First thing I do when dh isn't feeling well is check his bloods then his ketones. He's been in dka twice. First time he nearly died. Second time he could speak etc but his ketones just wouldn't come down and he couldn't stop being sick so they sent an ambulance and away he went. Since then however if his ketones are high we just give insulin and check every 20 mins. So we've managed to avoid it again but I know it'll happen again at some point.

I say I check them, he's got a libre so he checks that, if he's normal but still feeling shit he checks his ketones. I've only had to physically do it for him twice when he was unable to. I've also had to go get cola when his levels have just fell out his arse.
