Murder mystery thriller on sat at 9 and e2 follows

3&4 next sat and 5&6 week after

The Last Anniversary:

Plot
The series is set in sunny Australia and the plot is as follows, "Moriarty’s story is set on Scribbly Gum Island, a place of many secrets.

The one that made it famous – the disappearance of a young couple decades ago – might have made the island a destination for true crime tourists, but when it comes to secrets, the three generations of women that call Scribbly Gum home, hold far more.

"When Sophie Honeywell (Teresa Palmer) inherits a house on the island, left to her by her ex-boyfriend’s great-aunt Connie, it’s the fresh start she’s craving

But despite the unwelcome reception she receives on arrival.

Single and approaching 40, Sophie is intrigued by something else Connie left her – a promise that she might finally find the man of her dreams.

" Exciting!
The Last Anniversary: Cast
There is a seriously star-studded cast set to appear on our screens for this new series alongside some fresh talent, and they are as follows:
• Teresa Palmer
• Miranda Richardson
• Danielle Macdonald

•	Helen Thomson
•	Susan Prior
•	Claude Scott-Mitchell
•	Charlie Garber

As expected, this six-part series is full of mystery, family drama and rich people hiding secrets. But it’s also surprisingly nuanced, thanks to its A-game performance

It’s mostly based on the fictitious Scribbly Gum island, a picturesque location situated close to Sydney, where property presumably costs more than the gross GDP of several countries and almost all its tiny population belong to the same family.

Like every family they conceal secrets, but given this is a mystery-thriller – executive produced by Nicole Kidman (https://www.theguardian.com/film/nicolekidman), no less
– those secrets are particularly big and juicy.

Across the show’s six-part arc, various skeletons are pried from the closet by a protagonist whose task is to interrupt the status quo and act as an agent of change.

This is Sophie (Teresa Palmer), a likable journalist in her late 30s who inherits a property not from the bank of mum and dad, but from a rather less common depository: the bank of an ex-boyfriend’s relative who barely knew her.

The reason the now-deceased Connie (Angela Punch McGregor) bequeathed it to her is one of several key mysteries, slowly and tastefully revealed.

Another mystery concerns the disappearance many moons ago of a young couple whose baby was found and raised by Connie and her sister Rose (Miranda Richardson).

The baby grew up to be Enigma (Helen Thomson), who, like the rest of the family, has cashed in on the mystery, using it to attract tourists to the island, where they’re welcomed with a pre-rehearsed spiel.

There’s quite a few characters to keep track of, each vividly written and performed.

Assisting Sophie in her investigations is the initially hostile Veronika (Danielle Macdonald, recently great in The Tourist (https://www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio/2021/dec/30/the-tourist-review-jamie-dornan-is-intense-in-explosively-entertaining-outback-thriller)), whose parents are Ron (Jeremy Lindsay Taylor) and Connie’s daughter Margie (Susan Prior).

Enigma’s daughter is Grace (Claude Scott-Mitchell), who’s married to Callum (Uli Latukefu), and has recently experienced a traumatic birth.

There’s also Sophie’s ex Thomas (Charlie Garber), who’s faffing about on the island, having been kicked out of his home by his wife.

Rose Enigma's mother and the sister who died in the first episode.

it was so far from the book I wouldn’t know where to begin. Everything was different. I enjoyed it as a stand alone series but it wasn’t the book.

My question is, who were the two young girls in the boat who brought the baby to shore in the storm in the pre-credit sequence? Presumably one of them (the one who stayed in the boat?) is the mother?

That was Connie and rose

Thanks. Yes, that's what I kinda thought, but so they lied about finding her in the cot?

purpleme12 · 28/05/2025 01:12

It's a possibility

We'll have to see!

Why did they lie ?

I've not had time to watch this yet , as son was here at the weekend .

However, going by the number of posts in it already {haven't read them , promise!] it must be popular , will be catching up with it today.

