Used to watch Dave Allen with my dad, I liked Dave Allen

I think some of it went over my head but liked the Jekyll and Hyde sketch😀

RaraRachael · 14/09/2025 20:39

It's a Knockout and That's Life

Hated both of them

JoanChitty · 14/09/2025 20:40

Yes to Sing Something Simple with the Cliff Adams singers @TigerDroveAgain @TwoLeftSocksWithHoles .
Also Two Way Family Favourites on a Sunday lunchtime with Cliff Michelmore. This was just before my mum would serve the Sunday roast.

My gran made me watch fergie’s wedding on a b&w tv. I’m sure it was a sunny day & I wanted to be playing outside!

SwedishEdith · 14/09/2025 20:53

God, I'd forgotten about Within These Walls and Googie Withers 😄

I wasn't forced to watch anything but, like a lot of PPs, if there was only one tv and you wanted to watch tv, you didn't have much choice. I was not allowed to watch Rock Follies though.

Gladysknightgottogetaholdofmyself · 14/09/2025 21:28

Don't remember Rock Follies?

CameForAVacationStayedForTheRevolution · 14/09/2025 21:29

Not a show but a movie….my mother was obsessed with making me and my brother watch Zulu at least once a year. As a small kid I was always bored shitless.

Maybe your mum wouldn't let you watch it either

StepawayfromtheLindors · 14/09/2025 22:04

That's a distinct possibility 😀👍

GlitchStitch · 14/09/2025 22:16

The soaps, talk shows like Wogan, game shows, every sunday night Catherine Cookson drama that ever aired, Heartbeat.

Sitcoms like Butterflies, You Rang My Lord, Watching etc.

I would always watch sports with my Dad- Match of the Day, athletics, snooker and Question of Sport.

I don't understand why a mum would make someone watch ER. how odd

Unclench. It’s the days where most families sat together to watch tv. I was forced to watch soaps or I could do other things which didn’t involve a tv.

suburburban · 14/09/2025 20:34

Watched Dave Allen and New Avengers with my df. He never seemed to mind me staying up past 9

Me and my mum used to watch Dave Allen while my dad was at the pub!

Oh dear. Please spare your kids 🤣🤣

Dutchhouse14 · 14/09/2025 22:45

I was about 10 before I found out children's TV on ITV existed, my mum only approved of childrens programmes on BBC.
Other than that we had one TV and my mum generally chose what to watch, we could sit and watch with her or go into our freezing cold bedrooms!
I can remember - It aint half hot mum, Are you being served?, generation game, Open all hours, last of the summer wine, antiques road show, songs of praise, that's life, coronation street, Wogan, blankety blank...

moto748e · 14/09/2025 23:12

The White Heather Club.

RaraRachael · 14/09/2025 23:13

We only had BBC1 and ITV (Grampian) growing up. I hated Budget day as kids programmes moved to BBC2 which we didn't get.
Got a colour telly in 1976 which was amazing.
Like PPs said the whole house had to be silent when my dad announced

"Shsst, my scores!" on a Saturday afternoon.

I was forced to watch a lot of musical show like Val Doonica etc and homegrown Scottish shite like Welcome to the Ceilidh and Thingummyjig

This name won't mean anything to anyone else.
Jimmy Spanky came to mind when you mentioned Grampian tv

moto748e · 14/09/2025 23:21

Val Doonican, God, yes!

Solaire18381 · 14/09/2025 23:21

Coronation Street (I hated it)
Dallas & Dynasty (didn't mind parts of them, in fact I'd quite like to watch them now!)

I remember World in Action, Panorama, The News at Ten, moreso the music more than the actual programmes. They always seemed to be on. Probably when I was off to, or already in bed.

Cleo65 · 14/09/2025 23:23

Nope - I wasn't forced to watch any, if I didn't like what they were watching then orf I trotted. I wasn't paying the TV licence....

JenniferBooth · 14/09/2025 23:24

moto748e · 14/09/2025 23:21

Val Doonican, God, yes!

Including the Christmas special

ChocolateCinderToffee · 14/09/2025 23:25

Endless bloody football.

moto748e · 14/09/2025 23:25

I remember one I was specially allowed up late to watch by my Mum: Crane, with Patrick Allen.
