close to home.

Pricelessadvice · 30/09/2025 21:42

Im just watching it now. The poor family.
He clearly was no angel but he was a young lad on holiday and he made a stupid mistake.

Those internet ‘detectives’ are disgusting.

EdithBond · 01/10/2025 06:35

Boxfuls · 30/09/2025 11:35

I haven't seen much of this since the original search/campaign. What is the conspiracy?

Was he mixed up in drug dealing, as it was rumoured? How much money did they make from the Go Fund Me and what happened to it?

I'd have thought any balanced documentary should have covered that.

No evidence he was dealing, as far as I know. But no doubt it goes on.

Seems the ongoing discussion/speculation is because his friends, plus the two men he went off with, told conflicting versions of what happened.

Not clear why two men in their 30s would want to take a wrecked teenager to their remote holiday cottage an hour’s drive into the mountains, when he was with all his friends near his accommodation on the coast.

Plus, one of the men wasn’t long out of jail after 9 years for county lines. So, that rang alarm bells for some people. The other couldn’t be located to be summoned to tell the inquest what happened.

Jay said he’d stolen a £10k watch and was going with them to sell it. Conflicting statements about that too. But inquest deemed it irrelevant to his subsequent death. Not clear why he decided to leave so abruptly and without charging phone, but told friends he couldn’t go back. Pathologist couldn’t rule out he’d been pushed.

The family clearly need peace to grieve.

PrizedPickledPopcorn · 01/10/2025 06:58

I can’t imagine the devastation of losing a child.

The lad was caught up in a dangerous life style though- the point of risky behaviour is that it carries risk! It’s inevitable.

The only unusual element of this sad story was all the media involvement with friends and family. And it’s still underway, it seems.

AramintaWildbloode · 01/10/2025 07:36

I couldn’t believe his mum wanted his post mortem shown on television.
It seemed like the ultimate indignity to me to see a part of his liver held up in a sample pot and hear the examiner talking about cleaning “the head”.

I thought his mum just looked so disappointed and regretful when she saw the CCTV of Jay in the club... he looked very lost. She said something like "I don't recognise that side of him".
My mum was very naïve when we were young and my youngest sister was heavily into raving at about 17 - I knew she and her friend took ecstasy but to my mum she was a fun-loving girl who didn't touch alcohol and only drank water out "dancing". The friend even slept over, I'm sure because her mum was much more aware than mine. One of their friends drove back on ecstasy after a rave, crashed his car and died.

Nevertriedcaviar · 02/10/2025 21:38

I have just finished watching the documentary. I can't even begin to imagine the heartbreak of losing a child, no matter what the circumstances. I know that I would never get over it, and neither will his mum. RIP Jay.

Newlittlerescue · 02/10/2025 21:59

Why did the family invite a whole documentary crew into their lives to film the autopsy and funeral and to have his toxicology report read out on camera?!

This happened to be in the Coroner's Court jurisdiction that features in Channel 5's "Cause of Death" documentary series (I actually recognised the female case officer first). So presumably the investigation was already being filmed (perhaps same production company?) for a later episode of that programme.

Yes. I think they used some of the footage from that. As it was exactly the same as in that programme. It’s a really interesting series.

At a guess they probably thought putting the facts out there would mean the conspiracy theories would stop.
No idea about the go fund me.
As for his mum not shedding tears.. Did you watch it? I was in tears just witnessing her reaction, she is very obviously heartbroken.

God, his poor mother looked absolutely broken,at one point she looked like she hadn't the energy to cry as she'd cried so much she would keel over if she shed another tear.

Who messaged his mum when they were flying over, I missed that?

I live in Lancashire so watching that show can be very weird as they are often in places I know quite well.

Dr Adeley is retiring soon so I wonder what will happen to the programme after he goes.

I will never understand why he decided to try and walk back in that heat, with no water and no food and also clearly hanging. The guys offered him a lift, even his mate said she will get him a taxi or she will go get him.

I imagine it wasn’t so straightforward as that, but we’ll never know, and sadly, neither will his parents. We don’t need to know anyway, it’s just very sad regardless of what happened.

Same reason Michael Mosley did I imagine, they thought they knew best. Such a waste .
