For a bit of Sunday fun
I'll go first....
One of the female cops has a bad sister who is a drug addict or something like that, or a male cop has a drug addict brother.
Who's next?

The main boss is always under pressure for results yesterday. And probably also taking bribes from the local criminal underworld.

DollopOfFun · 27/07/2025 19:17

The detective who is forced (because of a gunshot injury, or partner dying etc) to see a psychologist, even though they think it's a load of codswallop.

Mondaytuesdayhappydays · 27/07/2025 19:19

The idealistc enthusiastic, fresh faced side kick who the lead Cop/Detective is obligated to take under their burnt out, cynical, hardened wing.
Invariably they have to go on a journey in which side kick fucks up and kicks a bin or goes jogging very fast under an underpass, but then uncovers something that leads to the solving of the crime. This usually illicits a ‘you're ok kid’ type of response from hardened Cop who then allows then to drive or such like

Soonenough · 27/07/2025 19:21

Despite disobeying orders or still drinking on the job they never get fired .

Mondaytuesdayhappydays · 27/07/2025 19:22

Also the back story of alcohol addiction / extra marital affair / not committing in relationships or ‘letting anyone get close’ Also the female cop/side kick so dedicated to her job she doesn’t have time to wash her work shirts so she walks around in her bra while pinning hair up and toothbrush hanging out mouth, while fishing one out the wash basket and putting it on super quick

absolute cringe fest …

BreakfastOfWaffles · 27/07/2025 19:23

One of their family members is fleetingly a suspect. It turns out it wasn't them, but the fact that TV detective momentarily considered that it could have been, makes for a tricky relationship next episode.

ghostyslovesheets · 27/07/2025 19:25

There is a mysterious family/friend death or disappearance that still haunts them and makes them stare brooding into the middle distance.

SydneyCarton · 27/07/2025 19:26

In episode two when the suspect is first interviewed he answers no comment to everything with folded arms and a cocky grin, but by episode five when they know it’s him he sings like a canary, usually without a solicitor.

Yes and the fleeting flash backs near water, or trees, a child’s hand hovering over a corn field, a girl in a white dress, or flames

and then in the end the back story has no resemblance to the fragments of memory teasers!

And ominous flashbacks of someone walking slowly up the stairs while a child hides/peers from behind a door only seeing the feet!

Shuddabeenabloke · 27/07/2025 19:31

Detectives investigating a very violent crime follow leads that all seem to point to a male suspect, before the 'twist' that the perpetrator is in fact a woman.

LilyAnn13 · 27/07/2025 19:32

Thanks so much everyone for responding to this.
I LOVE them! 😂

Ramblingaway · 27/07/2025 19:33

The suspects all talk at length under questioning, despite the fact in real life it would have been 'no comment' all the way

magpie234 · 27/07/2025 19:34

There is a scene in which the spouse and/or children becomes upset with the police detective for putting work above family. Without fail. Every time.

ButtSurgery · 27/07/2025 19:34

Uniformed coppers handling evidence with bare hands (see also: Interceptors etc) which gives me the rage.

Detectives in high heels, swanning through crime scenes with long hair blowing in the breeze and stepping around blood.

Does NO ONE consider forensics?! If that was my scene, you'd have been out on your arse!

Mastercom · 27/07/2025 19:35

Who is female and attractive, and has a wry sense of humour, allowing her to be the only woman that the officer can occasionally surprise himself by talking to normally.

blossombubblesbuttercup · 27/07/2025 19:35

My favourite is the main detective always having a traumatic back story and it affecting their work. EVERY GOD DAMN TIME!🤣🤣

Mondaytuesdayhappydays · 27/07/2025 19:37

The long suffering wife and wearer of cardigans and holder of mugs of tea with both hands (cardigan arms pulled over her hands) that she pulls tightly around herself in silent resignation every time her very important detective husband hets called away for work ( or by his affair partner )

ghostyslovesheets · 27/07/2025 19:37

They always have an understanding parent minding the kids and saying ‘you need to take it easy love the kids need you’ with a head tilt and a saved dinner in the oven

Also at some point they will meet with a grizzled drink soaked retired police officer with secrets and a past that links to the case

Mastercom · 27/07/2025 19:37

He will have at least one day when he is two hours late into work with a hangover and a lot of stubble. This is to show his trauma is nearly getting the best of him. This is the same day that he’ll be asked to do a press conference. He hates press conferences. But he will go and get a clean shirt from his office and get angry at the questions and storm off at the end.

ButtSurgery · 27/07/2025 19:38

Meanwhile, no mention of overtime, 18+hr shifts, 11hr rest periods being blown out the water, Niche RMS, unused material, disclosure, no comment interviews, or jumping at the goddamn police dogs barking in the car every time you pass them in the yard.

Kinneddar · 27/07/2025 19:38

Response cops going everywhere on blues & twos

Cops interviewing/arresting friends, relatives & neighbours

DI's and other senior detectives going out knocking on doors, arresting people, generally leaving the station at all

Detectives basically being on call 24/7 the entire duration of the case

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 27/07/2025 19:57

The top detective is rude as fuck to all his colleagues but is never sent to HR. That ONE woman he sort of tolerates is both his colleague and an unpaid therapist. She never complains and sees it as a badge of honour that he puts up with her

CalzoneOnLegs · 27/07/2025 20:00

Funny thread and all true 🤣🤣

Mastercom · 27/07/2025 20:04

He almost gets back with his wife, but after she comes to visit him from the city he left, it just doesn’t work out again when he’s late back from work after they planned one last ditch special dinner. She pretends to be asleep when he gets back but really they both know it’s over.
