Sad to see Petra end her career with such a heavy defeat - would have been nice for her to get a few more games on the board. Caroline Garcia has also finished her career here but she made more of a match of hers.

A few surprising results overnight - Daniil and Madison but I also noticed Elina Svitolina was beaten.

Pleased to see the Brits doing well so far - but those playing today have tough matches.

Glad to see Holger won (I fell asleep) and then woke up see that Casper was about to win, which was good.
Some good matches today- Bublik plays Cilic, which I'm not sure how that will go (and would rathr they were not playing each other this early). Very tough first round for Musetti against GMP.
Stef playing Alexander Muller, who he played in Rome(?) I think, and beat there. He's is not having a great year, his slam record this year is much like Daniil's (2 first round and a second round loss) . I don't think the US Open has ever been one of his strongest slams though.

Carlos getting a terrible haircut from his brother and having to shave it off feels like such a 22-year old thing to do. It’s a shame he’s mangled his hair because his purple kit looks great on him. Surely Foe or one of the other Americans could have helped him find a barber in New York?!

So many good matches this evening.

I'm watching Lore/GMP. Early days.

I can’t bring myself to watch Lore’s match. I just find GMP’s style of play to be unbearable, although he seems like a lovely guy. I am watching Denis against Marton.

I’m not a fan of GMP’s playing style - hope that Lore can withstand the servebot

I’m not a fan of the red trainers that a lot of the female players seem to be wearing - they remind me of Noddy shoes!

Will admit, I don't like the constant aces- he doesn't have any variation. There are other big servers who manage to have a more rounded game.
Inevitably, it ends up with a bunch of tie break.
