Not the most exciting title.

I suppose Laver Cup and Davis Cup must be happening too soon.

Now that Carlos has withdrawn from Shanghai, Corentin Moutet gets his place in the draw!

IceandIndigo · 01/10/2025 09:50

Sonay Kartal is going pretty well against Mirra Andreeva, all on serve in the first set.

IceandIndigo · 01/10/2025 09:52

Forza Matteo!

IceandIndigo · 01/10/2025 10:00

Oh well. Well done Adrian.

Raahh · 01/10/2025 10:23

I missed the end of Matteo's match (I spent ages on the phone trying to get through to the hospital about an appointment). Shame he lost.

Good start for Sonay. But looks like Mirra is doing better in the second set.

Marin won his first round match, I see,

Gael has released a statement saying he's going to retire at the end of the 2026 season.

Speaking of golden oldies, Bear plays in Shanghai later.

And well done to Patten and Heliovaara for winning the final. I can't get used to all these tournaments going on at the same time, finals played on a Tuesday etc. It messes with my head and is just ridiculous!Confused

librauk · 01/10/2025 11:24

Come on , Sonay , you can do it .

IceandIndigo · 01/10/2025 11:26

Sonay-Mirra match seems like a real arm wrestle.

Raahh · 01/10/2025 11:47

kazza finals played mid week are just ridiculous Grin.

Sonay is not giving up on this on this one.

Gael is sticking it out to next year- I hope he manages to do that without injuries forcing him out,

Wow.

Well done Sonay. Great result.

Well done Sonay! Massive win for her.

librauk · 01/10/2025 11:51

Yes !!!

Raahh · 01/10/2025 11:51

She played very well- really kept her focus.

Don't think Mirra was too happy.

Score watching....well done Sonay! Great result. She needs to let Emma in on how not to fall apart in the 3rd set! Hmm

Fizzywinegum · 01/10/2025 11:55

Wow well done Sonay! Just managed to see the last few points - good to see Jeremy Bates Grin

Switching the sky box on and off usually works Raahh Grin

I can’t keep up with all the tournaments starting and finishing on weird days kazza - surely a weekend final will get more TV and in person viewers than a random Tuesday or Wednesday Confused

kazzaD66 · 01/10/2025 12:01

I think it's ridiculous fizzy. And* *if I'm getting confused, I'm sure the players are aswell! Men's finals in Japan and China but women still playing China, whilst Shanghai already started Confused
Wibble wibble wibble Grin

Saw Jeremy Bates at La Manga 8 years ago. Still a ridiculously fit bloke and wiped the floor with the club professionals, who were probably 35 years younger, in an exhibition match!

ChessieFL · 01/10/2025 12:05

Brilliant win for Sonay! Really pleased for her although I do like Mirra too so am disappointed for her.

Raahh · 01/10/2025 12:21

Chessie I like Mirra too- and I think she saw this as a big opportunity. She's has got a lot better at containing her emotions (she is still very young) but this loss would have stung a bit.

This has been an odd match- but the way the commentators are talking, you would think Iga had never lost to anyone before(not that she has yet) Or that Navarro was ranked outside the top 100. Iga is fallible. Ask Ostapenko Grin
All that being said, I would rather Iga won this match than Emma.

OP posts:
IceandIndigo · 01/10/2025 14:39

Gosh what’s going on with Iga?

Raahh · 01/10/2025 14:42

Well. That was a funny old match.

Can't warm to Navarro at all.

Raahh · 01/10/2025 14:45

70 unforced errors. Blimey.

Looks very hot in Shanghai, has been a match with a fair bit of drama between Cazaux and Martinez.

Errani and Paolini have withdrawn from the doubles- not surprised by that, though it's a shame for Sara.

Neal and Joe have qualified for the year end finals in doubles, although Neal hasn't been playing with Joe since the US Open. Confusing, this doubles malarky Grin.

OP posts:
ChessieFL · 02/10/2025 11:59

Have Jasmine and Sara definitely withdrawn? BBC shows them getting a walkover in the quarterfinal because their opponents presumably withdrew. Are the BBC just behind?