EachandEveryone · 28/05/2025 09:12

They lied as it was a sign of the times. She would never been allowed to keep the baby otherwise.

EachandEveryone · 28/05/2025 09:13

I want to know were the police involved as in the book the real story was revealed at the party.

butterpuffed · 28/05/2025 15:48

Just seen the two episodes in iPlayer . Am liking this , but who is related to who was a bit confusing , and that could all change when the mystery is solved !

Glad I haven't read the book going by the comments in here . They seem to always change dramas.

I've been racking my brain as Ian , the lawyer, looked familiar . Had to look him up, he was in Ten Pound Poms !

purpleme12 · 28/05/2025 15:49

Oh yes I thought he looked familiar too but couldn't think!

Connie and rose. Sisters who adopted baby enigma

connie is now dead and left house to Sophie

Sophie is Thomas ex gf who dumped him

Margie who is Thomas and Veronica mum

veronica very uoset she didn’t get her grandmothers house / prob as divorced and lives with her mum and dad

enigma who is mum to Grace who has just had a baby

but has an unfaithful hubby who slept with Sophie in Thailand - what are the odds !!

turns out that egnima parents alice and jack are actually brother and sister (incest ) and missing /dead and Russians who changed their names as siblings shagging so poor egnima knowing her parents one is actually uncle /aunt to her 🤮 as well as mum /dad

If you've read the book, you'll be baffled at the changes to the plot, and changes to/omission of some of the characters. Mind you, if you haven't read the book, you may be baffled by the under-developed flimsiness of some of the characters and by how it all fits together. Huge disappointment: so far all the Lianne Moriarty adaptations have been really a bit rubbish compared to the books.

I read the book. Enjoyed it but the changes annoyed me a bit, still a good watch. I'd love if the husbands secret was adapted

Blondeshavemorefun · 31/05/2025 20:32

Love this. Can’t wait for tonight’s

e3 Sophie looks for love and Grace stuggles with motherhood

OP posts:
NaughtyNellie · 31/05/2025 22:55

Does anyone else think Liane Moriarty’s
earlier books are so much better than her later ones?

Blondeshavemorefun · 31/05/2025 23:03

Havnt read the books but I didn’t enjoy e3

so possibly Alice got raped by her boss in the shop and he might be the dad of egnima

she is a weird horrible mum. Ignoring Grace for a month and then watching herself possibly die over nuts - what mum does that

I needed a wee so paused it and went for one and popped into mini blondes bedroom and gave her hair a stroke and kissed her - she is my world. Can’t imagine ignoring her or knowing she could die but I could save her

anyway egnima is def a little fucked in the head. No sure why as seems rose and Connie saved and brought her up

great Sophie met the gardener and had good sex - be lovely if she is now preg

and who the hell doesn’t mention wife has allergy to nuts - most people if going to dinner take a little pressie /desert

but was good and roll on e4

I’ve read the book but I can’t remember it at all. I’m hoping this is as good as Big Little Lies, which was excellent.

Blondeshavemorefun · 01/06/2025 06:41

I did enjoy e3. Not didn’t

I’ve given up on it already ( flaky I know ) but it’s just so miserable. I only caught a few minutes of episode 3 and thought nah , life’s too short and watched Bruce Springsteen instead !
( I may go back to it though , just wasn’t in the mood for miserable characters and plots)

I recorded all the bruce docs last night , I'm intending on having a full day of him tomorrow

mylovedoesitgood · 01/06/2025 12:31

I’m up to episode five and it still doesn’t have that ‘Looking forward to find out what happens in the next episode’ factor. But I’m a die hard Miranda Richardson fan so I’ll keep going.

moto748e · 01/06/2025 14:23

I've always assumed that Miranda Richardson was a sister of Joely Richardson and Natasha Richardson. Well, duh! She ain't.

deeahgwitch · 03/06/2025 14:45

No “she ain’t” a sister but she’s a great actress.
