Anyone else watching this?

I know this has already been on BBC back in 2019, don't know how I missed it! I'm only on episode two and totally gripped, its scarily close to normal life as we are living it now.

The cast are brilliant Emma Thompson, Rory Kinnear Russell Tovey etc, I have quite a few episodes to go but it definitely giving me the feeling that it won't be a happy ending for any of them, or the rest of the world!

Yes I loved this show, and yes it was eerily prophetic!

MagicPharmacist · 16/04/2025 16:03

I’ve been looking for this for years (and years 🤣) for a rewatch and just a minute ago found it and then saw this thread. Spooky.

I saw it when it first aired and it’s one of those I always think back on. It’ll be interesting (maybe terrifying) to watch after 6 years of complete global insanity.

Clickncollect · 16/04/2025 16:13

Yes, I loved it when it was on, absolutely amazing tv!

PattyDukeAstin · 16/04/2025 16:21

Loved Year's and Year's (love Russell Tovey). I can imagine Vivienne Rook isn't quite as shocking as she seemed in 2019 ago - thank you for posting OP I will watch again.

Lovewine1975 · 16/04/2025 16:26

I've been thinking about it all day, all the similarities with todays world its so spooky

I think Liz Truss also wore the same red dress that Vivien Rook wore.

Newyearnewmewoooop · 16/04/2025 22:50

Russel Tovey is amazing in this

orangetulipsinbloom · 16/04/2025 22:56

I saw it years ago but think about it often. It felt strangely and disturbingly prophetic, an eerie vision of future political and social developments that would have seemed absurd not such a long time ago.

MagicPharmacist · 17/04/2025 09:25

Trump still in power because Mike Pence is a puppet president.

US/China trade war that leads to nuclear strikes.

Russia invade Ukraine (and win)

Small boats

Trans humanism

The rise of the right in the U.K. by appealing to the masses.

it’s terrifyingly accurate, and means all these almost but not quite similarities have been easy to predict…it’s almost like we are sleepwalking into this.

It's absolutely brilliant isn't it. So prescient

MonkeyTennis34 · 17/04/2025 11:25

A brilliant series. Wish there were more like it!

turkeyboots · 17/04/2025 11:28

DD and I are watching it, and i watched it first time round. It's alarmingly accurate on some things and Emma Thompson looks like she had a lot of fun with that role!

mamaduckbone · 17/04/2025 21:14

I also missed it first time round and am
completely gripped and slightly terrified. It feels as though more or less everything in it could be true.

Don't forget the pandemic too.

Well, at least you can't get mugged for your phone

RufustheFactuaIReindeer · 19/04/2025 19:07

I watched it once, never again

one of my children is exactly the same as one of the characters, their response to the situation the character found themselves in would be my childs response

i look in the actors face and i see my child, i see my childs fate in the characters fate

which to be fair shows how good that particular actor is and that particular piece of writing 🙂

That fucking phone was fucking stupid…how the hell can you tuck that under your chin leaving your hands free!

Lovewine1975 · 19/04/2025 21:27

I finished it yesterday will stay with me for a long time it’s just so scary that this could happen to the U.K. it’s so realistic!

ApolloandDaphne · 19/04/2025 21:35

I'm watching it right now. It's actually terrifying how prophetic it is.

HiCandles · 19/04/2025 21:42

Saw it on BBC originally. So scarily close to our current reality. Will definitely be rewatching, thanks for mentioning it as I hadn't realised it was on Netflix now.

Awumminnscotland · 19/04/2025 22:28

I saw it first time round and it really resonated with me then. I've just watched it again and realising the predictions that have now actually happened is sobering to say the least.
An underrated series indeed.

GoodNamesOnly · 19/04/2025 23:09

Weirdly I was just thinking of this programme tonight, while watching Black Mirror (season 1, with DC who was too young to watch that at the time). Such a brilliant drama, I have thought of it so many times since watching it in 2019. So oddly prescient, too. Definitely worth a rewatch.

I know right. It would never take off, no money in upgrades then.

Proper freaky program considering it's a few years old now.
