I couldn't find a thread on this. Anyone else watching? I'm on episode 3 and really enjoying it but I feel like the trailer maybe gave some things away that you wouldn't have picked up on until a few episodes in.

OP posts:

Was I the only one sad/ eagle-eyed enough to spot the misspelling of 'luxury' on the hotel website we saw?? They have luxry rooms it seems.

GlitchStitch · 19/04/2025 18:40

I enjoyed it for what it was but there were some rather big plot holes. It reminded me of the Harlan Coben shows on Netflix, massive houses and parts of the story that don't translate very well to the UK.

GauntJudy · 20/04/2025 21:50

I found it all very annoying. I don't think the lead captured how frantic a mother would be in this situation, although maybe that was to make us think she was in on it. The police characters felt like typical "rent a detective" durge. The kidnapper was slightly better than the other actors, but again the whole escalating situation she was in was met with acting like she couldn't find tahini in waitrose.

It's surprising how much money gets thrown at mediocre telly.

DizzyPuss · 20/04/2025 23:24

I've just binged watched it all, and although it managed to hold my interest, I was disappointed with it overall.
In one scene the journalist finds a copy of a birth certificate online, unrealistic or what!? It's just staring at her from her PC screen after a short search for all Elisa's in the electoral rolls...
I carried on watching it, but it lost all seriousness from that point on..

burnoutbabe · 20/04/2025 23:34

I binged on Friday and today. It was Harlsn coben ish. And I lived all the false leads! I was swinging around guessing plots all over the place. I actually liked the ending.

How do you smuggle a child out of the UK into France?

may have been more plausible to have it set in Europe

NeilDiamondsBlowDry · 21/04/2025 11:28

As long as it doesn’t have
Jill Halfpenny
Jo Joyner
Joanna Froggat

I might watch it !

Piggywaspushed · 21/04/2025 13:27

You forgot Sheridan Smith!

aylis · 21/04/2025 13:55

It started off so well but just descended into tropey rubbish unfortunately.

She was hidden in a suitcase in a car. They can’t possibly check every car leaving a port.

NeilDiamondsBlowDry · 21/04/2025 14:04

@Piggywaspushed how could I ???🤣🤣🤣

I just finished Good American Family before I started this one yesterday!

You should look for the documentary on Discovery “the curious case of Natalia Grace” there are 3 seasons of it and it’s a wild ride!

The do check pretty thoroughly at the ports when a child is missing. My parents were leaving Fishguard for Ireland when April Jones was missing and their car, along with everyone's was searched. In this show, I think they had Louisa out of the country before she was reported missing. It's why the whole sleepover ruse was necessary as opposed to just kidnapping her from school, or the initial playdate. They needed the 20 hours or so between the mother dropping off her pjs, to the parents realising the house was a holiday let, to get the child into France.

Ha ha ,you and me both 🤣 😂

I quite enjoyed it,it was entertaining.

Cornishclio · 22/04/2025 00:56

I have just binge watched it and glaring plot holes. How did she crash into the car with that force and just drive off in a car which looked like it had no damage.

When Rebecca/Nina went off on these jaunts did she leave the 9 year old girls on their own?

Why on earth would she go back to visit her Dad who SAd her and clearly she wasn’t bothered he was dying.

Her husband just seemed to accept her affair.

I also agree that Ambika Mod is annoying.

nottheplan · 22/04/2025 06:21

I liked it but didn't really understand the ending. I may need to rematch the last 10 mins.

All those plus the police making zero effort to track down the woman who sent the DH aggressive messages. They just gave up!

Candleabra · 22/04/2025 06:46

I’ve only watched the first episode. I’m not sure I’ll bother with the rest. The story was vaguely promising but the whole setting didn’t feel authentic in any way. The dad had a northern accent and they kept saying Cheshire, Manchester etc as the locations but it didn’t feel like the uk at all. Very jarring.

diddl · 22/04/2025 08:28

I've only watched the first ep & was keen to watch the rest to see how it panned out but have been sidetracked by other stuff.

Guess that shoes how not interested I am.

Not like Denise Gough in it at all which doesn't help!

burnoutbabe · 22/04/2025 08:39

I don’t think husband just accepted the affair. He just wanted to keep his family together/stable as much as possible in the end. Who knows how the next 5 years would pan out for everyone.

westisbest1982 · 22/04/2025 08:41

I don’t know if it was because of Denise Gough’s performance or terrible writing, but at no point did I ‘believe’ her character was in shock and in serious distress because her daughter disappeared and later found to be kidnapped.

TessTickle0 · 22/04/2025 08:56

Also I couldn't find her likeable at all.
She let her lover go to jail and then didn't even bother to see him or look at his letters.
Then let her husband think the affair child was his.

However why did she end up going to prison?
Only Rebecca knew about the crash and even she didn't know it was elisa driving till she told her in the finale.
So I guess I missed something? Or did she then decide to confess and fuck her family up.even more 🤔

Oneearringlost · 22/04/2025 09:04

"It's surprising how much money gets thrown at mediocre telly." @GauntJudy Agree!

It's really frustrating me, implausibilty is top of my list for turning off.

Denise Gough and Holliday Grainger are too aware of themselves; though, I guess they do a reasonably good job of being Yummy, MC, wealthy, beautiful, entitled private schooling types.

The journalist woman really irritates me; she was good as Shruti in "This is going to Hurt", but she just didn't work for me in One Day, and nor does she in this, blunted, implausible, characterless acting.

I'm only on the episode about the commune and her dad's death, but nothing is really working or coming together for me, at the moment.

We are watching The Glass Dome on Netflix, atm, Swedish drama about a child who was abducted years ago and kept in, yes, you guessed it, a glass dome!
Enjoying it much more

I think the idea was that she couldn’t take all the lies any longer so confessed about everything eg the paternity of the son, who was driving etc. I’m guessing the guy in jail was released as all he’d done was pervert the course of justice. Plus he’d already served a number of years since the crash.

It was ok, binge worthy but I agree with a pp that surely their car would have been a write off after hitting the stationary car with such force. I usually love Ambika but in this she seemed just a sulky teenager and her boss was terribly miscast.

I haven't seen it yet, but the large house is in Liverpool.
