Caught me by surprise the end of the thread!

Well yeah. Whole thing hasn't been covered in glory. And what they all feel to afraid to say is there isn't really box office draws on the womens side. I mean the men don't either really anymore, but Novak amd Carlos are. Need more tennis superstars.

I don't really agree with that- my comment was actually that about the fact the earlier match was always potentially going to be shorter than this one, not that there aren't any 'good' players.

I HATE tie breaks.

Apart from the fact I hate “box office” as a tennis descriptor I don’t agree that the women’s matches were any less exciting than the men’s. The women’s quarter finals were great.

No argument here. But I meant box office as noteable, widely recognised names. To a general, one tournament a year crowd. Nothing to do with how good anyone is.

Many of the earlier matches in the tournament, any tournament, are often better than later.

I'm married to an Italian and they are all so very proud to have so many top ranking players right now. This has been part of a drive by Italy to promote tennis and make it accessible to people who are poor and wouldn't necessarily have the funds to access wealthy tennis clubs. It's certainly worked.

The Italian players have been doing very well over the past few years- it was a something the French Federation tried - lots of public courts , and at one point they had a lot of male players in the top 50- but it didn't get them the big results. It's definitely working for the Italians.

I've just read that sadly Matteo Berrettini has withdrawn from Stuttgart, so I hope the Boss team hasn't already prepared a bike in his colours again

I hope Matteo will be fit to play Wimbledon. Lorenzo too.

The WTA tournament at Queens starts Monday, doesn't it?

kazza it does, they've already had a couple of big name withdrawals- Pegula, Osaka.

I hope that Lorenzo retiring when he did was precutinoary do he didn't risk makingn anything worse for the next bit of the season. He had a good grass season last year - SF at Stuttgart, final at Queen's , SF at Wimbledon. Looks like he's skipping Stuttgart though, not surprisingly.

That’s such a shame for Matteo, it feels like he’s never fully for for Wimbledon, and it’s his favourite slam by far.
