amongst other places it would have taken too long to put in the title.

Good start for Casper.

Raahh · 27/04/2025 21:27

Watching the sky app on my phone, because the TV has been taken over. Connection a bit iffy. Better than nothing I suppose.

Come on Casper!

Good set.

It was abit up and down, and could have gone either way, I suppose, but he got the points where it mattered.

I might just stay awake for the end of this if it doesn't go to 3 sets!

Well done Casper. Seb seemed pretty out of sorts.

They have a power cut which brought everything to a standstill in the men’s but not the women’s Confused

ChessieFL · 28/04/2025 12:26

Just seen something about widespread power cuts across Spain and Portugal. Not sure how it manages to affect men but not women though!

JaneJeffer · 28/04/2025 12:48

Grin Maybe the umpires did the line calls for those two matches. Everything is at a standstill now. Our WiFi went off at the same time which was weird!

JaneJeffer · 28/04/2025 12:55

The restaurant had plenty of candles on hand!

I wonder what happened.

Fizzywinegum · 28/04/2025 13:00

Oh no that’s rubbish - I was just about to watch some tennis

Fizzywinegum · 28/04/2025 13:03

It’s made it onto the BBC news so must be pretty serious - hope they manage to get it sorted out soon Sad

Fizzywinegum · 28/04/2025 13:15

Just seen footage of one lone man trying to direct the traffic in Madrid - don’t envy him!

Raahh · 28/04/2025 14:30

I had to go, so had no idea about the power outage (which I always read as 'outrage')

That's annoying for all concerned.

I wondered why I had turned on to the Men-shik match again.

ChessieFL · 28/04/2025 14:36

I expect I would be a bit outraged by the outage Raahh

It is very apt, Chessie Grin

Such a strange situation!

Raahh · 28/04/2025 15:57

I've just read that play is cancelled for the day. That will take some sorting.

Feli will have a headache.

It doesn’t look as if they’re starting any earlier in Madrid to make up for yesterday - some good matches to come

The tennis got quite a big mention on the news yesterday - some of the players couldn’t have showers after their matches - hope that Harriet Dart and her sensitive nose weren’t too offended! (If she is even there)

Joking aside it must have been pretty scary for everyone in Spain and Portugal - DH thinks we should get some extra supplies in - maybe I’ll hang out on the preppers threads Hmm

IceandIndigo · 29/04/2025 09:51

Hopefully there will be some play in Madrid today. It’s a bizarre situation but I guess not much different to a rain delay, which they will have planned for.

Since there wasn’t any tennis last night I watched some of Carlos’ Netflix show. I found it interesting but also sort of uncomfortable to see the dynamic between him and his team. I’m sure they genuinely care about him but the vibe was a bit like he was a race horse that they had backed, and now they want to get a return on their investment. Meanwhile Carlos wants to go partying in Ibiza like a normal 21 year old.

Fizzywinegum · 29/04/2025 10:01

I’ve watched all of the Carlos documentary episodes now Ice - I thought it was just going to be a fluffy piece about him but some of it was quite dark

I wasn’t too keen on the dynamic between him and his manager and also surprisingly Juan Carlos Ferrero - I agree they seemed to treat Carlos like a commodity rather than a 21 year old - it made me feel a bit uncomfortable but I did find it fascinating as well

Fizzywinegum · 29/04/2025 10:08

The third episode is worth watching to see Rafa getting very competitive over a game of Parcheesi (which looks sort of like ludo) at the olympics

Seeing the Olympic accommodation was also interesting - some messy bedroom and tiny cardboard beds! The rooms were so small that Rafa had to leave all of his equipment on the landing Grin

IceandIndigo · 29/04/2025 10:33

That sounds hilarious about Rafa at the Olympics Fizzy, I’ve only watched the first two episodes so far. It was definitely a bit darker than I expected. All the hopes and ambitions of these grown men (and they are all men) piled on to a young person. It will be interesting to see how Carlos’ career develops and whether he sticks with the same team in the longer term. I can’t imagine that he’s going to be comfortable with that same dynamic when he’s 25. His mum seems really lovely.

Fizzywinegum · 29/04/2025 10:40

Yes his Mum does seem lovely Ice - I also wonder how sustainable working with his current team is
