sciaticafanatica · 14/09/2025 17:42

MumChp · 14/09/2025 17:42

None.
Mum only watched the news.

iCod · 14/09/2025 17:43

None
Watching anything that wasn't educational was common
Magazines also common,
TV was pretty louche in general

iCod · 14/09/2025 17:44

I don't understand why a mum would make someone watch ER. how odd

theDudesmummy · 14/09/2025 17:44

The World at War

EchoedSilence · 14/09/2025 17:45

Cricket. Thanks Dad.

MemorableTrenchcoat · 14/09/2025 17:45

There was only one TV in the house, so pretty much everything.

herbalteabag · 14/09/2025 17:45

I wasn't forced to watch anything but the TV was on all evening every day so I saw whatever was on it. We could watch anything we liked and my parents watched whatever they wanted whether we were in the room or not.

Maneattraction · 14/09/2025 17:45

Crossroads!

I would not say we were forced to watch it, however, there was only 1 TV at the time at home and Crossroads would take precedence at whatever time it was on. No chance of a channel change while that was on. So it was either watch that or watch nothing at that time.

HangingOver · 14/09/2025 17:45

Blue Bloody Peter. Because Wholesome.

Littletreefrog · 14/09/2025 17:47

Heartbeat and Antiques Roadshow. The Simpsons was strictly forbidden as it would rot my brain.

jettisoned · 14/09/2025 17:51

Songs of Praise, Antiques Roadshow, the London Marathon (to see if they could spot Jimmy Savile 🤮) Local BBC News.

Nothing on ITV as it was common.

suburburban · 14/09/2025 17:56

Nothing but I always wanted pop on in car and sometimes they let us listen to top 40 but mum had Terry Wogan on in car in morning or Radio 4 in the house and my df listened to classical

Lowarnes · 14/09/2025 17:57

Sons & Daughters

JacknDiane · 14/09/2025 17:58

Tenko

PraisebetoGod · 14/09/2025 17:58

Star trek 😑

MrsMoastyToasty · 14/09/2025 18:03

Coronation Street (1970s-1980s)
Dallas
Dynasty
Nationwide
Morecambe and Wise
Black and white minstrel show
Generation Game
The golf.

GingerPaste · 14/09/2025 18:05

The Waltons. We wanted to watch something trashy on ITV instead (Love Thy Neighbour, I think). We complained like hell but ended up loving The Waltons (‘Goodnight Jim Bob’)!

AutieAdult · 14/09/2025 18:18

last of the summer wine. As a child I never got the point. Not sure i would now. Found the tune sad as was the end of the weekend. I didn’t mind Antiques road show. I enjoyed seeing some actually interesting things and people trying to compose their faces when they thought they had something very valuable and it was worth a few quid and they had to come out with how it was priceless because their aunt left it to them.

Lovewine1975 · 14/09/2025 19:22

Coronation Street with my mum, still watch it to this day!

Gwenhwyfar · 14/09/2025 19:36

None.
Do you just mean that you only had one TV? As I grew older we got other ones so we could watch something in our rooms.

NewYorkSummer · 14/09/2025 19:42

Those of us with only one tv are showing our age here 😁
I wasn’t forced to watch anything, but I agree with a pp that Antiques Roadshow and Last of the Summer Wine signalled the end of the weekend and back to school 😒

The theme tune to Antiques Roadshow still gives me a momentary panic that I haven't done my homework 🤣

Highway to heaven. They adored that show. It seemed to be on all the time
