Is anyone watching this? It’s so sad. Why are social media morons so convinced that there is something more to this? Feel so sorry for the family watching this.

OP posts:

I'm just watching it now.
Why did the family invite a whole documentary crew into their lives to film the autopsy and funeral and to have his toxicology report read out on camera?! Especially after the intrusion they'd suffered from online. You'd think they'd want to pull up the drawbridge but instead they've just doubled down on the exposure. And what happened to the GoFundMe money? And why does his mum never have tears in her eyes when she 'cries'?
The whole thing is weird from beginning to end.

Pound signs ???

Initially I believe it was for to fund the travel and accommodation while they were still looking for him.

Yes, but what happened to it. How could there be a whole documentary on the subject and that not be covered?

Have people forgotten about the machete attack on the poor lad he was involved ?

I haven’t!

I am not happy he died but wasn’t a nice lad. I’m sure the conspiracy theories were hard for his family but I am still surprised how much coverage the whole thing got. And have his family said what did they with all the money they got from the Go Fund Me

Same. Him dying doesn’t suddenly make him a nice person.

JaquiRussell · 28/09/2025 22:05

I'm not finding it particularly sad. He was heavily under the influence and fell.

I'm surprised it got the coverage it did 😔

But a young lad falling and dying is sad no matter what the circumstances.

youalright · 30/09/2025 17:28

There seriously needs to be stricter laws around social media.

LemondrizzleShark · 30/09/2025 17:35

Boxfuls · 30/09/2025 11:35

I haven't seen much of this since the original search/campaign. What is the conspiracy?

Was he mixed up in drug dealing, as it was rumoured? How much money did they make from the Go Fund Me and what happened to it?

I'd have thought any balanced documentary should have covered that.

Oh where do you start? The most ridiculous one is that he isn’t actually dead…

Yes I remember that one.. Nothing about this lad sounds pleasant.

Thindog · 30/09/2025 17:46

Sad that any lad loses his life, but the documentary only told the story from the parents' point of view. No friends or other contacts appeared to contribute to the programme. Parents obviously only told what a lovely boy he was, no mention of the machete attack or his drug involvement.
Why did the parents court the press and Social Media to such an extent, and then be surprised and upset by the outpouring of the armchair detectives?
Who were the men he went off with and why?
Where did the £70 000 GoFundMe money go?

100% this. ^

Also, 100% this. Where is all the 'GoFundMe' money? And why no mention of the machete attack on the lad who Jay attacked? As has been said, I am not glad he is dead, but am struggling to feel any sadness about it. Also cannot fathom why his story/death received so much attention and publicity.

🙄 Some mumsnetters were as bad and mumsnet let the threads stand, so it’s not just those on TikTok that share blame in this shit show.

Some mumsnetters should be ashamed, the way they were when Nicola Bulley disappeared and when the boys died in the lake are two more examples of some posters disgusting behaviour. It’s like they forget there are real people and their families behind it all. It’s just like a Netflix series to them.

AnneElliott · 30/09/2025 18:07

I watched this and felt sorry for the family, although they downplayed the drug taking and the conviction for violent disorder. They made it sound like all teenagers behave like that - which was news to me!

The two blokes in the Air B&B seem awful and likely they know more than what they’re saying. I don’t though understand why he didn’t sit in the cafe and wait for the bus?

Toddlerteaplease · 30/09/2025 18:17

Mum massively downplayed the drugs in his system. Her attitude was it was what all teenagers do. Err no it isn’t.

Lots do, She’s hardly going to go on television and say… Well he loved clubbing and cocaine so you know.. I can’t believe after witnessing her heartbreak people are still tearing her to shreds.

CantSleepEver · 30/09/2025 18:29

She is a grieving mum and it’s probably a self protection thing. And a lot of teenagers do drugs unfortunately. Ime, even more when they relax on holiday. I’m thankful that my teens don’t, they’re very anti drugs, but I do know otherwise good teens that have gone wild on holiday or have gone through a spell of taking drugs between 18-21. Look at the amount of mumsnetters who admit to doing weed, coke etc on nights out.

Do you have teens or young adult children @Toddlerteaplease?

Quite, I think a lot of people are clueless. I’d be very surprised if that person has teens or young adult children.

Yes! Thank you for bringing that up, I've just been reading through the thread, reading posters point the finger at other social media sites, thinking exactly the same.

Perhaps places like TikTok were creating videos speculating and whipping people up and maybe MNers weren't the ones creating the conspiracies, but plenty of people on here were actively participating in the frenzy, and revelling in it too.

Even on this thread, and even after seeing the mother's devastation with their own eyes and ears, still can't bring themselves to either show compassion or just not comment.

People bringing up money that others willingly donated to the family, as if it's their right to know what they did with it. As if a grieving mother would possibly feel that losing her son was the perfect time to cash in and take advantage of the public or something and now she's greedily snuffled it away. What are people thinking?

Ugh I actually left MN at the time because I was so disgusted in the attitude here, I only just recently returned and now I'm reminded of it all over again.

Yep. Some mumsnetters were just as bad as those on TikTok etc, I suspect some of them were on TikTok making the horrible comments as well as being on here doing it. It’s a certain type of person.

Not if they're watched the documentary as it was quite freely discussed

Why has this case even got a documentary and why did it get somemucb media coverage for a low level criminal drug user?

I would imagine as it is quite polarising like this thread and they know people will watch it, so some people saying poor lad , just a typical teenager and others saying err loads of drugs and a criminal conviction and boasting he had stolen a watch.

I read the article in the Times, what struck me was that he really could do no wrong in his mums eyes. The cheeky chappie school of rememberance.

I suspect that a large number of clubbers in summer holiday islands do exactly that, lads holidays are hardly known for reading books round the pool and wholesome evening walks

The machete attack is in the Times article, I think his mum says he was just in the area so nothing to do with him.

Iirc at the time the person who was the victim of the attack said that Jay was there but wasn't one of the main attackers
